From Duke website: Roger Hinshaw, a North Carolina native and veteran coach with over 30 years of experience, joined the Duke football staff in 2007 and serves as the program's Assistant Director of Operations. Hinshaw enjoyed a 23-year coaching relationship with Ken Hatfield, working alongside the national coach of the year at Air Force (1983), Arkansas (1984-89), Clemson (1990-93) and Rice (1994-05). Over those 23 seasons, Hatfield and Hinshaw helped the four respective programs to a combined record of 138-101-3 with 10 bowl game appearances and four conference championships. Hinshaw spent the 2006 season as the defensive coordinator at Angleton (Texas) High School. A native of Burlington, N.C., and 1972 graduate of Appalachian State University, Hinshaw started his coaching career at Watauga High School in Boone, N.C., serving two years as an assistant coach. After one year (1974) as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, he served stints at Newton County (Ga.) High School (1975-76) and Newnan (Ga.) High School (1977-78). Hinshaw then worked four campaigns at West Alabama before joining Hatfield in Colorado Springs at the Air Force Academy. Hinshaw coached in 10 bowl games -- Independence (1983), Liberty (1984), Holiday (1985), Orange (1987), Liberty (1987), Cotton (1989), Cotton (1990), Hall of Fame (1991), Citrus (1992) and Peach (1993). In addition, Hinshaw was a part of 10-win campaigns at three schools -- Air Force (1983), Arkansas (1985, 1988 and 1989) and Clemson (1990) -- as well as conference championship squads at Arkansas (1988 and 1989), Clemson (1991) and Rice (1994). Born March 3, 1950, Hinshaw and his wife, Lynn, have three daughters, Beth, Lindsey, Jamie and one son-in-law, Ryan. Beth was a four-time WAC champion who earned All-America honors in the pole vault at Rice before graduating in 2004. Lindsey lettered three seasons on the golf team at Arkansas before graduating in 2006 while Jamie, a senior at Texas A&M, has earned three All-Big 12 citations as a member of the Aggie softball squad.

With 'mandatory evac' still in place and to be lifted Tuesday, don't expect to get changes until tomorrow and wednesday at the latest. School is out for just about everywhere until Wed. I am exhausted but am working on a list. Per Orange County schools, I spoke with Jeff Mathews (Vidor) and he said he is doing any and everything to play St. Thomas. Buna and Orangefield will likely be played Saturday and I am confident that LC-M and WO-S will not play on Friday.

* HURRICANE GUSTAV MAKES LANDFALL*
HoopInsider_Cooper replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Fay and Gustav were very tricky to forecast...NHC was pretty darn good with this one 3+ out. Hope we have no more close calls! No one deserves it. For all media updates refer to KFDM.com -
Mandatory evacuations will be lifted tonight or earlier Tuesday morning, according to the local emergency officials. Roads are open, so you can return if you would like, but nearly all businesses, including most gas stations are still closed. There are a few open, like the HEB on Dowlen Road in Beaumont and some Waffle Houses and a few gas stations. Do expect tropical storm conditions (IE: heavy down pours and wind gusts) Monday evening into Tuesday and electricity could go out. ***Remember, we may have dodged this bullet, but September is the prime months and the tropics are hopping.

(7:05PM Sunday) FROM THE KFDM WEATHER CENTER, New Data Indicates Gustav Expected to Make Landfall Well East of Golden Triangle. KFDM Chief Meteorlogist Greg Bostwick says based on the most recent data, Hurricane Gustav is back on track after a brief wobble to the west earlier Sunday. The center of Gustav is now located near 26.9 north and 87.7 west. Highest winds are 115 miles per hour. The motion is to the northwest at about 17 miles per hour. "I am very confident now of a landfall well to our east, in an area just southwest of Houma, Louisiana, between about 9 a.m. and noon Monday, with winds of 120-125 miles per hour," said Greg. "With landfall expected to be well to our east, winds locally likely won't exceed 40 miles per hour Monday night into Tuesday morning. That will be mainly near Sabine Lake and along the Sabine River. Rainfall totals shouldn't be very heavy, with amounts likely to remain less than two inches between Monday and Tuesday." We'll continue monitoring Gustav for any changes that might occur before landfall. Stay with KFDM News and Weather for the latest on Hurricane Gustav.

* HURRICANE GUSTAV MAKES LANDFALL*

Here is the good latest discussion from nhc THE INITIAL MOTION IS WOBBLING BETWEEN 315 AND 320 DEGREES AT 15-16 KT...WITH 320/16 BEING THE ADVISORY MOTION. THERE IS NO CHANGE IN THE TRACK FORECAST PHILOSOPHY...WITH A MID-LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE EASTERN UNITED STATES EXPECTED TO STEER GUSTAV NORTHWESTWARD INTO THE NORTHERN GULF COAST. THE NEW GUIDANCE RUNS...MOST NOTABLY THE HWRF...SHOW A SLIGHT LEFT TURN AFTER 12 HR WITH A LEFTWARD SHIFT IN THE LANDFALL POINT ON THE LOUISIANA COAST. THE NEW FORECAST TRACK IS SHIFTED SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT OF THE PREVIOUS TRACK...AND SINCE IT LIES NEAR THE EASTERN EDGE OF THE GUIDANCE ENVELOPE SOME ADDITIONAL SMALL SHIFTS MAY BE NECESSARY LATER. AFTER 48-72 HR...THERE REMAINS MAJOR DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN THE DYNAMICAL MODELS ON WHETHER GUSTAV WILL RECURVE INTO THE WESTERLIES...SHEAR APART AND STALL OVER LOUISIANA OR TEXAS...OR TURN SOUTHWESTWARD. THE FORECAST TRACK AFTER 72 HR FOLLOWS THE SHEAR-APART-AND-STALL SCENARIO...CALLING FOR GUSTAV TO MOVE SLOWLY WESTWARD AS IT WEAKENS OVER LAND. -

From Eric Berger, Scientific nut @ Hou Chronicle Odds increasing that New Orleans will be spared the worst The big question with Hurricane Gustav is whether the storm will make landfall close enough to New Orleans to bring about catastrophic flooding in that city. Today I feel more optimistic that the city will be spared Gustav's worst effects. Let's discuss why. As of 1 p.m. today, the storm's maximum sustained winds had dropped to 115 mph, which indicates it hasn't yet begun to significantly re-intensify. And now some of the models, such as the newest HWRF, only bring a Category 2 hurricane to the Louisiana coast. The official forecast still predicts a major hurricane at landfall, but Gustav is running out of time to build a massive storm surge (by becoming a strong Category 4 hurricane) before coming ashore sometime tomorrow. And we haven't even considered the possibility that wind shear will inhibit strengthening. Couple this with a passel of the most recent model runs that show a slightly westward trend and the chances of Category 3 hurricane winds blowing water into Lake Pontchartrain have fallen. I suspect the hurricane center's 4 p.m. update of the official track will show a modest westward shift. For those in Beaumont and Port Arthur, I still don't think the storm will come in far enough west to bring hurricane-force winds to your area, but it remains a possibility on the order of 10-20 percent. Tropical systems are simply unpredictable and all it would take is a slight wobble. You'll need to keep a close eye on Gustav. The chances of anything more than tropical depression-force winds in the Houston area remains less than one-in-three. -

We need Gustav to keep flying....Greg said an expected WNW movement and we hope its after landfall. Before, would mean worse scenario for SETX...That high is building for the north. Lazeek, the answer is no. Unless they lift the mandatory evac, you must possess a hologram sticker to return before evac orders are lifted...Just guessing, that's if we just get rain, etc...Plans would be lifted Tues/Wed. Do expect plenty of rain and TS winds so power is likely to go out. The next big advisory is 4pm...the 1pm is intermediate. -
