1.
IMO most of the individual skills are learned at a young age. When they get into HS they are (for the most part) expected to already know how to dribble, shoot, swing, throw properly. To polish off those type of skills it takes a driven individual to practice outside of the normal practice times, putting in that extra effort on the weekends. Ask any successful player at any sport and I bet they tell you that the extra effort put in outside of practice is what set them apart from the rest of the athletes. It's when you get a group of kids that all are willing to put in that extra effort is when you get the best results. Ex. the 2010 Orangefield Baseball team when they made a run at the playoffs. Most of those kids had been playing together since they were just little guys in t-ball. And you can bet that even before the official practices started they were out there putting in work without the coaches, getting their arms in shape, getting their swing mechanics back in order, etc, so that when the season came around they were ready to roll. My point being that it is not sufficient to rely on what is done during practice or an athletics period to make a team successful. If you disagree with that I would be happy for you to give me an example of a team that was successful putting in ONLY the necessary work.
Excellent points!
 2. What I would like to see from the conversation /topic is an awareness and opportunity for future seniors to know what it takes to reach their dreams to become student-athletes beyond their high school playing days. It might take a player making a list of their top ten (realistic) college choices and knowing where to turn to for advice in order to get that opportunity.
 3. I think in the Cy-Fair school area. D. Minnefield is a former Kentucky guard/former Rocket for those who might remember.

Unless it's away from Southeast Texas, for what?
I could see if his parents are moving. ;)
Could be on to something. Again, as long as it's out of Southeast Texas. But then again, that makes no sense either considering he's a KNOWN talent on the AAU "circuit".
Yep! H e could go play for Spurger and it wouldn't matter  8) 8)

 7.
Since another infraction will result in termination from the team, I wonder how many out there will try to use this to there advantage. Meaning players trying to provoke other players. I know it is a terrible thought, but you have to consider it.
Good point! If you have players out there trying to physically hurt you, I can imagine a little provoking going on out there.

I know that he could still "wind up" at a DI, but it will have to be after 1-2 years at a JUCO. I guess we need Steve to clarify if he meant that his bet was for Shawn to get the DI scholly out of high school and not juco.
In my opinion, this particular post is totally inappropriate for this particular thread. If I am not mistaken this topic is to discuss Shawn's ACCOMPLISHMENT not odds on bet on a completely different post .  Although, I completely understand your intent was to throw pie in Nash's face this post could be easily misconstrued as belittlement of his JUCO signing. The ole smile :) before the punch  :-[ tactic is still functioning at a high level. Back to the topic-congratulations "Shawn" on all of your achievements.
As much as I hate to defend Aggie (I'm beginning to feel a little quezzy in da stomach), I think we all accept that Aggie was *poking* at Nash. ;D
Free "marketing" for these seniors.
Yep, especially if that senior has no offers and he's a step away from filing a financial aid package thast he's going to pay back
 12.
Congrats to Shawn! OAN, this further strengthens my argument about kids transferring schools "within" Southeast Texas. Ain't that right, Dove?  :) ;)
LOL! I think if a kid is good enough, he can attend and play ball where he wants to in southeast texas.

 14. Thats a good program. Congrats!
 15. Aggie, as any sensible person knows, its really late in the game and those offers are far and in-between. And I agree with your point being made ;) A friend of mine is bringing  in a  guy to help explain the process to put your kid in a position to help become a student-athlete after high school. Its a process and most parents just aren't aware. With the raw talent I see in this area, there is no reason why kids can't get developed by the time they graduate from high school and continue on as student-athletes.
 16.
Look it is real easy, if you don't like the way things are going then run for school board, not as easy as it seems, or you can run like dove and take your ball someplace other than HF....
Just like the last AD, GOTCHA!
 17.
Then it sounds like it's time for some of the community to run for the school board and get the old hats gone.
The community is the school board!
Actually I'll be working a tourney this weekend- not as a spectator. Golf makes me sleepy *yawn*
Every time I see dove at a tourney he is zoned out.
Very true! I'm looking at weaknesses, tendencies, and strengths of individual players (not teams) on the court. Old habits!
 22. Does this forum have any Midland Lee people on the site?
 23.
Quite Frankly BlueDove: I agree with you, I think that the mid-range jumper is a lost art.  You said Yates was not a great shooting team, but in the few times that I saw them, it seems they shot the ball really really well with the exception of the state championship game.  In the state semi-final game Yates shot 10 for 27 from 3 pt range but it felt like they shot lights out.  Making ten 3 pointers in a high school game is pretty good.  Perception is reality my friend.  The ball player Forte, from Flower Mound, shot all of those 3 pointers each day, but I ask you what did it get him?  It got him, a 5'9" 2-guard, not a point guard, with average handles, average foot speed, a scholarship to Oklahoma State University.  Who (Forte) by the way was the MVP of the 5A Championship game against the #3 and #5 players in the nation of the Class of 2013.  Should he have practiced 3's all the time? probably not, but it sure paid off for him.
Definitely worked for FORTE
 24. Parents! Hope you're listening!!!! Even so, someone in his camp should have been working him to be a pg for the future.
