Central vs. Ozen 1/22/2012 predictions
BLUEDOVE3 replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Beating the same rival team 3 straight times is tough -
Here is another difference I've seen between 4-A and 5-A teams in Houston vs Beaumont. Size and skill level of the bigs are a plus in Houston, plus their basketball IQ.
We know about Ozen's shooters. Ozen's only Chance is to get some kind of inside game going. They will also need to control the boards. A strong task for them. We know about Hunter. He'll get his, but will someone else step up? I don't know. Ozen thrives on forcing turnovers. We need to not turn over the ball, make our free throws not allow there to be a dry spell in scoring. bench play could be key. I have Central by 8
Yep, yall better make those free throws in bonus situations, or its a long night. -
If Ozen shoots lights out like they did against Ned, then the Panthers pull the 'upset' and coast to victory. The Jags do not shoot well from outside, so they don't usually rely on good shooting to win like Ozen and Nederland do. I think a lot of pressure will be on the young Panthers to make shots from the outside. I know the Jags are young too, but they have the confidence on their side right now with two big wins over Ozen and Nederland. I think it will lead them to a W. If the Jags are over confident, it will be their demise. Jags by 3 in OT.
The team that plays good (patient) defense and controls the boards will win. ;) -
Westbrook and Memorial can barely win their district and won't get deep into 5-A playoffs. But they do fine playing in this area. It is what it is!!! Bush, Travis, Clear Lake area schools, etc......... tough.

The 30 point performance was Big Ned's lowest point total of the year. This kind of defense can carry the Jags them a long way!
40.
Let me reword it. The 40 points are amongst the lowest total for Nederland this season...
Yep. Not gonna win many games scoring 40 points against an elite team. The defensive effort for Ned was impressive as well. Since the Lufkin tourney, the Jags have averaged 64ppg. Holding the Jags to 50 is not easy. 50 points is amongst the lowest output for the Jags this season. Central has scored exactly 50 in 3 games this year, plus a 38 point and 44 point performance in the Lufkin tourney. In order to win games, we must show up in the 1st half. We have come from behind too many times this season. We must find a way to get a lead early. Gotta play hard and aggressive all 4Q's, not just the last 2 when we are behind.
Very good info and very true.
::) In other words......... ;D ;D :-X
I don't think there is anything wrong with Nederland. There are some small things that Nederland can improve on but sometimes the shots fall for you and sometimes they don't. Look at Ozen for example. They almost lost to PNG because they couldn't get there shots to go down. There is a lot of basketball left. Anything could happen! Also IMO, the BMT schools should be the top runners in the district in all three sports. Football, Basketball, Baseball. You have 100K + to choose from with a open enrollment with a 5A school already in the area vs the rest of the district with 16k that have 1 school. I think Ozen and Central should be playing 5A. IMO, i think if you have a area with 5A numbers and a open enrollment, you should be playing 5A. Or close the open enrollment and make them go to the school in there living zone. I bet there are some 7 graders and 8th graders right now playing together from different zones in BMT debating on what school they should all go to when they get to high school. Other schools in the district don't have this luxury.
Using your example, Worthing High , Davis, Sterling, YEP, etc all should have good basketball programs in Houston because of the population advantage, but they don't. #2, there isn't a school in this area who can compete in 5-A playoffs against Houston schools. But 4-A is wide open- no dominant teams.

You make the WOS bet and the Silsbee bet. Looking at it from your viewpoint, the Silsbee bet is a lock and if somehow lowly HJ (who cant handle athletic teams) manages to eke out a victory of WOS you break even. But based on your deep understanding of athleticism and of HJ, it ought to be two easy bets. How about it?
I don't have to bet. When they lose to Silsbee AGAIN I will get the chance to say I told you so. 2 scorers won't beat Silsbee
Of course Silsbee is better then HJ this year. Think about it, Hj is at a disadvantage this year. Silsbee star should be a sophomore in college.....
C'mon now. You know thats not true. And I have the proof ;)

This is an edited version from a story I came across out of Houston. Below is a projection of the Region 3 top four teams within the 4A , which was written this past December. "The 4A bracket of Region 3 is much harder to predict at this time. Here are the teams who are making their mark as Top Shelf." Terry Rangers - Anytime you have Derrick Griffin in the lineup, you have some serious odds on your side. Once he gains his basketball legs, expect him to rack up a few triple doubles before the season ends. The only way any of these 4A teams are beating Terry is to shoot it very well from the outside. Wheatley Wildcats - Tavario Miller is playing his butt off! The team has just enough guard speed to stay a step ahead of most opponents. The key will be how often they feed Miller the rock is places where he can be most effective near the rim. Marshall Buffs - the most under-rated 4A team in the state! This team has all the tools to not only knock off any other Top Shelf team, but they can actually win 6 straight in the playoffs. Damien Day has been in the starting lineup since 9th grade, but long armed lefty Curtis Bynum has emerged as the go to guy on this squad. He posted 37pts last week in a win over Westfield. Beaumont Central Jaguars - these guys have to experience but something is still missing from the equation. Once they attain that killer instinct on the floor, combined with more spacing and toughness on the interior, they could become very capable of running through the playoff bracket. Others: Dawson, Nederland, Brazosport, Beaumont Ozen.. "Two months later, I feel pretty much the same in regards to my projections for the Top 4 teams in both of those classifications. However, the ink is still wet on Terry HS (4A) and Manvel (5A). In the "Others" category, I would not put much stock into Dawson or Ozen's capability to win at least 4 consecutive post season games. " :o :o Man, I 'd hang this article up in the locker room..........
Just to response to DickieV's comment. I can see where he's going with this. Central IS talented every year. Just like last year, we beat Nederland in a nondistrict game. But, last year's team ended up splitting the district meetings. The game that Nederland did win was in the dog dome.. They ended up tied for first. Dickyv sees a repeat of that this year. I do not. This year's group is special.
From Souljah: "Dickyv sees a repeat of that this year. I do not. This year's group is special." Nederland fans, I have told yall on several occasions these Central people say yall don't belong in the same gym with them. More evidence!!!! Dogs, come out in full force tonight!!!
