Actually, not every player on that team could get a scholarship. The subs were pretty good h.s. players but only a couple will get future scholarships...in the state tourney, there was definitely a drop off of talent when the subs went in...Wise could not go 5 in and 5 out like he did in regular season. But those first five were impressive...Also, not sure about the grade remark..Saw a kid from P.A. play at Tx. this year that did not graduate with his class...It's amazing how they " find a way ".
Simple! it's the 10% rule used. -
As a pro, Bosh is an Allstar PF and Perk is one of the better Centers in the league. Perk doesn't get the shots bosh gets and his role is completely different. But back to the State game which is what the argument is about. Below is a quote used by the official site for Texas Basketball State championships! "The final matched two future NBA stars, 6’10†Sr Chris Bosh of Lincoln and 6’11†Kendrick Perkins of Ozen, in one of the greatest individual match-ups in the history of the state tournament. However, Lincoln routed Ozen by 20 points utilizing a press and half-court trap that forced 27 Ozen turnovers which the Tigers turned into 39 points. Statistically, Bosh and Perkins fought to a draw." Stat Line: Bosh with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 7 blocks, 2 steals and 2 assists Perkins with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks and 1 assist Perk had that kind of Stat line and his guards could not get the ball across half court. 27 Turnovers! It is amazing to pull that Stat line when you can't even touch the ball. Over half of Bosh's points came off fast breaks when the ball was turned over!!!
Ozen guards were scared to death. Ball was like a hot potatoe to them -
I liked the aggressive play of Lamar and how they attacked the basket against a taller and deeper team. As others have said, a little more depth on this team would have made a difference. And with San Diego State beating Texas, they would have had a good shot at the sweet 16 if they would have won. On a related note, Tidwell has done in 3 years what Roc hasn't been able to do in 4. The SLC is a very weak conference so Tidwell does have that slight advantage over Roc, but both were known as great recruiters. Tidwell has been able to bring in some real good talent while Roc hasn't.
Ouch! Feeble fans in here. :D -

Up until recently, HF has always put a competitive team on the field. They may not have won but have been competitive until the last few years. The right guy can turn the program around. You've got to get all of the ends tied together to be successfull. It is not going to be easy but it can be done.
I agree, this is an opportunity for a coach to get some great recognition for turning the HF program around and bringing them back to what they used to be
It's a great opportunity for a coach to step up the ladder. -
This is a very touchy topic. But how many teams out there can say that they are as talented as Yates? I played at Oak Hill Academy with Ron Mercer back in the mid 90s and we blew teams away as well (yes even some by a 100). Coach Smith sat us down and told our bench to go in and work on our system. Hey they scored just as much, and that wasnt our fault! Yates played all of its players and those bench guys came in and were just as good, that isnt their fault. We were taught to play the game, and coach wise teaches his players to play the game. Yates has a lot of talent and their system happens to be a very helter skelter type system. That system is embedded in those players and thats all they know so starters and bench players both play with that same intensity. Come on now guys what do you want them to do, throw the ball out of bounds every play? Sure coach wise isnt our so called "good guy" but honestly the kids who hav played for him are very talented players who hav went on to further there careers in college, and isnt that what it is all about? There is alot of a**hole coaches out there with good programs, we dont have to like them but hey we cant hate on success! :)
I'll excuse you for being the "A" word ;) But the Bluedove gotta agree with you 100%. -
