Its the coaches job of whatever sport your talking about to make them more skilled at it. Some teams win because there more skilled, and some win because there physically better, but all teams and players can be better at both.
Yep, coaches with good time management can accomplish both during the off-season.

Okay, I will admit to only one thing. I'm guessing the statue of limitations has passed anyway. In high school we had to attend an assembly with the band playing etc, etc, etc, bah-hh! ANYWAY! I think Fatty Arbuckle (actor) used it in one of his silent movies. My friend ordered it thru Sears & Roebuck catalog ;)

 5.
My first trip to the state tourney (and same today)was an eye opener. There would be two teams warming up. One was very athletic and big when the other was not......Then you say "this is going to be a blow out"  And usually it is but not the way you thought.....At Austin the more skilled teams usually wins. Weights are valueable  when used properly.
I understand your point. But I think when the unexpected happens it draws more attention.
 6.
The athletes are not so different at the HS level than the 80's athletes.  Subtle changes.  I do believe in the pro ranks that players from the 80's (yesteryear) and now are different.  The athletes of today are less skilled but they are bigger, faster, stronger.  Players of "yesteryear" (not sure when yesteryear's cutoff is) but we can say 80's to mid 90's,.  The priority in todays athletics is physical attributes, then skill work.  Yesteryear the priority was skills.  Not saying that either group could not have some of both attributes.  IMO, to be the best you need both.  But if you have to sacrifice, you sacrifice physical ability for skills.
Good points.

 9.
My son plays at HJ and he has said nothing about the field being burned other than "hey dad, someone burned a HF in the middle of our field". I dont think it is that big of a deal as you all are making it out to be. HJ's football program is in a bad place right now. The older kids are so used to loosing that they have developed a "loosers mentality" if you will. During the summer, when the coaches have no control over workouts, with the exception of opening the weightroom from 7am to 7pm, but you only see a handfull of kids there and 90% are Freshmen. So now we show up un-prepared and out of shape and start our season. So now, we loose a game and its time to blame the coaches. Then you have the parents second guessing everything the coaches do and relaying this info to their children. In the mean time, the coaches wives are setting in the stands having to listen to upset parents saying hurtful things about their husbands. I think the negativity starts with the parents. Get your kid to the weight room and start some off season training. Also, weight training and conditioning does not have to stop because football started. There is nothing like running the stadium stands for a football player. The negativity that is in those stands every Friday is spreading like a cancer. I tell my son every day when he goes to school, "be positive, yes sir, no sir to every coach you come in contact with, listen to them and do your best to please them because its going to pay off".  There are too many parents in the stands griping about who's playing where (which I am very guilty of), why freshmen are on the field (there are only 2 and in my opinion 4 more that should be there starting), why we are running this play, and "he better not yell at my kid". We have to get a hold of it, do our part as parents to get our kids prepared, and stop blaming someone else. And maybe, just maybe, we can shut up all these football critics with nothing better to do than get on a site like this and slander a bunch of kids.
Sir, yall been at HF too long 8)
Yeah why should anyone work to be a "complete" player anyway?? Just pick a couple of skills and work on that.  ::) :o
I assume that you are belittling my last comment.  I am all for strength training and endurance training but NOT at the cost of skill training/improvement.  If you have a player who looks like Adonis and can dunk flat footed and run the 100 yd dash in 9.5 seconds, that is great.  However, if he can't make a free throw when it matters, or doesnt know how to "take care" of the ball and not turn it over, I would gladly sacrifice some of that strength and speed for a better set of skills.  I think Larry Bird is probably a good example of what I am suggesting.
Bird is gone. Only one Bird. Get over it. Not in your lifetime ;D

A man with some common sense. I'm so tired of hearing about players who can dunk a ball. I always follow-up with: can they hit a mid range shot with some consistency? Can't fool the old schoolers with that X-Box mentality.

Green is great QB as well, Singleton isnt the whole team but with him at QB we sure won alot of games. Any quarterback that can carry his team on the road in 4th quarter has my respect. I know NFL and High School is totally different but, Ask tony romo how hard it is to carry a team in the 4th quarter? Takes a special player to do so
Don't forget the guys up front...with out them, I don't care how good u think he is.... ;)
I think that can be said about any QB on the list. 22.
Superb use of the English language and I have a feeling that the Bulldogs will capture the title again.  I tend not to get too concerned about what somebody else feels about the district we are in or who we played.  We are regularly criticized for our weak schedule but that weak schedule has not stopped us from getting to the regionals each of the last 5 years.  Based upon that result, I am getting more and more convinced ( ;D) that the coaching staff may actually know and be better qualified to handle the details than posters on this board.
Must be weak regionals ;D
 23. Now that he has a personal interest in the district, 20-4A is now elite (especially if Nederland doesn't win their 3rd district title in a row).  :o

Evadale's #17 ranking is a good place to start. The Rebels will return three starters from last years State Runner Up team in shooting guard, Devon Murphy; small forward, Shawn Totten and point guard, Brandon Bruce. The Rebels lost the big senior class in numbers and height, but a couple of other players from last years team can be looked on to fill those wholes. Post, Kyle Taylor got plenty of playing time last season and playoff experience as well. Bradien Burford also was brought up from the JV by coach Laurence Williams so there are five players (four of those are seniors) who bring plenty of experience and knowledge of the system into this season. There are some talented players that will make the move up from the JV squad too!
Will The Rebels Win There Dist. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I think it will be a 3 team race this yr between Hull, BS, and the Rebs. The Rebs will be trying to replace 3 all dist big guys and learing to play a different style of ball. I look of them to strugel in predist. just like in football, but by the time dist. rolls around they should be playing good ball. The key to this yr, as in all yrs, is to limit the turnovers, and get their shooting guard open looks. They are going to be smaller than they have been in 3 yrs, so they will have to relia on speed and good shooting.
