I don't currently live in Beaumont but I was born there, my parents lived and owned property there for years but honestly I didn't know I had to move back to have an opinion. If the folks that built and managed Ford Park haven't been able to make it profitable how do you you think the BISD could do it. I could understand a new gym if the ones there now were in disarray but that's not the case.Just a question here.If the gym would be for the kids who would the motel be for ???? As far as the Glen Beckits remark goes there isn't a racist bone in my body however a little common sense seems to associate some people with being racist these days .
AMEN
Racism is dead!
 2.
is it recruiting if the kid wants to go there - and his parents want him to go there AND they buy a house in the zone? thats not recruiting , thats a kid who wants to play in a good program. UIL needs to get a clue. Its always about the athletics, dont even know why they ask on the paperwork. they just need to keep collecting their paychecks in their ivory tower.
I think the problem comes in when the h.s. coach talks to a kid about playing for him. But I do agree with your points.
 3. Okay, it's the first official day of basketball practice and this will be my first year keeping up with high school ball in this area. I would hear from a coaching friend of mine about how the times have changed and how the parents play the political games in high school to get their kid on the 'A" team or off the bench to play. In competitive youth sports its known as "Daddyball" and I've become an expert at noticing parents jockeying for a position for their kid on a team. Daddyball is really prevalent usually when a dad is coaching his son or daughter, but school ball takes on a whole new level to influence a coach. Not only do boosters play a big part in college recruiting, but it's also happening at the middle and high school level. Some donate to the school in various ways. Anyway, lets enjoy this season and let your kid win his spot by his play and production, not by money and influence. Because if the kid is weak and exposed, everybody will know how they made it. Okay, I gotta go and prepare for practice this evening and get my seat early. I need to run by the bank and  donate a few dollars to the team for gear. Also let the coach see me with the other daddies and express my influence too  ;D  ;D

 5.
maybe some of these guys wont put up the stats i would of thought they could but the overall team will be fun to watch. reality isnt setting lamar wants to make the slc tourney and make some it will happen
As long as they are fun to watch, I'm happy.
 6. I see English more out of town than I do in S.E.Texas. He's getting his boys ready (the right way).
 7.

Do not have the support of this Beaumont taxpayer.
That's pretty much expected...  But I take it you supported the proposal to lay field turf in Silsbee, huh?  Expected as well...   ::) ::)
The money for the field turf in Silsbee is being raised, the way it should be. For the record I voted for the bond, and really think(thought) that BMT needed to spend money on schools and even supported the ''educational support center''. I however, don't remember a hotel/basketball arena being in the bond. Lot of projects left unfinished and if there is money left over it should be paid back against the bond principal or put into a rainy day fund. As I said before, the bond appears to have had a lot of slush money intentionally put in it for Butch and his cronies to spend as they wish. What about all of the other classroom related projects that were cut out of the original $800 mil. dollar bond proposal? I guess they really weren't important, huh? Oh well, I'm white and in your eyes probably a racist so what does my opinion matter, right?
Interesting...  Good  points...  And BTW, no one threw the race card in here...  Don't accociate me with those kind of folk...
Alright Soulja, sorry about lumping you in with those kind of folks. I shouldn't have and I apologize.
I ain't mad at cha. Wanna throw race in? Go ahead. You folks do it all the time ;)
 8. I can definitely see some reality is beginning to set in for some of you guys. Guys, let me give you a little secret on a whether or not I go see a particular movie. It's got to have an appeal. In other words, I look at the gross receipts to see if the movie is consistenly making money after the release. Oh heres another example. I remember when I was much younger, I didn't date a girl unless I knew others were attracted to her. Sounds shallow huh? Well remember, I was very young at the time. Well anyway, where was I ??? oH YEAH! Were these players highly recruited from high school and JUCO? Like I have said in the past, LU has had a problem overselling their recruits for many years now.
 9.
Two more? Some of our area teams have probably 5 to 6 games or possibly more. But I see that you are just speaking of HF. ;)
Man, that was so wrong to put us out like that  :D :D
 10. Two more  football games to go for the season....I'm like the little piglet in the commercial....we-e-e-e-e-e--e!  ;)
 11. Hamshire Fannett 7-A is probably one of the best offensive football machines in this area.  :P

Funny thing is that their not even from Beaumont...
So Soulja, are you saying that since I don't live in your neighborhood that I shouldn't warn you if someone was trying to steal your car or break into your house?
BISD ain't stealing nut'n nor break'n into your house.
 14. God, a bunch of Glen Beckitis on here spewing out words. Talking loud and saying nothing. :D
 15. They aint using your money. I like the idea of a Hotel/Restaurant program for our area high school students. It would fit right into Lamar's degree program
 16.
Why in the world would a high school district entertain a motel chain and a convention center, this should be a city function. The BISD needs to go back to trying to educate kids which is (or should be ) their sole function.
To help the area economy. To help bring in more room space for all the sporting events that will come to the area. And to help SETXsports report more sports and get more advertising ;D
 17. Granted, there is now a thin line between specialization versus playing multiple sports. The environment within youth sports dictates that kids specialize now. You can see the difference in kids who play select sports and those who don't. Football has become specialized too. I saw some beasts this summer playing 7 on 7 football at a national tournament.
 18. Oh! Oh! The Conference Commissioners Association voted 31-0 at its fall meeting recommending eliminating July men's basketball recruiting beginning in 2012 to the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. D-1 coaches may be sitting on pins and needles sweating this out for awhile.
 19.
Why would you dedicate to "your sport".  How about dedicating yourself to your school and your community.  How many kids that "dedicated" themselves to a sport actually make it.  Kids should enjoy the whole high school experience, but these days they are not.  I can tell you from experience that Friday nites are fun, but there is nothing that can beat a Friday nite during the playoffs.  Kudos to the Trevin Sonnier's and Quentin Evans's and the likes who do what they can to support their respective schools and communities.
Aren't we talking about the same thing here? Dedicate = become better=winning school tradition=happy community. To make the playoffs, you better have some good darn toot'n athletes who will buy into the coach and his system.

Sad but that is what Butch does.
Did you complain when Bud Leonard Stadium used Houston contractors?
Don't display your lack of knowledge here dove.  This center that BISD is building is OUR LOCAL TAXPAYERS MONEY.  We funded it and no one else.  BISD has made plenty of mistakes throughout so it is obvious to question them. On the other hand the Lamar Stadium was largely privately funded but also funded by the STATE.  Not local.  Anything else?
I don't think Butch World is a mistake. It adds value to BISD's educational support system. It will bring in extra dollars to the economy in several ways. BISD is definitely managing your monies to the fullest.

Cannot host regional tournaments on a home teams floor....must be a neutral site.
Duh! Regional meaning teams from regions located outside of Region 5..... ::)
Region 5?? There are only 4 athletic regions, I-IV. Southeast Texas schools are in Region III. You must be speaking of the educational regions.
Yep, I was thinking about the educational regions.
 22.

Championships are made during the summer. I'm sure the HF coaches are preparing for the future right now. It's all about playing for pride from this point.
Yes, the realignment has hurt the smaller schools (HF, HJ and OF). The OF and HF teams of the 70's and 80's would have competed and beat the teams of WOS, Silsbee and Bridge City of today. The reason is back then we was mentally, physically and tougher than the teams of today. Not to mention we was in way better condition. Can the smaller schools compete? You bet they can but not on a regular basis. You say summer workouts is what championships are made of. Back in our day there was no planned summer workout. We all had jobs so we could buy a car, fix a car, put gas in our car and take a girl out on a date in which we paid for not our parents or the girl. Times have changed and I realize that. But IMO not for the better. I promise you this, the teams from the 70's and 80's (OF and HF) would beat the teams of today ( OF and HF) by a lot.  We did not have better athletes back then either.
"Back in your day" is long gone and times have changed since those ancient days. Back in your day you could find kids at the park or in their neighborhood playing sports. I don't know about you but I haven't seen a game in a park or neighborhood in a long time. If you want to compete these days, you have to monitor your social life and time. And dedicate to your sport. If you just want to play the game and be average, thats okay too.

If, IF, they can come together they have a chance at SLC tourney. Deepest and most talented team Roc has had by far.
I have heard this every year for 5 years.  Hope it is true this year.
:D :D I concur other than it's seems every 4 1/2 years
