In all the years you have watched Vidor fans or not who, IYO, was the top 3 running backs. Mine would be: Brad Croak Theron Rynols (sp) and Brentyn Clark
These are three good RBs from the last 10 yrs but we have had a lot of strong running backs in the history of Pirate football... Rick Culbert was awesome and I heard Hagler was a beast.
Well in all honesty i wasn't a follower of the pirates in those days. And Culbert was a QB. Obainion was the RB that year. And i didn't even know dr tim hagler was a RB at vidor. Shows just much how i know.  8)
Culbert played  RB/ WR/ and a little QB his SR yr...Andy Haequist (check spelling) got the majority of the snaps at QB...However Culbert led the team in Passing yds/ Rushing yds/ Receiving yds his Sr year and was Offensive MVP of the district.... He also played a heck of a DB on the other side of the ball.  His Jr. Year his was primarily RB with Browning playing QB
Oh. Well i only started following the Pirates closely his senior year.

Undersized, under rated, lion hearted. Lead the district in rushing and second in team offense. Three rounds deep in the playoffs!! Dumb question.
Everything that you stated about vidors line could be said about Kelly's to. Not saying vidor didn't have a better line than Kelly I'm just saying it seems like both teams offensive lines were very alike. Under rated, undersized, and fought till the end every play. Both teams also had a potent rushing attack it seemed like anyone with decent speed could have gone in the Kelly backfield and picked up significant yards.
Here's a stat i bet you can't say about the Kelly line. In every single one of Vidor's game the offensive line was out matches by atleast 50 pounds per player and 2 games we were outmatched 100 pounds per player. That means each player had atleast 50 or 100 pounds less than the guy in front of them and yet they were still dominating. Here
could not find rosters with weight listed. but i can GUARANTEE  you through eye observation Kelly was outweighed by just as much if not more.
No offense man but i doubt that you can guarantee that because looks can be deceiving.
"Crosby held Vidor to 0 completions". That's pretty funny statement considering Vidor only attempted 2 passes the whole game!!! Vidor pounded Crosby for over 300 yards rushing. Like I said, Crosby was the more talented team, but Vidor was better coached and the better team. 42-20 pretty much speaks for itself.
"Pounded"???  Vidor only had 302 total yards of Offense. Crosby had 412.  The game came down to turnovers (2), Penalties (11 for 100 yards) and the type of D. Crosby's D did not match up very well vs Vidor's O (Wing T vs 3-3 stack). the match up would say your going to get 3-4 yards a carry, and in playoffs it all about match ups. Vidor did a great job... Grinding the ball down the field, keeping the Coog D on the field, controling the ball, and making the O make desperate decisions.. My hats are still off to Vidor but saying they were more talented at almost ANY position is crazy.
Actually what it came down to was your offense couldn't handle pressure and score when they needed to and other spoiled players committing 2 personal fouls in a row because he knew they were gonna lose. Oh and we were the better team. Talented or not. But that's just my opinion.

BTW, not sure how the lower levels are in Crosby but I did get to see the varsity first hand last season as I broadcast their playoff game against Vidor. Varsity had great size and speed (Crosby's receiving corp was unbelievably big and athletic, all of them '6"3 or bigger) but just couldn't understand why they chose to line up in a 3-3-5 defense against Vidor's slot T offense. Vidor just ran through them with no problems, particularly the right side. The more talented team (Crosby) definitely got beat by the harder working team (Vidor).
Yeah they were really good AAW.  ::) Just a few stats from the game Aston - qb - 9-20 for 137 yards the most yards they got was from rushing. They had one receiver that was 6'2 and that was all intimidation seeing as how he had 1 catch for 8 yards and he was being guarded by a 5'7 junior. The leading receiver was 6'0 and he had the bulk of the receiving yards with 79. But i wouldn't call them the more talented team. IMO a real "talented" receiving core was Montgomery's. And i don't see them as the most talented team. They just simply got out coached and out played. IMO the most talented person out on crosby was the two twins and that was all they had. And they weren't as talented as Quirante and Clark
Really?  You're really going to go there?
Yes i'm really going to go there. Did either one of the Walter twins get state honorable mention like Quirante did? Or make every single all star team like Clark did?
I'm pretty sure they will make alot of ALLSTAR teams when they become Seniors. Did pretty well as Sophomores.
You can say that now but they didn't do it this year. And Quirante is a junior.  8) Oh and did i mention he started on defense and it was his first year playing QB and yet he still had 367 yards passing and 1033 yards rushing.

There is a school board that had its role in creating quite a bit of that as well. And I know that Dr. Thomas' tenure will be scarred by a number of controversies (Calvin Walker, transportation department issues, hotelgate, etc).  But as he retires, I don't know that you can say that the Beaumont ISD is in dire shape.  Academically, the district has reached the status as high as exemplary and in fact this past school did enough to do that but for the unacceptable status of a single middle school.  Financially, despite the numerous scandels in which BISD was apparently overcharged, BISD budgetary wise is still in a lot better shape than many of its neighboring school districts. And finally, in the area of athletics while some of the hoped for goals have not been reached, the athletic department is anything but a disaster.  The teams regularly reach the playoffs and in some cases have progressed far.  It has ushered in a new stadium that is in demand for use not only for BISD district games, but playoff games as well and, in fact, was a coin flip away from being host to a regional final game this past season.  Further, that stadium is used by a neighboring district as part of its season opening soccer tournament.  In a time where some districts have been the target of TEA receiverships, layoffs, unacceptable status and being unable to guide through bond issues to upgrade facilities, there are some of us that are quite envious of the state BISD is in now.
What a great post! And no one from Vidor has room to say anything about BISD with the shape their district is in.
Forced retirements, lay offs, unrenewed contracts, and TEA coming in to reorganize Vidor's budget so they could actually operate financially. Maybe VISD should have asked Dr. Thomas to donate his raise to their budget. Lmbo  :D  What is that saying about people who live in glass houses that throw stones?
Correct me if I'm wrong but's my understanding that Vidor requested the services of TASB consultants as a proactive effort. That's different than TEA "coming in".
It's not worth arguing over mat. He's just an old man with a grudge against Vidor. He won't listen to reason.
