Read some notes on the this subject last night about the differences between Catholic and Public Schools in Texas.
first, dont you mean parochial schools or private schools not all of them are catholic
*For instance the Public Schools could only play 10 games,2 tournaments and one game per week. Compare to the Catholic Schools that can play up to 30 games,5 tournaments and 3 games a week.
public schools can play 21 games and 3 tournaments and play twice a week (only on one school night) and i know a school that has played over 40 games in a season for the last 4 or 5 years
*Most parents that have a son playing basketball at a junior high do not know much about the Catholic Schools. Not only they would be playing more games but at the same time also getting a better education.
got a relative who has taught at both private and public institutions and have seen those that come from a private to a public struggle mightily while those that go from a public to a private suddenly become all star students
*The exposure is greater because most Prep Catholic High School coaches attend the Junior High basketball tournaments looking for talent for their schools.
so public school coaches dont attend junior high tourneys? yes private schools recruit but that doesnt equate to more exposure ***on another note private schools are the only place i have ever seen where a team can be winless in district, still make the playoffs, and then win a state championship.....yeah! everyone gets a ribbon!
I was only quoting from an article ;) -

But I guess you can get a jump start on that weight lifting program :D
I think the weight lifting may have some of those guys sore. My 9th grader knees are killing him. Not saying its the weights but its probably putting more pressure on them.

Read some notes on the this subject last night about the differences between Catholic and Public Schools in Texas. The writer was stating: *There is a big difference between the Public Schools and Catholic School in Texas. *For instance the Public Schools could only play 10 games,2 tournaments and one game per week. Compare to the Catholic Schools that can play up to 30 games,5 tournaments and 3 games a week. *Most parents that have a son playing basketball at a junior high do not know much about the Catholic Schools. Not only they would be playing more games but at the same time also getting a better education. *The exposure is greater because most Prep Catholic High School coaches attend the Junior High basketball tournaments looking for talent for their schools.

I've known some great players who were supposely destined to go to the NBA. And I've known a small few who made it and no one ever expected them to go that far. Some of these high school kids are good at the level they are playing and will not advance much farther. The thing with 3-A schools is that the level of competition isn't all what it is talked up to be ( I'll probably get some flack). Jarvis is going to have to play against some top quality players or some good exposure camps during the summer months to get any notice from the big D-1 schools. Which is where most of these kids are trying to play ball
I think Aaron Rodgers of the Superbowl Champ Packers is a prime example of someone who DID NOT play with the 'big boys" and still became a great quarterback despite being undersized, despite playing at Butte Community College for two years because nobody "knew about him'. Doesnt look as though being from a relatively small Oregon HIgh School hurt his chances much even though he didnt compete with the big boys from LA or Chicago or New York. Until Mr. Rodgers transferred to Cal for his last two years, he didnt have the benefit of "the better competition". I therefore assume, that there are some other qualities possessed by Mr. Rogers that enabled him to get where he is right now.
Basketball is a unique sport. You gotta be able to do 3,4,5 things all at one time. But football, well thats another story ;D

Is there such a feature here for the karma?
Dont think so...... If we had that feature, we would have to have a dedicated thread for arguments ;D
2932 post. 308 positive karmas. 169 negatives. Something is wrong here ::)

I think teams should take out their starters with a 30 point lead and put in the reserves. But that doesn't mean you don't stop coaching to get your reserves the game experience. If we're a trapping team I don't think its wise to sit back and play zone. You still work on your trap defense and try and steal the ball. And I'm sure the bench players wanted to show what they could do in a game situation to earn more playing time. Hopefully the PNG team kept playing best in a losing situation.
First of all, are we really suprised Ozen ascted this way? When my daughter played (2004-2008) they acted just as bad. They are definitely better basketball players, but they don't know how to be good sports about it. And I don't see this kind of behavior in volleyball or softball. Secondly, this isn't as bad (believe it or not) as when Central (in 2004) beat PNG 121-20. They just wanted to beat us by 100 or more...not just reach the 100 point mark. And why is PNG so bad this year? Honestly, PNG girls basketball has never been a powerhouse team, but not too long ago, they were playoff contenders (2007 i think). They even had a play-off game against ozen and missed the playoffs that year. I feel sorry for any girl that really wants to play and win to have this kind of year.
Thats probably the question thats needs to be addressed, "why are they so bad?"
I'm an Ozen Panther supporter. Over the years in softball when the PNG girls were beating our girls. 30-1 and 35-0 nothing was said. Now when the shoe is on the other foot it's a problem. When took those butt whippings with class so you do the same. Those people who said Ozen was pressing should learn what a press is. Ozen was not if we were we would have scored 150. So don't take it personal. When you beat us badly we didn't.
:o
