All he gets to do is watch....lol
And luckily I.......... :-X :-X :-X !

`I don't know how it is now but I'm sure JUCO hasn't changed much. You run into players from NY, DC, NC and other parts of the East Coast at JUCO's competing for limited spots on these teams. You also get a lot of kids trying to walk-on and reality sets in for many players. Many went home.

He has done it three times in three years!!!! ::) ::) ::)
You know that you realy need to get over were my son played and is playing this year. But I do hope you have as much to say face to face when we get to the HJ tournement. ;)
Its's really a common practice for high school players to transfer before the start of a new school year.
You make great points But if you are sitting the bench not even a Jr collage will get to see them. And yea the kids skill are prob. not as good as the kids in the 3a or 4a teams But if he takes his team to the state game He will get some attention from at lease a Jr collage.
Okay, that was my thinking. A JUCO will take a look at the players. Very good. I think you're the dad who was running into what I call, " playing little Johnny," as others call it, player favor-ism. ;)
Here is my take... The Point Guard for Spuger is the best in 1a and will get plenty of exposure by making the playoff in 1a.. If he was to play at HJ, Silsbee, WOS, he would not be the starter, so playing at the smaller school is in his favor. But maybe super star is not the wright word, but playing at the small schools is still playing and not setting the bench.
TB, I'm sure you have some good reason for your beliefs but here is my take. But first, I have to admit I am a little bias against schools less than4-A in reference to exposure. But I do agree that if you are good, they will find you some kind of way. Anyway, that same kid in 1-A will be competing against the kids from 5-A and 4-A schools. And the majority will not be big D-1 material. Which means schools like Lamar will be going after a few kids who have made a name for themselves from 5 and 4-A. That kid may be good for Spurger (sp?) but his skill level probably won't match up against the hundred of other kids at the same position and who have made a name for themselves and with a higher skill set.
I still stick to my guns about being a super star.Just because you transfer to a smaller school doesn't make you a super star.Your skill level will determine how much recognition you get.You may get more playing time at a small school but if you don't have the skills you will just be an average player. How many times should you let a kid transfer for more playing time? There are no guarantees he is going to get anymore playing time, what then? The UIL does a good job of attempting to keep folks honest which is what they are there to do.If a player has the skill to play college ball he will get some opportunities, the size of the opportunity will be directly related to the level of skill.
Good points!
Dove Sabine Pass Is a 1a team..And after the storm the UIL has allowed kids that live in PA to transfer. Not realy fair for the reat of the schools in 1a but thats the UIL for you. So if a kid is not quite good enough to make the 5a PM they can go to SP and be a star. So no one knows what they have this year untill the first game ;D But with what they lost last year I only see them finishing 3 or 4 in this dist.
Thanks True, didn't realize the ruling after the storm.

It is now time for him to step outand run a program on his own, I think this guy would be a good fit for some local schools. Always good with kids and really tries to develop positive young men.
Could not agree with you more. As much as I would hate to see Ira leave Silsbee, I would love for him to get a head basketball position somewhere. Now that he has finished his degree, he can now fulfill that lifelong dream.
I'm very positive you know of some local schools in the area you could give him a good word. 8)

Sabine Pass is 2A or 3A. I didn't realize they had kids from PA transferring there until last year when I met a young man and he told me some PA students attend.
That's my point! Hardly anybody is filling the floor with the kids that will be the playmakers and even if they are, it's still a scrimmage! PNG and Silsbee participated in the Westbrook Scrimmage. Indians blown out by the brook, Then Png ties Silsbee. It meant nothing. Each team is tying to get the kids some experience in game type situations and running many different looks in the course of a continuous clock game AND rotating literally every kid they have that can bounce a ball. Basically, it's practice. See y'all when football is over for us.
I understand what you guys are saying and you are correct to a degree. But scrimmages let you know who can play the game and what strengths and weaknesses individuals and teams may have. The only big difference is that these games don't go in the books. Weaknesses are still seen even in a scrimmage game.
Well Nederland's Freshman beat HF's Freshman, our JV B team beat HF's JV team, and our Nederland's JV A team beat HF's Varsity by a landslide this past Monday in their Scrimmages. Nederland is on target for a great season even without the Varsity. But the Varsity is going to do well when they get their football guys in the gym and get all the plays lined out. Go NEDERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-X :-X :-X
Varsity - 20 min running clock
The only player I've ever seen from Vidor was a kid (white kid I think) with tatoos on his body about 2 years ago. But he's probably graduated by now. So your varsity beat Nederland in a scrimmage? Impressive. So you guys play Hamshire Fannett this Tuesday.

You guys kill me. But I gotta admit, I'm getting a little excited myself. Nothing like a little fire under your butt to produce.
You kill me. All I've done is supply stats, compare present players with past. Give my opinion who will start and why. I've posted the bad as well as the good. I stated I don't see Devon Lamb starting or playing major minutes and he lead the nation at the juco level in scoring at 27 PPG. I have stated I believe they will be fun to what but I have not stated anyone will be All-Conference including heralded newcomer Mike James. I have not stated where I think they will finish in the conference and how they will play if they make the SLC tournament this season. As for other posters I haven't seen them talking about a conference championship, All-SLC players or predicted a record for this team. BTW, I've seen Coach Tubbs at both scrimmages and AD Coach Tidwell this past one. They looked like they liked what they saw in the scrimmage.
Everybody a little gun-shy to start predicting right now. I just hope I can find some time to see them this year. -

Al is out of Akron area. Played ball and works in the recruiting process. The five points mentioned above have been tried and tested from my personal experiences and a couple of other players I've known. Which is why I found his process interesting because it hit so close to home. Except for the DVD and summerball notes. DVD had not been invented at the time ;)

Hopefully the following information will be helpful to some parents and players. Feel free to add any other helpful strategies. Al Woods helps kids get scholarships and he does it no charge to the parents. It's all about getting your name out there. I used some of these same strategies for me (way back in da day) and they do work: 1. List 100 college programs that are in your home state or in neighboring states. 2. Write to each coach on your list. Make it hand-written. 3. Have a DVD made. Woods says this is critical because most college coaches are not coming out to high school games anymore. 4. Follow-up. You gotta stay in touch. Let them know what you are doing on the court and in the classroom. 5. You must play your sports during the summer months because this is where college coaches will see you. Always play where there are college coaches in attendance. Anything else is a waste of time. ;)
