Get your best local rivalry teams for district games
Dove- would one requirement be to not allow teams that play easy schedules and run cross country?
No, this is about business. No freebies!! If you can't draw over 2000 patrons, you're off the the "A List."
 2.
Since HJ has played PNG just like Ozen has, what does that say about the schedule?  Does is say that Ozen plays the same weak schools that HJ plays or does it say HJ plays the same strong school Ozen plays?
PN-G is district. You chose to play Spurger and Big Sandy  ;D
 3.
Whatever we do, if we jump out to an early lead, we need to keep the foot on the throttle.  Nederland is NOT the team you want to jack around with (see Ozen_Nederland game).  Keep it up tempo and keep the pressure on them and keep their crowd out of it!
In other words: "Yeah , we will jump out and take an early lead and keep the pressure on. We're not going to jack around with Nederland. WE're going to lay the pipe."  ;)
 4. I guess I better stay away from Sour Lake for awhile  ;D
 5.
Dove you do mean part of the 2% that pay more in taxes correct? I have a feeling had this been a team that was west of beaumont your analysis of this game would have been different ;)
HJ would have smacked PN-G. Thats the advantage of playing weaker teams on a regular basis. They are use to it. ;)

 7.
Why does HJ choose not to play a harder schedule? They play some local 4A and a ton of 2A schools. No school they have played so far this year besides Central and Longview could stay in the gym with Silsbee. Not even Kountze!
Maybe: to: 1. Pad your stats----- get State rankings 2. Pad your stats-- to get S.E.Texas rankings 3. Pad your stats---  ::) ::)
 8.
Last year speaks volumes.  Mr Sutherland has an EXTREMELY distinguished coaching resume at several different schools and until one has similar credentials, one looks a little foolish suggesting they know better methods than he does.
Nash, you know Freeze1914 is correct.  Nash, repeat after me several times, "HJ's program is not perfect."  :D
 9. Playing a softer schedules tends to delay your decision process in making adjustments UNTIL the 4th qtr ;D
 10. Big district game but its pressure on Nederland to win this one. Ooops! Thats right, 4 teams go to playoff in this district.  ::)  If Nederland loses this one, it will definitely have implications on supporters like Honest Abe. No more NEW district championship banners to hang on their threads.
 11. Is it just possible that by HJ playing a softer schedule and Silsbee playing the tougher schedule, everything turned out the way it was suppose to end. And,, just maybe the cross country running time could have been used more productively in the gym?
 12.
Truth is HJ played awful for 3 quarters, Silsbee was tougher, played harder and played with the energy to be up 30. However, you MUST give credit to Silsbee for causing HJ to play that way for most of the game. That NBA 3 point line had those kids shooting 30 footers as well. I also think that playing at Ford Park took away from this game tremendously. My two cents... 8)
Too bad we don't have a basketball arena in the area for high school games :(
 13.

Whether they were fouls in the first half doesn't matter.  They definitely were in the second.  My point was that in the fourth quarter the biggest opponent the hawks had was the clock.  We needed to play good defense without reaching or trying for the tough steals and stopping that clock.  We needed good offensive possessions to keep that clock running.  Yes hj started hitting 3's but not everyone was going to go in. Could the game still have gotten close.....sure.  We just didn't need to help by stopping the clock so much.
I understand what you are saying but respectfully disagree on similar fouls not being called in the first half and whether or not they mattered.  Some of those that were not called in the first half led to scores for Silsbee and unproductive  possessions for HJ, hence the "reward" theory for Silsbee in the first half.  I also understand your theory about not stopping the clock, but , just for examples sake, keep in mind that three of those "unneccessary Silsbee reaching fouls" ,while stopping the clock three different times, could have been offset by HJ making just one three pointer in one possession (one made three pointer vs three trips to the line where 1 shot was made each time). ( If that hypothetical three pointer is made and no  "reaching"fouls are committed, that gives HJ two more "unfouled" possessions to try to generate more points than the 1 they earn on each trip to the line)  Most teams play a particular style and choose to live and die by it.  Silsbee lived by it for three quarters and had problems for 1 quarter.  Hj died by it for three quarters and did well for one quarter.  Personally, I would have much preferred to see HJ zone Silsbee just as Nederland did but they are paying somebody else to make those decisions.  I guess those in power at HJ feel that they have people better qualified than me ;D
The nuts do not not fall far from tree  8)
 14.
Dove if you figure out how to get the kids to by into that idea.  Let us in Silsbee know how you did it.
If I could bottle the remedy to this century old problem, I'd become part of the 2% and pay less taxes.  ;D
 15.
Hey BD3-Why didn't y'all shoot that poorly against Ned last Friday night? ??? Was PNG's zone that much better than Ned's?
Here is my take on the game. First qtr score was 4-1,maybe? Ozen had plenty of shots during the that qtr and just flat out missed them. It was a team effort because there was no mental focus. Ozen took PNG lightly and coasted until the 4th qtr. As sloppy as that game was, Ozen played some of the best full court defense I've seen them play, not counting going under picks against the opponents good shooters in half court "d." But Ozen fought through a bad night and did what they had to do when it counted. The issue at hand is that you don't want your players thinking they can turn it on when they want to - to get the win. That kind of thinking  will send you home early against good teams.
Ok, info a little off.  Going by memory.  It wasn't an offer, it was an 'interest' from TT...and it appears that the latest 'interest' was last Summer.  [Hidden Content] Still, nothing else of this was mentioned.  I wonder why that could be?
Glad you correct that BmtSoulja1. Very seldom you get offers as a soph, only interest and building relationships during this period. ;) The are watching and monitoring your progress.

Maybe he did do a bad job but it didnt cost the kid a scholarship cause he signed with Lamar. If you have the talent, work ethic, and attitude for college ball, like Mitchell does, they will find you. Galveston Ball went 0-10 and Johhny Evans just started every game for Texas A&M as a freshman, his coaches didn't hold him back despite not winning a game. If a kid doesnt get recruited to play college ball it just means that kid isn't good enough to play college ball, plain and simple. Coaches dont get kids scholarships; talent, hard work, and effort gets kids scholarships. I'm just telling you what a college coach that recruits this area told me point blank, but I'm sure you know more than he does right. You are alot more qualified because you have a setxsports profile and post a comment.
This may be the best post that I have ever read on this forum!!!  Here's a little positive Karma for you, Highpoint96.  :)
Karma dap from me too!!

That is overwhelming odds to overcome to play a team with 7 of the top 10 players. Good thing there are just opinions on here. Unlike some if we lose I will give props to the winner not excuses. Good luck to my Hawks against overwhelming odds.
Not overwhelming at all, only 5 play at a time and having at least the two best shooters on the floor is A BIG plus for hj. Besides I didn't rank those top 10 in my opinion,  no telling where those hj players fall into that list.  If having a large numbe if better players guaranteed a win some of these pro teams would never lose.  It's the TEAM that plays best that wins not the player.
Yeah, Poppa, get outta' here with that BS reverse psychology.  You've been serving that stuff up for too long now. ;D 8)
I didn't pull the 7 of the 10 best players out of the air...It came from a self proclaimed expert...with all of that said I just don't see how we can win. Only 5 at a time, we have played them plenty of times when it was 8 on 5  ;) . Even the news proclaimed last night in mentioning Silsbee's record but qualified it with them playing a much harder schedule. I'm excited to see how it all comes out. Hopefully we can keep it respectable tonight.
I am far from one of the self-proclaimed experts on here!!!  Merely stated my opinion,  hard to base to much on having only seen most of those hj players a few times.  Besides listening to all you experts from hj,  those 3 state titles over the last 50 years or so make y'all the big favorite!
Keep it going fellas. We want to fill up Ford Arena tonight
