Can run with yates.   Onky advantage I give to yates is height.  And fundamental. Boxing. Out eliminates that.  Like I said if powell and harper are on, KOUNTZE WINS
My reason why Yates will win: 1.Yates is a really a 6A team-And if you don't know what I mean by this, then you are really in big trouble;) 2. If your shooters can't create off the dribble, you are in trouble. And if you don't know what I mean by this- you getting deeper in territory you never been before. I have more but I will stop for now.
 2.
I said if. ..... Yates most likely wins but to say they will beat them by 30 is a joke. This game will be close .  And dogs I was talking about the real lions. Up hwy 69. Im sure most ppl who predict this game havent seen kountze play or yates. Just predicting By whats on paper.
Seen Yates and Kountze play. Kountze is a very good team.
Get used to it..I'm ALWAYS right!!  ;) :D
I see alot of ppl on this site have no knowledge of basketball.  Dogs1218. I assure u the dawgs want none of them lions.  So if Kountze beats yates does this make kountze the best team 1A-4A CAUSE yates Still would be the best team in 4a right ?
Tell me WHY you think Kountze will beat Yates....(I cannot WAIT to hear this)..Go ahead...I'll wait.. ::)
Must be a long dissertation.

 7.
Yates by a lot!! 8)....Yates 92, Kountze 67....And THAT'S being very generous! Kountze has no size, and I think those Yates bigs will have a FIELD DAY against them inside, which should be the difference in this game.
Yates 89  Kountze 64      ;)
 8.

Are you guys REALLY even DISCUSSING KOUNTZE and YATES??? :o :o....Come on, man! They're not even in the same league with Yates...Literally and figuratively...Yes Kountze will scrap, and fight them hard, but at the end of the day its going to likely be a lopsided Yates win....Yates should not even BE in 3A, actually, so them playing a 2A is MORE of a mismatch than it even APPEARS to be...Come on folks..I know you Kountze people LOVE your team and for good reason, they have a shot at winning it all in 2A...But they are not in the same league as Yates.
Ouchie!!! Ouch!!!!
9.
Agree with dove except star struck..... they will be ready to play... n I think kountze will jump out early on yates with a 6 to 8 pt lead...
Star struck comes in many definitions during competition. This is a big game for them. Its a nationally well known team. They will be [s]star struck [/s]...errr pumped up.
 10. You hear all the time but look at these teams and see how many have single mothers heading their household.
 11. (1)Yates will have an advantage because Kountze will go in a little star-struck for a quarter or two (2) Kountze will have an advantage because Yates will come into the game knowing that they are playing a bunch of small town country boys whom they have never  heard of, and (Yates) mentally not into it for a quarter or two. Again, if your outside shooters are hitting, Kountze will give Yates a run for their money. Make no mistake about it, Yates will control the boards.

 13.
Abe,i think English has so many people around him telling him how great he is because they benefit from the way he runs things.I do not think he knows how much he hurt some great kids that had some talent. You can talk about wins all you want but in the end it is about how kids feel about you and how you effected their lives.Believe me I have found out this the hard way!
Scapegoat, it sounds like you have a lot on your mind. I get the feeling you want to tell us more (in detail) but it seems you are holding back. This is the perfect "forum" to get those deep-rooted feelings out into the open. We're here for you bro!!!
 14. How deep is Kountze? If Kountze shooters are hitting their shots, they could give Yates a fit, If not, a long night ahead.
 15.
Abe,if you noticed in a earlier thread I said he was one of the best coaches in the state of Texas. My point is the team could possibly be better if football guys were not called "football guys" and treated fairly.I see a us against them approach.English has done a great job turning programs around.I think if he moved to a 5-A or college the sky is the limit for him.Specialist are the norm. there.I also said football coach and basketball coach do not get along.Let me ask you,if you were a athletic director and football coach at a school and you found out the basketball coach was trying to get kids that would help the football program play basketball only how much would you help that guy? The football coach also sees his kids treated unfairly! I believe this is what is happening in Nederland.
Hmmm!

National basketball powerhouse the past few years. Kountze will compete. And it will be a very good game for them to play in before the playoffs. But I don't see any less than a ten point win by Yates.
yates aren't as good as past 3 years but they are good...  My prediction.  Kountze.  85                           Yates. 79
But still very good & dangerous. It will be a fun game.
 17.
Now time for 5 on 5 response.Tell me how my son was suppose to get better by playing in the summer when he was not invited by them to do so.Lets say he plays the same position that the person that funds the summer tournaments son does. How often you you think he will get called to play to take some of money parents kids playing time.We will never know how it would have turned out but you can bet my son has zero respect for the basketball coach
Dang!!!!
 18.
OK..where was I? As far as recruiting for the next 1-3 years, we will usually have a "hot" list of kids that are underclassmen to watch, but as you know we cannot contact them until the completion of their junior season, but we can send mail, and info on our program to them via their HS coach.  We watch those kids in summer ball and in season, and we determine if he is a fit for our program, then we start the pursuit...IF they are academically qualified, of course..The BEST time to evaluate potential HS kids is the summer entering their senior season...Thats usually when they face the most competition, AND they are playing SO many games. During the HS season, you are usually able to see more TEAM qualities in a kid, and can gauge if they are TRUE winners, or front runners...Honestly, we won't recruit a kid from a losing program, UNLESS, he is WILLING his team to some wins in the process..Losing is a habit, just as winning...We want winners...Hope that helped!  8)
Ahh, just one mo' summer Dickie V, and I think you will be eating with the devil  ;D Interesting info from an inside perspective
 19.

was he discouraged from playing or did he just not make the cut..... if he didn't make the cut due to other players being better than he was did he:     a. give up on basketball     b. put more work in on his basketball skills during his personal time, so he         could come back his soph year and try to make the team. just because someone doesn't make the team doesn't mean he's being discouraged from playing the sport....it means he needs to work harder and improve his game. if someone doesn't get a job is that employer discouraging him from getting a job. so now he just gives up on working. too many kids now go to their parents to save them when they don't get what they wanted or don't make the team or don't get enough playing time......and there parents go right along with it.....its never the kids fault, its never that the kid is not good enough.... come on people....
Well said. IMO basketball requires much more work to excel in than any other sport. You can't pick up a basketball 2 months a year and expect to get better.
Unlike football ;)

Watered down
Whats watered down? Playoff system?
IMO....yes.  teams can have a losing record and still make playoffs....just doesn't sit well with me.... Yes i have an old school mentality.  I mean whats next....5 teams 6 teams every team makes playoffs.  Society is slowly going towards "no one should be left out" We don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. You don't have to earn anything, there entitled to everything now. False sense of reality to me......but then again maybe not...the way society, along with govt, going towards everybody should get a piece of the pie whether you put in the work or don't. Seems like just a money thing to me.
I was rolling along with you until you brought in the government.  ;) A Losing record and making the playoffs is like giving away "free stuff " in the sporting environment. You didn't earn it
 22.
Sounds like SCAPEGOAT's kid plays both sports and probably rides the pine in basketball.  He's like a lot of parents who believes lil johnny is the best thing to the sport but yet he doesn't get to play, so he blames the coach and looks for excuses rather than seeing his kids ability for what it really is. Just because lil johnny was an allstar lil dribbler when he was young doesn't mean he's gonna be an all star in high school.....too many parents cant see this.
Hmmmm! Between HJ football thread and this one, I'm definitely gonna have to run to store for extra popcorn and sodas :D
