Houston Chronicle Sam Khan reporting: The University Interscholastic League has announced make-up procedures for games if Hurricane Ike happens to affect varsity football and volleyball contests this weekend. For football games impacted by Ike, the UIL is offering an exception to the five-day rule, which mandates that teams must have five days in between varsity football games. The exception would allow as little as four days in between games so that schools could make up missed games. The exception doesn’t apply to sub-varsity or junior high games. For volleyball, district games can be played on Wednesday or Thursday. Traditionally, district matches are played on Tuesdays and Fridays, but the UIL is allowing teams to reschedule Friday games earlier to avoid cancellation. The exception doesn’t apply to non-district, sub-varsity or junior-high matches. If school is out on Friday, any matches would be allowed on Thursday and no exception would be needed. So far this week, three high-school football games have been rescheduled. Nederland and Waller moved their game up one day to Thursday. Memorial and Pearland and Spring and Stratford have moved both their games up one day to Thurdsay and Friday, respectively. The last time a hurricane affected games was when Rita hit in September 2005. All area football games scheduled Sept. 22-24, 2005, were canceled or postponed.

I can't answer for him, but I work on the print side of the media. Anywhere close, and yes. This storm would have to be well south and no error for a north turn for them not to call it. And dealing with a trough, I personally think they will pull the trigger. Rather be safe than sorry. Also, models will show a more southern shift tonight. Let's see if that trend sticks into tomorrow and wednesday because some are thinking it will begin shifting back up the coast. -

Only 1 storm of the last 50 that were very similar in Ike track) have hit Texas. And that was in 1852 (Brownsville). This sucks!!!! Come on Ike, don't make me call Michael Myers!!!! -
It looks as if Galveston County and parts of Harris County could begin special needs evac and voluntary tomorrow (Tuesday) with a mandatory on Wednesday. Southeast Texas will follow the same suit, special needs Wednesday and mandatory Thursday in preparations for a Category 4 hurricane on late Friday/early Saturday. IF evacuations are called please follow: Harris County evac routes (Contra flow): The following freeways will be activated for contra flow if/when a mandatory evacuation is ordered…Galveston County is the lead in the mandatory evacuation in coordination with HGAC. I-45: Begin contra flow at SH 242 N of The Woodlands. US 290: Begin contra flow at SH 6/FM 1960…Note outbound shoulder lane will be used as a traffic lane to provide 3 outbound lanes on the outbound side and 2 outbound lanes on the inbound side. I-10: Begin contra flow at FM 359.

Light heavyweights: Rashad Evans (17-0-1) def. Chuck Liddell (21-6) How: TKO, 1:51 round two Key moment: Evans, after not having landed many strikes, suddenly connected with a punishing overhand right that knocked Liddell out. Analysis: Liddell made the same mistake he made when he lost his light heavyweight belt last year to Quinton “Rampage†Jackson. He went to throw an uppercut and Evans caught him with a booming overhand right. The win will zoom Evans to the top of the division and places him squarely among the UFC’s elite at 205 pounds. Liddell has lost three of his last four and there at least has to be thought if he’s come to the end of the line of a spectacular career.

No football next week without a doubt, unless Ike recurves to NE GOM. Too close. Will have to evacuate again -
All-District WR/DB Cameron Burrell broke his leg last night in the game v. Liberty and is out. 2nd team AD RB/DB Hagan Daigle hurt his shoulder and will be out 3 weeks.

The North Shore Mustangs defeated Aldine Eisenhower 33-14 and with that win tied Southlake Carroll for most consecutive non-district wins without a loss at 72!!!! They play Cy Falls next week to break the record! On the other end, Katy, yes that Katy, lost again tonight blown out by The Woodlands, 47-0, to fall to 0-2, their worst start since 1984. The last time Katy was shutout was in 1991. Katy won the 5A DII title last year.

I retract a few sentiments of my post. Ike looks to be a GOM major player now. -

I'm no where near an expert, just going by what was/is/has been explained to me. Ike does have a chance to get into the gulf but, wouldn't likely go far without heading north, due to several factors: 1) Strong storms will find an easy weakness in a ridge then take off or get taken away by any trough 2) Gulf westerlies (dont ask). If I lived in Florida, or knew someone there, there would be some major cause for concern but don't think Ike hits as a Cat 5. But heck, Cat 1 is enough for me! -
