2. Excellent points from you all. Another tough drill is playing one on one in the paint only (and no foul calls). But an adult has to be near to keep tempers from flaring. Rough drill but it will make you get use to contact.
 3. One of the advatages with having experience is that you have something else to measure your goals and accomplishments. And maybe the disadvantage of having experience is accepting change. Anyway here is my peeve. I see a lot of young people who lack the fundamentals of the game. Kids doing cone drills!!! Nothing wrong with using cones in your drils but you can only get so many reps in cone drills. I am a firm believer in playing 3 on 3 basketball to get in your reps and training. Think about it! Look at all the different reps you get in playing 3 hours. Kids can't finish in the paint with contact no more. Why? Too many cone drills? Any thoughts?

I try to teach kids that a dribble is to gain a advantage. What have you gained by just taking the ball from the backdoard ,taking it to the floor just to bring it back up to the backboard?????
Especially when all you are doing is saying to some little short guy on the other team, "Hey, come steal the ball while its down there". I can't tell you how many times I've seen Jarvis, Jacoby, and now Gus turn that into a fast break for our team.  Its so easy to prevent, but players do it without thinking.
Its gotta be the X-Box syndrone. The 'Box" does all the thinking for you.
 5.
It has to start on defense for them. Also Jordan Hamilton needs to start playing within the offense. He is starting to just throw up shots again.
Hey watchout what you say about him. Its all about one and done now ;)

I say that because Joe can really drive from the free throw line to his left and shoot a lay up with his left hand really well for a big man.  On the other hand, if it means Joe won't dribble while he's in traffic in the lane, that may be a good thing.  (If I were a coach, I'd make every post run laps whenever they try in dribble through traffic!)
The Dribble in traffic, does not get to me as much as the aircheck by the big men at the goal!!!! Just catch it high and shot it high.. When you bring it down, you go from 6'7'' to 5'5'' >:(
Isn't that the same thing that happens when you rebound it, then dribble, then go back up? Drives me nuts!!!
Me too! I guess X-Box NBA Live does it ???
 7. Texas thread getting kind of quiet now. Deja Vu?

 10. I think we should change the name of the basketball section to: SETXHJsports. They deserve it.
 11.
Although Da Dove would imply he isn't supporting the area teams, it is not true.  Dove loves basketball and has a lot of fun with his comments on the board.  He just likes to stir the pot every once in a while.  I am trying to think if there is anyone else like that on this board?
ah yeah! YOU! You're my mentor.
Like I have said in the past, there are two teams (Ozen, HJ & HF) in this area where it is hard for me to give props because of their excellent tradition for winning, and I'm just jealous. Now thats the best I will do :P

Ozen is a good 2nd pl team who beat a District Champ. Ozen is no joke. They beat Silsbee this year, and played Nederland tough one game.
Give Dove a break.  He's not familiar with the play-off system so he wouldn't know a strong bracket from a weak bracket.  ;)
oH OKAY rub it in :P
Couldn't resist, my brother!  BTW, what game did you go see tonight?  It looked like there were several incredible games available.
I could not make any playoff games this past week/end :(

 15.
Easily the best 6 seconds I have ever seen in a high school game..............Bosha cutting up the lane and Prudhomme driving baseline and Bosha lobs it for Prudhomme and the one handed alley, then Prudhomme steals the in bounds pass and takes two dribbles coming down the lane and tomahawk dunks on some dudes head!!!!!! ;D ;D :o :o
::) :P
 16. So, when it is all said and done, the mighty Hawks are still flying high. I may become a believer before its over with.... ::)
Yes ol' wise one! What you hear is correct ;D
the sad part about them moving towards mid-county is that they will be little fish in a big pond and may not shine as bright in that big pond.  And then the high school program at HF will never be as strong as it could be.  I don't know the answer other than to have the varsity coach more involved in the middle school program.  As far as developing a little dribblers program out here, they have a GREAT program out here where the boys team consistently go on to nationals and make a showing in the tournament.  I wish they would stay out here and build up this program.  It would be great for the district and (I think) better for the students.
I do agree with what you're saying and the subject matter would make for an interesting debate, pros and cons on both sides.

In defense of weights, I think the kids were turning flips and began to throw up. Or at least thats the way I envisioned his story.
 23. Regional tourneys are March 4th and 5th. I have no idea why UIL has the dates this way.
Could be a misprint but wasn't there test days the week of regionals last year?
Or maybe UIL is trying to fool a certain so-called sports expert/ broadcaster *cough* from attending ;D
