Exposure for players in this area.
BLUEDOVE3 replied to Djones8301's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
My only suggestion would be to educate the kids about the process of trying to play at the next level, who don't have the exposure. Like Dickie said, the coaches already have their kids listed by class. Is anybody marketing or targeting to the NAIA schools? I'm not sure but that might be a market to look into. -

How about playing the game in Livingston. They have a pretty new gym but not sure how many it will hold. Does Cleveland have a decent gym? Just looked at google maps and its 77 miles from Yates to Livingston. 73 miles from Silsbee to Livingston. Problem solved!!
that gym will not hold the crowd.... trust me after kountze vs new waverly played there.
How about Hofheinz Pavilion? It would hold the crowd. -

To be the man, you have to beat the man!!! If the Tigers win tonight, they will get their chance. I am not saying Silsbee will beat Yates, but they will not be intimidated by them either!! Yates wants to get chippy the Tigers will get chippy as well. Now as the great Booker T says "Now, Can you dig that suckaaaaaaassssss" ;D ;D ;D
Supa Fly? ;D -

They were all at Lamar Fleming when I was there. My cousins kept me up to date on them when I went back to Silsbee.
Actually, Coach Brazos, Stewart, & Yates were at E.O.Smith first, the feeder school for Wheatley. Danny attended Smith maybe one year and went to Fleming Junior.
I don't know if you knew this, but Coach Brazos was the SOLE REASON my father left Madison to go to Kashmere to coach. You know he was like a father to my dad...He told him about his pancreatic cancer, and asked that he come back to the north side and get that program where it needed to be, because it was in "bad shape"...My father never told anyone outside of family why he went there...Coach Brazos passed in September of 1999, and Stewart died last year...
Man, we could start a whole new thread on these people. Last time I saw Stewart :'( was in high school. I'll never forget after he became a counselor, he showed me a wad of money. He said "son, just stay in school." I stayed in school but still ain't had the money he had. ;) And Frankie B, :'( the man was like a God among basketball coaches. -

I have to say Dickie V is 100% correct, they are as good of a high school team as I have ever seen. They should be, they are the best that Houston has to offer. Hawks were in great shape until we lost our post presence. The final score was not a true indication of how close the game was. Great job by the coaching staff they put together a great game plan that made their press look silly sometimes.I cant say enough about the young men on the floor last night. They were NOT intimidated by them one bit. IMOHO I think that we played our best game of the year. You truly played with great resolve and the heart of a champion.......Great Job Hawks!
God points! Experience is the GREATEST teacher, Poppabearstarr! ;)....Some just think the world STOPS at the Jefferson/Hardin County line! 8)...Honestly, Yates has no business even BEING in 3A, because they are moving right back up after next year...It was a move for football...an experiment...Should have never been. I will say this Yates might beat Silsbee, but the Tigers are not scared. Coach Sigler, Brooks & Collins will have the Tigers ready, if they should meet.
Tips for silsbee if yates goes up for a dunk..... Foul hard....really hard to send a message....to the point of knocking them to the floor...... Basketball is a contact sport as well. Im not saying hurt intentionally, but if you ve played at a high level you know what im talking about. I highly doubt Yates players even play football, so silsbee should get physical with them. If they hit they re free throws so be it. Which is a lower percentage than a dunk
And Yates will foul even harder!!!! Trust me. -

Not smart...now instead of getting beat by 30, Yates will likely put 45-50 on them!! ;D
Dickie, I think the Silsbee crowd will be more non-believing than the HJ crowd. Yates probably would have came into the game with less fire and desire. The one thing Silsbee don't want to do is wake up a sleeping giant. Leave it alone. Play the game. Put your egos to the side ;D -
First off let me congratulate HJ on another good season. You playe your hearts out tonight and have nothing to be ashamed of. I noticed a nice moment after the game between Coach Sutherland and Devante Johnson. It was a long emotinal embrace that gave me the impression of a lesson learned by a young man. I hate to see a kids career end the way his did but hopefully it taught him a lesson that will make him a better person in the long run. Tonight the big difference in this game wasn't size it was fatigue. HJ played their hearts out in the first half and neutralized the size difference. They had a nice lead in rebounds that first half and size wasn't playing that much of a factor. In the second half they began to get tired and at one point so was Yates. Yates had a nice lead and got to give key players rest. And even though tired when they saw the chance they found energy and went for the kill. With tired legs size did play more of a factor. Now if my Tigers get the chance to play Yates it will be exciting. We will have to have a very good game all around. As far as speed, I think the Tigers have the edge. Pace of play may be faster on the Yates side. If we have a good game, the big question will be whether or not we run out of gas. If we don't it could be interesting all the way to the buzzer, if we do Yates could pull away. If the Tigers can stay right with Yates or even have a lead and limit the use of their bench fatigue could even become a factor for Yates. One interesting thing tonight for me was Melvin Swift ot starting. I am not sure what starting lineup Yates has had recently, but when I saw them early in the year they started 4 players 6'6 or taller tonight they started only 2 that size. That takes away a good bit of that size advantage. The Tigers and HJ are pretty similar in size, hopefully the Tigers can limit the effectiveness of Yates size. BUT FIRST WE MUST TAKE CARE OF KASHMERE TOMORROW NIGHT.
I think the Houston crowd has mentioned several times that one of several strategies Yates employs is to wear the other team down by the 4th qtr. They don't care if you're scoring because while the opposing team is celebrating.....................................................!!
