Unlike college and professional football programs, high school coaches have what they have, period. You know the old saying you can't make chicken salad out of chicken.....? Well you know the missing word. No disrespect to anyone at HF intended. And like I said earlier, in the two games I saw in person this year, HF was outmatched in talent, size, and speed, it was that simple. Therefore, it is unfair running off two AD's in 3 years, and its is no way to "build a program, no matter how bad you think they are as a coaches. Which time was administration wrong when they hired them or when they fired them?? Because they do have blame now, anyway you look at it.
Sometimes you gotta look at yourself and realize you ain't as pretty as you thought you were ;)

However, coaches should "COACH" the existing pool and take them to the best of their ability. Do you honestly think that is being done?
"Best of their ability?" Interesting comment! Let me ask you a question hfresident, or you can ask me the next time you see me and I promise you I can be more honest in person. How do you measure "best of their ability?"
Huh? You say running off the coaches is not the answer. You physically can't change the group of athletes that are in the program, but, the existing athletes can be "coached" to a higher level. Even the best athletes have something to learn. So, what is your solution?
I'm not saying you should or should not run off the coaches. But maybe the parents are asking for too muchbased on current talent pool. I've read numerous times how good HF was good in the 90's, but thats been awhile back now. I 've read about how HF has the talent and I am sure HF has some talent. But at what level? Bad coaches do win with talent. In order to know what talent you have you have to have a gauge or some reference points. Example, HF has had two coaches in football the past 5 years or more that I am aware of.. Is it the coach's fault that HF cannot match speed and athleticism with top teams such as WO-S and Silsbee?

Yates coach has a lot to learn in that dept.....
agreed
Yes! That is the missing ingredient here. Class.
Yates 3rd string could beat Lincoln's teams. Yates is just that good. Accept it! Again, you're not going to hold back the bench or their talent.

This is the problem I am having with this conversation. People are pointing fingers at the administration. And all these people yall have named who were at HF, LEFT. They left for a reason. Why? More money? Less talent coming in? I saw HF play Silbee this year. Get mad if you want at my comments but speed kills. HF team looked like they were running in cement football shoes. C'mon now, you can blame the administration all you want but you have to evaluate the talent you're working with also. We live in a culture where if the coaches are losing, then it must be their fault. Now, if there was a lot of true athletic players on the team and you're still losing, then you began to wonder whats wrong with the coach(es). I mean c'mom now, you can't keep running off coaches and blame them all the time. ;)

You certainly want an AD who is going to push the right buttons to help all the programs.
Dove, it would be wonderful if we could get Jeff Keener back. When he left, he had aspirations of a 5A school and maybe a college position. Now with a wife from Bridge City and two beautiful children, maybe his priorities have changed. Maybe he would want to bring the little wifey and kids closer to grandma and grandpa. He would be a good one to take our basketball boys to where they could go.
Keener is possibly going to go into Administration at GCM as a grade level Principal.
And there you have it! Nobody wants to come back. Problems deeper than most willing to admit.

This is a rebuilding year for Ozen and Coach Boutte said that Ozen wouldn’t be as good as years past no matter who coach this year.
It's a down cycle in basketball in Beaumont. Saw it first-hand when MeltonY was open and players who were headed to Ozen. Good players but not anyone who could carry a team. Many players had good hustle but lacked many basic fundamentals of the game.
I doubt Roc will be let go after this season because of the youth on the roster and also because a great deal of attention is focused on football right now. I am shocked at the lack of interest in LU basketball this year. I have fallen prey to the sam apathy. I have missed more games this year than any year in the last 15 since I have been back in Beaumont. Does anybody else think about the departure of Bubba Skelton after the 07-08 season as the beginning of the downward spiral of the the Roc regime. Skelton was the Mississippi connection that brought the best talent of the Roc era. The last Skelton recruit that I am aware of is Nabors who is our best player. Beyond recruiting I thought Skelton was a great bench coach who didn't mind disagreeing with Roc. How many times during his tenure did we see him directing the team during critical time outs while Roc watched over his shoulder or screamed at refs. I like our group of assistants personally, but none have shown they can bring in kids with the talent of the Skelton recruits and none have been able or willing to step into the fray to help Roc make better decisions during games. All that being said, I hope we win out and make some kind of a run in the conference tournament. However, I am not optimistic
I'm guilty too! I haven't attended one game this season. I didn't plan to miss any games. I lacked interest in keeping up with the team. They were fun to watch last year.
