Silsbee may have had the best talent overall in SETX over the last 35 years next to PA Lincoln. Silsbee has never been able to get over the hump to win state. I have seen Silsbee teams that have had 3 Allstate players at one time come up short. If these two have the talent to make their teammates better amd keep those grades up, who knows. I wish them the best of luck and ill be sure to catch a game or two. If they can win state is a very tough question to answer since I have nothing to compare to yet.
SECOND behind PA Lincoln??? NO sir, they are not...You ever hear of a Beaumont ISD school called Hebert? The one that actually won a state title or two? They had more talent than Silsbee...So has Central over that time span and Westbrook too...Talent is Silsbee? Absolutely, yes...MORE than the BISD schools...NO WAY.
Perhaps it would be interesting to see how Silsbee has fared in recent years against all of these superior talented Beaumont schools. I'll bet you might be surprised.
Huh? And this coming from a guy who uses the 1960's Celtic teams as the measuring bar for today's teams. ;D

We would probably have less than 100 kids in our whole school (PK3-12) if not for transfers from surrounding communities. That is the truth. It has pretty much always been that way but it has increased some since the addition of the high school in th early 2000's.
Thanks coach!! ;)
Dove- Just so you cant get away with what you are trying to get away with, those transfers come to the school at an early age, well ahead of the time when one has any idea if the young man will be a basketball player or not. Hence, they develop their own rather than acquiring them after it is well known that they AAU stars or d-1 prospects. I am a little shocked that you would try to suggest there is anything analogous in the slightest to what Triple A, Yates and Madison do as compared to Mumford.
Let me make a point here. I'm in no way disagreeing with Mumford's program!!!!!

Concerning the Booing...Our players and coaches did not Boo--we clapped. Its not those kids fault. They were very good. I wish no one had booed them. We certainly did not ask anyone to boo. That was one heck of a basketball team...we all can agree on that,
90% of your students are transfers???

Best Single Game Perfomance You Witnessed
Back in '73 I saw this guard for Houston Sterling, named Kenny (I forgot his last name) go up against Wheatley in the playoffs. The game was at Hofeinz Pavilion. Legendary Wheatley Coach Jackie Carr considered that '73 Wheatley team his best ever. They were like 43-1 that year. Nobody gave Sterling a chance. Everyone at the game was there to see this great Wheatley team. Kenny had some mad handles. He consistently broke the famous Wheatley press. Dude was dribbling behind his back, between his legs, etc.. Then he would come down, shoot a 15 footer with all kinds of hands in his face. He would double clutch the shot and kiss it off the glass. He did this several times. He scored almost 40 pts. Wheatley could not stop him. When he wasn't scoring Kenny kept setting up his big man for easy lay ups under the rim. His big man was this big 6'5" Italian guy named Lee Canalito. Canalito is somewhat famous. He's a big time trainer in Houston. If you don't believe me, look him up. I think Canalito had something like 20 pts and 15 rebounds in that game. Canalito went on the act in some Sly Stallone movies. He was also an undefeated heavyweight boxer, 21-0. Kenny the guard got a basketball scholarship to Sam Houston State. Sadly he was shot and killed while allegedly breaking into someone's home in Huntsville, Tx. They had a big write up about it in the Houston papers. Just the same, that was the greatest single game performance I've ever seen in high school basketball.
I remember Leo. I think he went to UOFH on fb scholly. I kinda remember the kid (Kenny) for some reason and that incident. -
