So it was 42 years ago to be exact. ;) Cy-Fair broke Houston Wheatley's streak of 3 straight titles by beating Wheatley in championship game 70-58. Wheatley had a pretty good run in that time. Won state titles in '68, '69, '70, finalist '71, semifinalist '72, champion '73.
I didn't literally mean 70 years ago......Delmar Stadium Dec. 1971 to be exact.

The stronger teams battle each other and by the time one reaches the finals, they are too beaten up and tired to beat [s][s]HJ[/s][/s] errr.. their opponent from the weaker pool schedule.  ;D
I don't believe that 16-18 year old kids have much problem with being beaten up and tired playing 3 or 4 games over a three day period.
You just admitted it. HJ plays at least 3 games, then the championship  ::)
Or me playing you in racquetball  ;)
 13. Is this a track meet or basketball tournament?

 15. I'm only talking about high school in S.E.Texas, Nash. Majority of Kids need to be in gym working on their skills.
 16. I was going to say a college team is only as good as it's assistants who are recruiting. But LU Sportsfan hit on it as well.
No, it applies to SOME individuals  >:(  Now go take your nap  ;D
No, it applies at the NBA level, at college level, at high school, at junior high, and at Little Dribblers. ( The aforementioned players likely participated in each of those levels)  Dont need a nap.  I jogged 4 miles this morning before I got to work and that keeps me going.( The only reason I mentioned the 4 miles is because I know all of that jogging and cross country type stuff drives you nuts)
Running/jogging is fine for us (us  ??? ), for you. Kids can play whole court games everyday and stay in basketball shape during off season.

If a home schooler does all his work by mid day and then he starts his practice whats wrong with that. There is alot of wasted time in the public school system.  the time between classes and the time that it takes for a teacher check roll, deal with any discipline that takes place in the classroom, etc also their is no such thing as absent in home school
Exactly, a lot of wasted time in public schools.
 21. I personally know kids who are home-schooled (homies) and attend classes on a college campus, responsible enough to do their work at home, and meet with other homies in a class setting. Some kids are through with their work by midday, go to the gym and workout for the next 4 hours. Seems to me, those public school kids are actually putting in less work in comparison to some homies  ;)
Please do not mention Larry Bird to me. In fact, lets keep John Havlicek, Bob Cousy, & Ainge out of the conversation. Thank you!!
Obviously a racist comment.
Nash, there is no such thing as racism anymore. I was referring to the fact that they are all former Celtics.  ;D
 24.
Here is some interesting info from a coach with whom I am pretty close: 1)  There will never be a shot clock in Texas high school basketball.  Schools can hardly find someone to keep the real clock, much less someone to restart a clock every time the ball touches the rim….and thats before you get to the cost of installing them. 2)  As for offense v. defense I can tell you this from experience.  I think "Defense wins championships" is an overrated quote.  In my first year as a head coach I couldn't wait to get in there and get our pressure defense put in.  We spent so much time learning to trap, rotate, sprint, etc.  And guess what….we were pretty dang good defensively.  We were not giving up many points at all….we got to district and started out 0-2 and it was because we couldn't score.  From that point on we spent the athletic period every day doing individual shooting drills.  Each player was getting up 300-400 shots in competitive game type situations.  We ended up winning the district and advancing two rounds in the playoffs.  We started winning because we could score.  I'm not saying defense isn't important but, defense can be successful with great effort.  Offense cannot be great without skill and execution both of which take longer to develop.  Any coach will tell you that their defense comes along faster than their offense.  Being able to defend is great but, you dang sure better be able to put the ball in the bucket.  Here's my take on "Defense Wins Championships"……I've never seen a championship game end 2-0.  You gotta be able to score in this game.
#2 Amen!!!!  Texas is always last in changes, but will eventually come around and catch up. I'm sure at one time there were coaches saying that Texas would never allow their kids to play organized basketball beyond  the summer months.  ;)
And some cant get over losing to "unfairly assembled" teams
Thats when good coaching comes into play, would you agree?
Good coaches cant play the game and cant substitute African 7 footers
Anyway, I saw a 6'0" foot kid take the ball away from a 6'9" American kid last night. Maybe on the defensive side [s]your[/s] some players need to get quicker on defense and less time running off-season marathons.  ;)
NOt sure about that Dove- our kids fair pretty well when they are on a level playing field.
Play defense to get you on a level field. Be thankful you're not playing with a shot clock, yet!!
