Last year we started a freshman, a sophomore, two juniors and a senior most of the time.  Believe it or not the only one with varsity experience was the sophomore.  This year we start 4 seniors and a sophomore.  They all played varsity last year except one and that experience from last year makes a big difference.  Also this year our strength is our outside shooting and coach is letting them get the ball up the court, look for the open man and take the 3 if it's there.  We take a lot of 3's and we make a lot of 3's most of the time.  We also got a new player eligible at the Christmas break that has helped our depth a little.  He's only about 6'1" but he is a quick jumber and has really helped our inside game.  He rebounded well and blocked 3 or 4 shots against Lumberton.  But for anyone who has seen the teams in our district, size matters.  It's going to be really tough going up against St. Thomas and St. Pius with the size advantage they will have inside. Hopefully our hot shooting as of late continues into district play.
I've seen some of the Kelly kids play in a Fall league. They were running and popping 3's.
The Cleveland-HJ playoff game last year was a classic example of how much difference good coaching can make.  HJ was outmanned at every position but came out on top on the scoreboard.
I think the HJ coaching will make a huge difference. I think HJ coaches are the greatest next to M. Ali. I think HJ coaches walk on water. ;D
WOW! Now I am really a believer in the HJ machinery. ;D actually, if you must know, they turn it into wine, then walk on it.
Kelly would beat both teams by 20+ lol
Agree, Kelly is head and shoulders over those teams. Has Vidor played anyone this year that may be considered above average, in any classification?  Not being smart but was wondering if the Pirates have improved or are they still playing down in competition?
Played Hamshire Fannett 4 times this year and HF is above 500 this season.
 4. Maybe its the coaching  at Kelly ;D
 5.
The biggest factor to me was free throws. Evadale was terrible at the line, going 3-20 (2-16 in first half) for 15% (12% 1st half) while Kountze was a solid 12-17, 70%.
Wow! You're getting good at this.

 7. You make several good points. If I'm pulling a kid out for a mistake, you have to be able to teach on the sidelines during the game. You have to know your players. keeping up their confidence is a part of the job too, or you'll have kids worried about making mistakes and being pulled. Not good! Basketball coaches need to be made accountable like football coaches. Coaching less talented players will bring out a coach's real weaknesses.
 8.
Hey Dove, how bout those Westbury Christian boys winning the Houston ISD tourney, taking out yates by 12
Great win by WBC. Things are not so predictable now. Makes the season more interesting now. But Yates has a young team and they will still do good.
 9.
Rice did alot of wrong doing no disrespect to silsbee but i remember when silsbee was always have a fourth an fifth tema in the area cuz bmt an Pa school had so much talent to choose from the talent pool is dropped silsbee gets what they get but this school an choose from THOUSANDS of Students an I can bet none of them can hold a candle for silsbee
The talent has dropped all over the Beaumont area and is no fault of the coaches.
 10. Like a Chris Sanders HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!! ;) ;)
 11.
Actually, that would just mean that everyone in the area would just have to work harder and raise their competitive level.  Might actually turn out to be a good thing.
True!
 12. It may be coming because there are a lot of former students who have moved on to the Clear Lake and far east Ft. Bend ?Alvin area schools.
 13. cLEVELAND gonna be in the hunt for awhile.
 14.
Oh I forgot Legacy just has all the size in the world. They just overwhelm you with size and power. That's not kellys game they are going to spread the floor and hit open jump shots. But I guess that legacy would just shut that down. All I was saying is that there is a Huge Difference between tapps 5a and tapps 2a.
I would say a BIG HUGE DIFFERENCE between TAPPS 5A & 2A ;)
 15. Looking at Kelly's schedule they don't run from competition.
 16.
You have to remember that the coach that is their now is not the coach who had coach the team for the past few years.  I see improvement in the Central team from last year to this year.  Several of the Ozen players played at Central for the former coach, Ieans, Daire, and Zenn.  They left Central because of the former coach, and it is a shame they could not come back, as all are seniors.  I do fault Rice for alot of what is wrong with the Central basketball program.  Smith is an excellent player, but has spent three seasons doing exactly what he want.  Anyone who coach should know that it is hard to re-teach older players.  You are very quick to judge, do you coach?
Who me? I do personal coaching.
 17. Will Silsbee or HJ have to go thru Cleveland if they win their district games?
 18. Heres another reason: I asked a kid (player) from Westbrook earlier today about a particular player @ Central. The WB kid said the Central kid was great. I asked him what made him so good. The WB kid said because he dunks the ball. ::) I asked the WB kid did the Central kid have a mid-range game. The WB kid didn't know what I was talking about ::)
 19.
I'm not doubting Cleveland being good by any means! But, are they really "Second in the State Good?" I mean, this is over some quality teams! And I know they're not in SETX, but Dallas Madison still up there, even with a 9-6 record. I'm thinking they're getting their ranking because of their name. And I'm bracing myself here, because I'm about to get hit hard! However, I think HJ and Silsbee are both overrated this year. They just don't seem to be on the same level they were in the past. All are good teams, no doubt! But are they where their rankings put them?
Whew! Finally the truth begans to come out about HJ ;D
 20.
big bounceback win :)
:D You're not cutting any slack for the Vidor team. Maybe the Vidor team is young and their getting a little more playing experience and confidence as they prepare for war.
 21.
Now I wonder what the Ball coach had to say about Lake Travis before the game. "Well beat them by 20 at least"! Right coach
Probably looked that surburban team and felt they would win by 30.
 22.
????
C'mon now, did you expect Buna to make a comeback ::) :D
 23. Wow! Hightower is in a totally different league. Plays in a tough district.
 24.
Lol I think that district is down this year in general... oh and I saw Visor has another tough one this week with legacy  ::)
I remember we had a thread going on the talent level for this area and how it was down.
 25.
when and where?  What are the most athletic teams in the james gamble?
Ya gotta be careful asking for the "most athletic" because your definition may be totally different from another. Whats athletic @ Central  ;) will be different from Houston Wheatley :o
