Yes, you can win if the talent is there, but you can achieve unbelievable things when everyone is on the same page. If the talent is average or nearly equal to the opponent, coaching can be the difference. A players belief in his coach(es) derives from his communication skills, practice and game organization, evaluation and adaption to player skill sets, his self-discipline and his abillity to hold everyone associated with the program equally accountable for TEAM success. A coach who operates with his ego will abandon the one thing he needs most, his players.
let me interject same thought but written differently: Coaches must 'connect' with their players before they can lead them. You gotta have the respect from your players. You can have all the talent in the world...................................
It appears that the competition level and school participation has fallen off drastically. Very sparse crowds and teams at Silsbee this year and for the teams that did show up they were less than impressive. Wondering if this "splintering" of schools to hold their own league as well as the 7 on 7 eventually make summer ball unproductive....
Kids are involved in other things and makes it hard to attend.

The rest was ay 7 on 7 and at AAU tournaments. Memorial program is getting better everyday. The kids are really working hard to get better.
8)
Yep, been watching Dorian Chapman all summer. He's getting stronger and playing against some of the best players in the country. PA Memorial will be tough.
Just wondering how the responce to this queation will turn out? I know that talented teams such as Bmt Ozen & Central have coaches that are ridiculed from time to time on there coaching strategies or abilities! In my personal opinion, I believe that if a player buys into a coaches :o program, works hard and believes in them, a player will burst through walls trying to satisfy there coach! Maybe this is how some less talented teams reach great heights when not expected! JMO what is yours?
I have a question. Lets suppose I have my five starters for next year. The following players all SUPPOSELY have something in common, THEIR SLOW!!! PG: Tyreke Evans SG: Wally Szczerbiak SF: Paul Pierce PF: Glen Davis C: Yao Ming My program historically is fast break and pressure full court defense. Should I fit my program to fit my players or should I get my players to buy into my system?

Now that I think about it, how creepy is it for a 'mom and pop's reporter to be following teenage kids around like a 'groupy' and snap secret photos? Those kids are minors. I wonder if those kid's parents consented to that to 'Mr. Creepy photo guy'?
Wow!!!!! drag another school into this, thats how threads get off track. If, and i said IF these schools are guilty of cheating they will have to suffer the consequences...period. No pointing the finger at someone else, man up and be accountable.. I'm a little leery trying to support HJ in this manner but I sometimes feel my older brother (from another momma) need some joy in his life. Therefore, I am hoping that all HJ supporters will watch this and the HJ team. Its probably best to watch after a nice cross-country run. It is probably the only *hope* you have of getting past Jack Yates in the playoffs. Ya gotta change your mind-set. [Hidden Content]

Thanks Pumper, glad to hear the positive support. Yep, Ozen has the track and possibly football in the making. On a sidenote, saw Nakia from Ozen in her UT workout. Looked strange for a minute seeing her in burnt orange. Time is passing fast for these kids. Flavor the moment and enjoy the experience. ;)
Shorter drive to Baton Rouge than to College Station or Austin. Johnny Jones played on a final 4 team at LSU in '81 and asst coached on another final 4 team there in '86. He has brought some energy back into the program and people are starting to get excited about basketball again. They have a great legacy, but frankly have been pretty bad in recent years. Recruiting will fix that, and so far it looks like Jones may be the guy to get them back on the right track again. And he's from just down the road in Deridder.
yep!

Practice facilities, locker rooms, etc are pretty new; just wonder how they compare. Jones seems to be rebuilding quickly over there...
Very approachable coach. It seems like the people are behind him. When we got there, he had a camp going on and I saw him coaching these little kids. Nice facilities and they are still in the upgrade mode. Athletic Academic Support Center, one of the best I've seen so far.
Some sort of magical powers that HJ seems to concoct every season to win in their district.
Seriously? Da Dove disapproves of cross country training for basketball players as not being sufficiently sport specific. Different things work for different people/different teams. Take a look at LeBrons physique- The great majority of what you see is attributable to yoga. On the other hand, I would suspect that Larry Bird, Oliver Miller, Boris Diaw and Big Baby Davis( to name a few) had much of a training regimen and still managed to do well in the NBA.
Please stop comparing HJ to the NBA. Thanks!! ;)
NO comparison of HJ to NBA. The obvious point is there are many different ways to skin a cat.
