Actually I'll be working a tourney this weekend- not as a spectator. Golf makes me sleepy *yawn*
And in track.....
Oh yeah! That other sport  ;D

In game situations, da sweet mid range jumper (SMRJ) is the shot of choice and the most available in game situations. And looking at kids today, the SMRJ is the hardest shot to make ;) But I do feel the "3" is like a dunk in a game, its what I call the "wow" factor. I know a kid who gets a lot of hype and plays at a major powerhouse high school in the Houston area. Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, and I heard a couple of ACC schools. He'll shoot 10-15 3's in a game on his summer team and in an average game, will hit 2 maybe 3 of those shots. But guess what! Those 2-3 shots makes him look like a shooter. Yates' players are the same way. Can't shoot but dunking is such a "wow" factor that their poor shooting is overlooked.
I agree that the SMRJ is more difficult for kids today bc there is more value in a dunk or a 3-pointer. When you and I played, no 3-point line existed, so a 14' jump shot was just as valuable as a 20' shot, and the 14' shot was a higher percentage shot. These days, most guards in HS either score (from the field) by making 3's and lay-ups. No surprise that the SMRJ is all but extinct, it's value has diminished.
Now Abe, you know you have me by  :-X years  ;D

 6. Yes, different districts in the Houston outside the Loop and Beltway 8
 7. I'm hearing the tourney is April 14th. Call Nederland.
 8.
Actually the game is not played 1on 0 , a being in the gym working on skills is great. But doesn't teach you how to compete. Spring and summer basketball if done the right way can be very beneficial. Kids all over the country are doing it, some of the best are doing it all the time.  But your right, most fans don't care but this is the way players get ready for the real season. The kids playing should care. Steven a. Is right about the parent part, but there are some parents who are realistic!
I think Stephen A. is saying both are okay but you really don't increase your skill playing all year long. You gotta get skill time in. For example, doesn't make sense to play in games all and you're averaging as a player, 3-5 shots a game and maybe getting 10-12 touches a game. 3v3 will get you more work in. But summer games will give you the confidence to play the game against all types of players. You have to find a way to get in a mixture of game and practice time.

Why dont yall let the sup do her job and yall do your job by supporting hf athletics.
And this surprises you how? If the parents don't get a say so in who is hired, how will they be assured that there kids get to play? We can't have that happening at HF. Deserving players play? No way - I want my son playing.
You didn't pay your booster club fees  ;D
This is an unfair comment towards booster clubs.
You're correct! Not all booster club members pay or try to influence having their kids to get playing time.
he's gotta make room for the next five coming in  ;D

 12.
Quite Frankly... Who really cares about summer league basketball?  I know who:  The volunteer coaches who are trying to win a tournament for themselves, the parents that coach and want their kids to play but their kid has a slim chance of receiving a scholarship, or the AAU coaches who are getting paid a salary for charging parents expensive fees?  Ball players will get better by repetition.  Many ball players in southeast texas think that running up and down the court in summer league or AAU will improve their game but it actually does not do much.  Quite frankly summer league and AAU only improves confidence for kids not scholarship material.  The ball player will improve by putting in the individual work in the gym, and working on his strengths and weaknesses.
Preach on my brother-Preach on!!!!! So true! Especially where " ....only improves confidence for kids not scholarship material....." I see far too many kids and their parents wanting to play in the summer but not put in the individual work.
Hj was there and played in the finals against Ned last year.  You have my personal assurance they will "show up".  But if they get behind more than ten points, the tournament officials ought to step in and "give" them half of the deficit in the name of fairness.
:o Thats a nice progressive gesture
 14. I wonder if HJ will show up or just continue to play in Little Dribbler Nationals?
 15. Well, I keep hearing rumors about a Nederland tourney on April 13th & 14th. It will be good to see the local players mix it up again. English usually gives some good venues for the players to unwind.
But so can the others who are anticipated to be taken before him
Excellent observation
Thank you.  I put in a lot of study and analysis before arriving at my enlightened conclusion.  Are there going to be any Yates players in the draft?
How many former Yates players are in the NBA?  I know there was a thread before that listed Golden Triangle players that have made it to the league, just curious!
Hmmm? Football-several.  WNBA? ONE!  NBA? Does going to the NBA camp count?  ;D
 17.
If that kid could have learned to play the PG position for FOUR years, he would have been BIG TIME...He will be fine in Jerre's system at Highland, and will be a heck of a steal for some program two years from now.
YES, I totally agree with you and BmtSoulja's evaluation.

 20. Or: Baseball is a slow, sluggish game, with frequent and trivial interruptions, offering the spectator many opportunities to reflect at leisure upon the situation on the field: This is what a fan loves most about the game. -- Edward Abbey
 21.
I agree Dove, other than a couple of positions, Baseball is an organized rest.  On the othe hand, there are alot of Right Fielders making alot of money.
lol! Sounds like my kind of [s]action[/s]....errr non-action. On a side-note, playing right field made me appreciate playing the infield in my playing days. I was day dreaming in right field (my first organized game & playing on a regulation field) and a ball was hit to me. I [s]charged it[/s] mis-judged the ball and it went sailing over my head. I asked the coach to put me in the infield to stay awake.
 22. Just seen latest updates: Longhorn guard J’Covan Brown will forego his senior season and enter the NBA draft, he announced today. “There were a lot of reasons to come back to school next year, most importantly getting my degree and being around my teammates every day,” Brown said in a statement. “But the time has come for me to pursue a career in professional basketball and take care of my daughter, Jordyn.” Nearly two weeks ago, the American-Statesman and other news outlets reported that Brown would leave for the draft, the Statesman citing an NBA source. Brown issued a statement in response indicating that no decision had been made.
 23. Man, you can read a comic book in right field  because you'd probably get 2-3 fly balls your way. The rest would be errors from the infield letting the ball get by  ;D
