Just when you think Nederland is about to go under for the final count, the rumors start to swirl about new player (s) coming to resuscitate their dying program and probably give Central a "run for their money" next season. ;D

Lots of integrity there.
Are you guys getting this information from a Fox News affiliate in Dallas? I'm really holding off from calling Tim Singleton to see if he will come on here and respond. Sheez!!

But back on subject, I think you raise a very valid point. Those guys are probably the ones who enjoyed the fruits of freedom using the summer camps to expand their knowledge of the game and start the trend that Texas players could play another game other than football. -
Pretty sure Lance Blanks went to McCullough. Don't think the school exists any more, does it? I think it is now Woodlands HS. I have a vague memory that Blanks dad played some pro football. Not that it's relevant, but just popped into my head. Lance drove a white corvette with the license plate "UDUNK1" or something like that. Cocky dude, but he could play. Had a heck of a college run under Penders at UT.
Yep, I knew it wasn't an inner city school. His dad , Sid Blanks at one time played with the Houston OIlers. I was about 3 months old and I went to see his dad in an AFL all star game at old Jeppensen Stadium. For some reason I want to say it was the very first AFL all star game. But just too young to remember. ;D -
Lance Blanks - UT, then Detroit Pistons for a while Sean Gay - Texas Tech, then "cup of coffee" with the Spurs Gerry McGee - UH (at the end of the Guy Lewis days) Tracy White - D-1 for sure, but don't rememer which Tiko Crawford - pretty sure HBU, bach when they were D-1 Tony Gatlin - TSU Steve Smith - UH Ivan Jones - Baylor Wendall Nibbs - Juco (only because of grades) Andy Gilchrist - Rice Pat Crocklin - Central Florida There were 8 guys from that Houston Madison team in that summer league and all got scholarships of some kind, including Gay, McGee, Gatlin, Jones, Nibbs, Crocklin, etc. That team went 40-0, won state, and the closest margin of the year was 11 pts. Best HS team I've ever seen and had nobody over 6'5".
I remember Lance attended one of those fine "burb" schools in Houston. I don't think it was Memorial but a school close that level -

They both in some circles are accused of stretching the rules
You forgot: both teams have 4 kids who will likely play at the next level.
Thank you Nash!! ;D
Do you think everything that Lazeek posted ( and I have verified this information) is also "coincidental?
I can honestly say King McClure, Jr. does not need to win a State title to get attention or go to the next level. He's one of the top guards in his class already and is being highly recruited by major D1's. Again, most of those guys from AAA DO NOT play for the same team during the summer.
A 14U AAU team does not qualify as a junior high school team. It does not mean they attended Triple A Academy academically. They couldn't have because Triple A does not have a junior high school. Freshmen in high school are 14 years old. Therefore, they can play on the 14U AAU Team. Again, Triple A was not a school until last year. How could any of their roster been in junior high when they didn't even have a school two years ago. The difference is Triple A is not an academic institution. They are putting kids on computer generated curriculum's for a few hours a day and then hitting the gym. There is nothing wrong with that BUT, they should not be allowed to compete for the same championships as schools who: 1) cannot control their enrollment 2) cannot select their enrollment 3) must adhere to strict guidelines set forth by TEA regarding hours per day in the classroom 4) strict guidelines per TEA regarding instruction and how it is given
hMMM? Most kids I know in 8th grade are playing 14u and 9th graders are 15u. AAA school starts about from 8a.m. and classes end @ 4p.m. It is an academic institution. But , maybe their athletes have a half-day schedule like the kids in those student work programs.

Oh wait, that's just ONE of the teams!! ::)
Come one Abe, that is PURELY coincidental.
You're right. I 'm sure most 1A schools have MULTIPLE players who will play at the next level, right? What are the statistics: About 3.1% of HS Bball student-athletes play at the next level? Does that sound about right? Yet a school in the smallest classification in Texas (1A) has approx 35-40% of their team who will likely play at the next level? Interesting.... Over the last 10 years, I wonder how many (TOTAL) 1A kids from SETX played at the collegiate level?
First of all, no one knows what kid from AAA will play at the next level other than Singelton and McClure. I have never said AAA isn't a basketball factory. Sure they focus on preparing their student-athletes for the next level, just like a lot of other public schools. Don't think Mumford athletes haven't a desire to play pro baseball or basketball. AAA is just a high profile school and its easy to pick on schools like this. Schools like Mumford can sit back in their rural areas and build nice athletic facilities, receive transfer students, & reach Austin with little fanfare. I'm not knocking Mumford, but again, I just don't see any major differences in the two programs.
