I can say this: Each Freshman have their own unique talent and it will be interesting to watch how they develop in the coming years. -

But for whatever reasons, some coaches can't figure it out. Maybe thats why they make terrible coaches. -
I have not really seen anyone that is ready except for DC. That being said, he still has a lot of work to do. Most kids and parents have no idea what to expect at that next level. Kind of like the football kid from Silsbee coming back home. If is sometime easy to get caught being a big fish in a small pond and when you realize that you go from the king of campus to the end of the bench it can be tough for kids to handle. I was talking to a baseball kid the other day that signed with Texas last year and he was kidding that he wanted the coach that recruited him back instead of the one that yells at them all of the time. Just a different world out there now and most kids around here are just not prepared for it.
Preach the wisdom! ;) -
It sounds like BlueDove is getting ready to fly the HF coup to the HJ coup????? I have heard alot of beating around the bush. And in all honesty you should be able to move your kids to wherever gives them the best chance to succeed.
:-X :-X ;D
That's the biggest misconception about playing college ball. There is very little if any financial help at a D-3 school. Some kids sign to play at them only to realize later that it's not what they want to do.It's hard to go from a packed house in high school to a some of these small schools who draw 150-200 people to a game. There have been some really good small school players in this area over the last few years and most didn't play past high school. If you ever get a chance go check out an SFA,Sam Houston or Lamar practice, these are small mid majors and the talent level will open your eyes.
Good points! -
I wasnt stating that i thought all of them were gonna play major D1 ball. These are the players that have the BEST CHANCE to play ANY college ball. I dont think there is a player in SETX at all that will go too a major D1 program. DC is the only one that has a chance to get on a team. But he wont be too successful if he doesnt up his game.
Playing "any college ball" doesn't always mean you will have a scholarship.Up his game to what level? Certainly he can play NAIA, D-3, etc. Thats why I think a kid's play should be broken down to what level you think he can play, if he needs to "up his game." ;) -

Central has the athletes to win, but the coaching does not improve there skills. These kids have been good players since coming to Central but the coaching and guidance hasn't helped improving thier skills. The coaching is failing these kids. Basketball fundamentals! Skills? All Central has players that handle the rock well, has the leapers, has a brute, and has the shooters.... Those are skills. What they don't have is fundamentals. When to shoot, how to move the ball, when not to dribble, how to deliver the pass, how to play position defense, and how to beat a particular defense! Those are all about the coaching! Dont get me wrong it helps greatly. But then you see alot of State champs who had no players have any college impact. Some teams with great players that are a beast in college, end up losing to a better coached less talented squad in highschool. Examples: Ft Bend Bush went to State last year when Bellaire had way more pure talent! Yates had 6'10 Anthony Jones (Baylor), Joseph, and Peters and lost to a Wheatly team with no next level talent! Texas Tech Mike Singleton stared three years at Tech, but lost to a Duncanville team with couple of College bench players None of the members of FW Dunbar that beat Ozen went directly to a D1 school, while Perk is now a pro, Chappell started D1, Dabney Started D1, Brekenridge played D1, Young started D1 The team with Deron Williams and Bracey Wright did'nt even make the State game that year! Central has some athletes and two basketball players!!! That is enough to compete in 4A!
Excellent points. There are differences between athletes and basketball players. It would probably be better to break it down to major D-1, Mid-Major, JUCO, etc. Major D-1 schools look for certain qualities in a player and Mid-Major schools take whats left. -
Man the coaching at Central has completely went down hill since David Green left. Rice has basketball knowledge but lacked discipline with the players. The coach now only has 3 plays on offense and his defense has no rotations what so ever. This conversation came from a player and myself a few days ago. Me: whast up man,how yall looking this year? Player: I don't know, but I know we will be in shape!! Me: Why is that? Player: Man we have been running on the track every day since the 2nd week of school. Me: What??!! Nothing in the gym? no basketball stuff? Player: not at all, running on the track everyday in 4th hour.We learned our first play a week before our first game.He just want us to push the ball for layups and pressure the ball on defense. Me: WOW you cant be serious. Player: He told us all we go have is 3 offensive plays and we better find a way to make them work. not many games will be won like that.
I admit I've only seen one Central game, but I wasn't too impressed with the skill level those kids showed against Ozen. But they do hustle and get after it. Maybe thats why he has them in shape. -
