I have noticed the lack of size in general in this area, and I don't understand it.  I can see how the 3A and smaller levels have less size, with posts in the 6'3" range or so, but the 4A & 5A teams should have posts in the 6'6" or taller range.  It should just be a number of students thing. I played at a big 5A school in Sugar Land (a long time ago because I'm old), but our starting line up was 6'11", 6'6", 6'3", 6'1" & 5'10".  Most teams we played had at least one post over 6'6", and usually 2 that size. In recent years, West Brook has been relatively small and not that good.  Why is that in a school of about 2500 students?  Emphasis on other sports?  Coaching?  or what?  I'm asking because I honestly don't know.  My kids are still in middle school.
LOL! My junior high team consisted of: 6'11" post, 6'6" and 6'5 wings. Our B team post was 6'10"....We were the feeder school for Wheatley High School. The players were given special liquids ;)

I'm sure the coach is aware of your son's ability and potential. A little communication in private possibly would answer your concerns. Then if you need to "rent" that house from AAW, go for it. Hope your sons do well and continue to enjoy playing the game.
Nope! Haven't talked with him. I always thought your talent or lack thereof should do the talking for you. ;)
not always talent that makes up a coaches mind.
There is one thing in life I have learned about coaching, young man. You can only hide talent for so long. It rises to the top some kind of way. You can't stop it. But your paycheck will. ;)

 5.
What about Dove? He sometimes acts and sounds like he is under 17. ::) ;) ;D This whole subject is pretty lame. Nothing but a personal platform to stand and politic from. Coach Richardson knows what's best for his team. I am quite sure he has a game plan and it's not to just satisfy a few. ;) (of course, you know what they say about the squeeky wheel ;))
You're lucky I'm going to use your address in Silsbee next season for athletic purposes or I would really tell you something :D
 6.
This is a great oppurtunity for HF to prove themselves. Would it surprise too many people if the horns finished in the top 3?
I'm from Missouri  ;D
 7.
Ya that's exactly what I said. 17 year old kids can't handle people talking a little noise on them. NO!!! I was criticizing dove for being hypocritical and I for one believe our boys will give lcm more fight than any of "you haters" believe they're capable.
Hopefully the varsity will go out tomorrow night and prove me wrong. I've definitely given those involved the incentive to prove me wrong. ;)
 8.
Wow...expectations must be very low for H-F basketball...I must go and watch them play.Do they play in the area this week?
LC-M. Well it's good to know we may attract some new fans.
 9.
Coach DJ gave some advice last week.   As a freshman be seen not heard. Let them see you at your best all of the time. Do not talk noise, etc. Let your game do your talking for you.  Sophomore year its a coming out party.
Good advice ;)
 10.
relationships between the AD's
oh okay. makes sense
 11.
First of all, it doesn't help the players to believe in themselves whenever bluedove is on here telling them they don't stand a chance and that they don't deserve to be on the team. Second of all, maybe next time hfmom08 can use a little punctuation and enable the rest of us to understand what theyre trying to say without disecting the post.  ;D
Doesn't help either when you can't stop middle schoolers. I'm not being mean. Just the facts! You really don't want to accept the facts and move on, do you?  ;)
 12.
Watched Central vs WB freshman last week, only a couple of kids 6'2 or better between both teams.  Alot of people think 6'2 is a giant around here.  When 6'2 is a small in Houston.
if you're under 6'2" and playing on the circuit, you better be quick.
 13.
95% of the time he will be the best athlete on the floor. However, I've also seen him get down on his teammates and all around just try to do too much forcing bad shots or making silly passes. His attitude is a problem for me. I don't like to see guys degrade their teammates because they aren't as good 95% - then by district he should be on JV, depending on how far team could go to playoffs, get moved up.  He is a freshman, he will have to learn the whole team captain, role model for a high school player, encourage instead of degrade, but that will come with playing time and maturity. Also, older players may think just because he is offering advice, or his knowledge of the game, that he is degrading them.  It does not mean he thinks he is better then you, his intention is purely to make the teams better.  But what Senior wants to listen to some freshman, right.  If he is already 95% of the time the best athlete on the floor, he might teach them something.  And if you are talented but no one takes you seriously because you are a freshman, you might have a attitude, doesnt make it right, but that can also be corrected.  Team chemistry does not happen over night. Trusting a player takes time. If they cannot catch the passes, they have to work together on that, softer, or just practice getting to know each others touches/likes/dislikes.   Lil Blue Dove - keep working, keep you head up and be patient. Always do what you are capable of, give 112% all the time, no matter where you play, ot at what level. It is still up to the coach to play him at an upper level. Just be so dang good, he would be foolish not to play you.
Spoken like you're living the experience, and I know you are because Coach DJ taught him well ;)
 14.
this is not from hf mom its from hf dad. if i'm correct the coach picked team captin not the players. respect is earned not given.to be polite in summer ball in which i set on the side line with said players all started the summer season, and all but one finished not sayings names just stating facts its not chemistry its just choices and that does not make it right. it works at hf because it is excepted and it is time for change.
Let me guess. You had players to quit, didn't you?
 15.
from hf dad. thats why it is like that now not expected to win, they competed this summer and they enjoyed playing together right now i dont see that excitement on there faces alot of in fighting the mentallity is freshman,jv,varsity it should be one program thats what i  dealt with during the summer and we worked through that but i see that it is back and should not be tolerated but it is. because no matter who is on the court they should be able to play together thats where coaching chemistry comes into play knowing strengths and weaknesses of your players and dont ask them to play out their roles and abilities.
And winning will bring about a change

Maybe there is some sort of mutual correlation between the two ???
Mabye it in the water. Pasadena isd is lucky to have one kid that-------5-6 and that tall. :D :D :D
When I was high school, Pasadena may have had  a player @ 5'3" playing the post. Must be a tradition ;D
It is now and will be in years to come. PISD like it that way. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Thats why I never see you guys in "real" tournaments  :D :D
 17.
What does team chemistry have to do with winning games? Seriously? A team that doesn't like each other for sure can't play together, and what HF has this year for the first time in a long time, is a team that actually enjoys playing with one another. Has anyone stopped to think that the young talent doesn't mesh with the varsity and would only cause tension? No one is arguing that the "da freshman PG" is not talented enough to be on varsity. The real question is how would he fit in with the system? I've watched him play, and don't get me wrong, the kid is good. 95% of the time he will be the best athlete on the floor. However, I've also seen him get down on his teammates and all around just try to do too much forcing bad shots or making silly passes. His attitude is a problem for me. I don't like to see guys degrade their teammates because they aren't as good. Bluedove, I have nothing but respect for his determination and will to win, but I do have beef with the way he treats his teammates. If you want to teach him something, tell him to watch the way Joey Nguyen (the starting varsity PG) carries himself through practice and games, always encouraging others and never getting down on anyone but himself. If someone makes a mistake, Joey is the first one to pick them up. His talent isn't the reason he is the captain of this team, it's the fact that every player out there respects him and wants him on the court right next to them.
You're right, I do stay on him about encouraging his teammates. He's working on that part of his game. As far as passing, if you're open he will pass the ball and get the assist. But I don't think he makes silly passes. Though he did a no-look in a game and I told him he was trying to be cute and the it wasn't necessary for a no-look. His passes are very hard at times but thats because he plays at a very high level against very quick and athletic kids in AAU. He knows not to "playdown" so the passes will still continue have a zing. But this thread isn't about promoting a kid . It's about finding the players who will come together in their own individual strengths and contribute to HF having a winning season. IMH-OPINION, based on what I have witnessed, HF is going to have to prepare their younger guys for a trip to regionals :o
 18.
Seriously, nobody thinks HF stands a chance?
I honestly don't think the players know that they can win. Watch the body langauge on the court. ;)

 20. I wonder why the Dallas teams seem to be coming more. They have enough competition right there where they are, unless they're coming down for practice.

 22.
Out of roughly 7000 students, there are no kids 6'5" or taller to play basketball?
I was told the same thing. Hard to believe.
 23.
Ozen wins this contest ! Ozen - 68 Silsbee - 62
Met some really nice people in Silsbee this week. They love their basketball Gotta go with Silsbee just for those reasons ;D

I'm glad yall are excited to have some kids who can play over there, just be a little patient and see what happens! Support your team in a positive way and you will see your program take off!! HF and Coach Richards are long overdue some success!! Good luck!!
Totally agree!! Maybe he is slowly going to work in other players as the season progresses. Over at H-J they normally start working the younger kids in during tournaments to see how they handle the pressure and speed of varsity. Just be patient Blue, your son will be on varsity soon enough.
Playing JV is fine with me ;)

I have no problem if I see improvement among the current team. I'm only going on the history of the program and what I see on the court this year. If you know anything about team sports, watch what happens when you put your best players on a team. Pratices get very heated and intense. Everybody seems to pick up their game or get left behind. ;) Thats competition.
