4. I guess it really depends on who else is coming out this year. If not too many guards come out this year, it might be a good thing. Also look to see whose possibly coming out next year. Just maybe its his time.
 5. I'm sure Mr. Brown put out the "feelers" before making this decision and looking at the class coming out this year. Maybe he's being looked at in the 1st round

 8.
It just depends on what you like to watch. I like to watch a team ,that is matched up even and play good def. and a good half court off. Small School.. But I understand that some like to watch a Team run up and down with dunks and alleys with very little def. 4 and 5a....
I like any team with skillful and quick guards who can score against those big guys. Which is why I have always admired guys like Isaiah Thomas, Allen Iverson, Nate Archibald, and Ernie DiGregorio. They defied the odds.
 9. So, based on this thread started by a *firestarter* whom I will remain nameless [s](BmtSoulja[/s]),  I would conclude that real basketball is played on all levels. The DIFFERENCE is that 5-A gives you a larger pool to watch more entertaining players. ;)

But at 6'2'' he has a little prob. matching up on the def. side.. and he does not have a good out side shot.. his game is more of taking is off the dribble and going to the rack.
:-X :-X

 15.
Personally I saw the Yates team of 09-10 and the 02 of Dallas Lincoln.  I would say that Dallas Lincoln would be the best team I have ever seen.  I might be wrong but I think Lincoln had 6 D-1 players that year.  With Bosh, I think they could have beaten the 09-10 team of Yates.  But of course that is all hypothetical.
very hypothetical!
You could have 5 starters from say Bmt Ozen, all move to a 1A school, would you then call their games "not real" no? You never know what kind of athletes you''ll see in lower classifications, way more often than not, there is more talent in the higher classifications obviously, but some of these smaller schools especially in basketball can feature some big time players, Kountze Devin Bray, 6-3 200 pounds, he would have played on any team in the state 1-5A, so while he was out on the court and when his team was in Austin how could you say that's not 'real' basketball when you could have placed Bray on that HJ 3A team that was also at state and he would have been a force in that game, the 4a and the 5a state game, you can't say it's not real because you never know what kind of talent these small schools can come up with, but generally the last place team in a 2a district vs the 2nd to last place team won't be as exciting as two last place 5a teams going at it, but when talking about State tournaments, yes it's real basketball.
After reading this, you bring up a good point. What happens when a 3A team wins a State Championship and then drops to 2A the next year and wins another State Championship. Were they not playing "REAL" basketball when they simply on changed "classifications?"
Great point! La Marque was just a 4A football powerhouse, they dropped down to 3A next year will they still be playing "real football" lol, that was a stretch to the topic, but I'm just making a point.
Hmmm! La Marque is a traditional powerhouse with real players ;D
 17.
I'm confident that in 1989, the 3A state champs, who I think went 36-0, could have whooped up on more than a few 5A teams.  They had a center named Shaquille O'Neal.  I think they went 35-1 his junior year when they were still in 2A.  Either way, when he played, there was basically one play...throw it high into the middle and let the big guy do this thing.  Seemed to work.
1989? hmmm? Thats about 22 years ago.

 19.
So the 'experts' had Duke as a number 2 seed, yet they lose to a 15 seed. So all of the 'Basketball Gurus' who know as much as one can know about basketball were wrong?? ??? Being a common man, how does this happen? Additionally, Missouri was predicted by MANY to make it to the Final Four (by the experts). Yet, these 'Gurus' got it wrong! With as much 'expertise' will someone please explain how they got it wrong? ???
Sh!t Happens
 20.
Im just calling it like I see it Dickey V.  Im tired of parents saying that the coach didnt get my son a scholarship or since I played at the 3a or 2a level I didnt get a good scholarship.  If you have said this before Dickey V, then it must be the truth. I have a son thats a 10th grader.  He is a decent ball player, but I dont see him as a D1 player at this point.  Thats why Im scheduling visits and camps at Hutson Tillotson in Austin, Wiley College, UT-Tyler schools along that magnitude because my son knows that its about his EDUCATION. Parents need to be real with their kids.  There are only a few players that get to D1 and some dont graduate, but all these other colleges need players to.  So im getting there attention, not waiting on our head coach or his AAU coach.
Great piece! Parents need to become more proactive. My kids will be on Spring Break next week and they will prepare introductory letters to at least 10 colleges expressing their interest in attending their school on an athletic scholarship. It gives them some ownership in preparing for their future.
 21.
Guys it all comes down to exsposure, exsposure and exsposure.  The kids that play AAU ball get a lot of exsposure playing teams from Houston and Dallas.  Whether they play on a team in the area or one in Houston, its about exsposure.  Take Prudhomme for example, I go to alot of AAU tournaments and I didnt see him enough not just playing, but dominating in the the tournaments, like he does at HJ. College coaches want to see 3a and 2a players play at the same level against guys from 4a and 5a.  And the only time they play against those guys is during AAU season.  And when that college coach dont see that, guess what.  He goes looking elsewhere.
Give a gold star to both DV and PA4Life for some very good points. I mean lets be honest here. Kids want to go to major D1's to play, whether its in football or basketball. And nothing wrong with having those dreams. I've known kids who had offers from schools like SFA, Lamar, etc. and sat back thinking they were going to get the offers from the big boys. Didn't happen. But here is a reality question no one seems to want to address.....why only 4 players (?) playing college ball from last year???????

I also have noticed that all the teams that Nash has labeled "intellect" teams seem to be of the Caucasian flavor. ;)
I've suspected for awhile now that Steve Nash was passing as a creole black, but he be really white because of the pattern emerging
