Let's keep the talk to Silsbee/Houston Yates and leave the personal stuff out.
Mike this is really good, we need something like this in the city for real. What do you think that Brian English would have done with THAT bunch at Central?
That's a hard question. That's a lot of talent to coach! ;D Don't know if Coach E would implement his style of play/coaching or play a more up tempo style. His record shows that he can do more with less, and suggests that Central would still be playing if he were their coach. I didn't see the game (obviously), so it's hard to say what would have happened in THAT game. He may have done a better job at adjusting (during the game) to the matchup against a team like Georgetown. Sometimes though, the coach can put his players in the right position, but kids gotta execute that plan. What do you think?
I think you hit the nail on the head! In the playoffs its ALL about coaching adjustments and match ups...I know what Coach E can do adjustment wise, and I also know what the Central coach lacks in that area...NOT that Coach Lee is just that terrible, but Coach English is just that much better. I do understand that this Central team is a very young group, but with that you also must implement another coaching dynamic, and thats taking advantage of the "too young to know any better" factor, and allow them to play loose as well... English HAS done more with less, and I feel that with more he would DO more! ;)
DV this is an interesting comment. Did you know your dad started 4-5 freshmen on varsity during one of his coaching gigs? He allowed those freshmen the latitude to screw up but learn from their mistakes, and probably the best contribution he made was to allow those freshmen to play to their strengths. His system matched the players he had, not the system trying to mold the players.
I actually learned that from HIM! He always said that he would always custom build the system to fit the kids and not the other way around..You HAVE to let young teams find their way..I think Central will be very good in due time...They may have been one of the most talented teams in the region this year, but lost early. However wih the right guy at the helm (not that Lee was the "wrong" guy) this team could have done a bit more...I happen to know a coach that took a team that started 3 sophs, and played 6 other sophs, to the state championship game... ::) ::)...Remember that, Dove? ;)
;)

Yates has a foreign exchange program too?
When you have a program with that type of exposure schools like JY are approached. Its a good program. Been good for years.
I will be here!! Most Silsbee fans are realist, we know that it is a uphill climb to beat Yates, but the arrogance by a few JY worshiping people on here (DV, BD) has gotten some Silsbee fans dander up ;) Silsbee respects Yates, but they do not fear Yates.
LOL! Let me go on record by saying that Silsbee is not scared of Yates!!! Those boys fear no team. But, that may be another downside. Yates will feed off of it like a sleeping giant. -

We battled Port Arthur Lincoln and Baycity every year when we were 4aaaa. we consistently ranked in the top ten and made it to Austin several times along with going to regionals so many times can't count. Port Arthur Lincoln had talent like Yates every year.
True that Lincoln and Sislbee didn't have move-ins back then, but neither did the competition from Houston. 20 years ago, teams simply suited up the kids who lived in their districts (the way it was intended to be)! All recruiting was left up to colleges ONLY!!
LOL!!!! Not true Abe!!!! Kids been changing addresses for YEARS in the cities. It wasn't a big deal back then and very easy to do. Yall were babies back then and weren't old enough to read the papers ;) Hmmm! Actually, in small towns too. Football back in 30's was full of "transfers" in those small towns. -
Mark this down, Silsbee can beat yates! There's no doubt about it. Silsbee can match yates speed and has more depth. yates has tried to intimidate and scare Silsbee, don't think it worked. I don't think yates has any respect for Silsbee eather. That will be their mistake. yates heighth is one thing Silsbee can't match. How will yates handle Silsbee's speed and depth. Go over the top of them with their heighth? How will Silsbee handle yates's heighth. Use their speed and depth? It will be a tall hill for Silsbee to climb, but a hill Silsbee has climbed before. Go Tigers!!!
Yall barely beat Kashmere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::) -

Big ups to Jakobi and Ducc for their senior leadership last night. Jakobi has impressed me the last 2 games finally being who the coaches have asked him to be. Great job Panthers!
Man, I must not have read this thread. I guess I've been keeping up with other teams. Anyway, I was mentioning this just today how Kobi is stepping up big time with his senior leadership. Ozen starts 3 sophomores and 2 seniors. To see the guys huddle up and talk between plays is very refreshing. Its the little things that creates the special magic. -

They were all at Lamar Fleming when I was there. My cousins kept me up to date on them when I went back to Silsbee.
Actually, Coach Brazos, Stewart, & Yates were at E.O.Smith first, the feeder school for Wheatley. Danny attended Smith maybe one year and went to Fleming Junior.
I don't know if you knew this, but Coach Brazos was the SOLE REASON my father left Madison to go to Kashmere to coach. You know he was like a father to my dad...He told him about his pancreatic cancer, and asked that he come back to the north side and get that program where it needed to be, because it was in "bad shape"...My father never told anyone outside of family why he went there...Coach Brazos passed in September of 1999, and Stewart died last year...
Man, we could start a whole new thread on these people. Last time I saw Stewart :'( was in high school. I'll never forget after he became a counselor, he showed me a wad of money. He said "son, just stay in school." I stayed in school but still ain't had the money he had. ;) And Frankie B, :'( the man was like a God among basketball coaches.
Hey man, when Coach Brazos was still coaching at Kashmere, my sophmore season, we were playing against them in a tournament in Fort Worth, and I had hit four threes by halftime and had 16 points, but I don't think I took a shot after about the 3:00 minute mark in the 2nd qtr....This man CAME IN OUR LOCKER ROOM at halftime and started first fussing at my dad for not getting me the ball at the end of the half, THEN fussed at me about not taking over the game!! He said, "nevermind being a 10th grader, son, you need to KEEP SHOOTING the ball, BOY!! What is wrong with you, son? SHOOT IT!" I never forgot that moment, and I never will... ;D ;D
He was like a God ;)
