OU has a very good team.
they've come a long way. this freshman kid has turned into a beast for them. if he'd been playing like this all season, they'd be a tourney team.
Tommy Mason-Griffith has been given the green light at OU to do his thing now. Thats staright from the coach ;)

Not that many. I am a coach and people don't realize how talented you have to be in order to get an athletic scholarship. I can think of 3 or 4, and D2, D3, and Junior colleges don't count. What people don't understand is at the 3A level it sometimes takes more than being the District MVP or making it to the state meet in a particular sport in order to get an athletic scholarship.
The only thing I disagree with in this statement is D2,D3 and JUCO don't count. You have to be a great player at the 3-a level to even get a look at these colleges. The only basketball player I can remember recently that even got a D1 look was Donahoe from HJ and he was state MVP.
Small D-1......LOOKS! You have to have some serious skills if you're 3A. -

Hamshire Fannett Basketball Program
The problems start at the middle school....coaches tell parents and players "We don't have time to teach basketball."
I think the coaches have time to teach plays and work on the defense. The shooting, dribbling, and passing (which is still a minor part of the game) has to done during the off-season. Now the one thing I admire the middle school coaches at HF are doing is to have open gym after practice till 5:30. I see some players take advantage to stick around and shoot, dribble and play 3 on 3, where you get addtional reps. -
Hamshire Fannett Basketball Program
Honestly, I think a major factor is HF doesn't practice basketball year round to my knowledge. Don't they just play in season? Thats a huge disadvantage if that is true. You have to build that comradery in the off season with your teammates and you have to constantly be getting better because everyone else is.
I'm not sure if they play together during the summer months. Maybe someone has an answer. -
Hamshire Fannett Basketball Program
BLUEDOVE3 replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It's very simple(but in some cases, impossible). HF has to change three things, the culture, the environment, and the mindset. They have to play the game more(culture), upgrade the practice and facilities(environment) and decide to make the basketball program a higher priority sport(mindset). Basketball is not played by many and not enough there at HF. They have to practice the game and enhance where they practice and how they practice. Most importantly, basketball cannot be 4th or 5th on the totem pole, it has to move up in the pecking order. Get those things set in place, you'll see improvement in the program. But like I said, in some places, that's impossible. ;)
Aggie, I think you have made some very good points. -

Coach Roc makes the coaching hotseat list
BLUEDOVE3 replied to UNLV's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Coach Roc will be back next season. He has a young nucleus of talented players that will continue to improve. His coaching staff is quality and experience. This is the right bunch of coaches to move the program upward, but patience and time is required. No coach could be more dedicated to LU than Roc.
Hmm? In other words, LU fans need to have 4 more years of patience. -
So what are the suggestions to get the athletic department more involved with communicating with the HF community and discuss common goals? I know for a fact the coaches don't like losing, what coach does? Maybe a townhall meeting with the athletic dept.

Hamshire Fannett Basketball Program

I was hoping one of the coaches or administrators would also respond to this thread ??? ??? ???what do you say guys? I know some of you read this forum. -
Okay, I want to put this out in the open and look at the various comments (pro or con) about the HF program. I am somewhat neutral because I know nothing about the program or the coaches. The only thing I know is that there is not a winning program in place, why? I'd like to hear from people and your thoughts on improving the program.

Georgetown doesn't match up with us IMO. I think wvu is overrated. But Nova has much better guards than Us and matches our depth. They could beat us. Cuse is very long and athletic. We struggle shooting at times so I think their 2-3 zone will give us trouble. Those 2 teams will give us trouble.
Tx will never get past Syracuse. Better hope they are in different regions.
texas could beat any team in the country, Syracuse included. If they played 10 times, i'd bet it'd go 60/40 or 50/50.
You would go and spoil your props I gave you from another thread >:( :(

It's really sad when you have talent on a team and they aren't "allowed" to play basketball until the fourth quarter when the game is already somewhat out of reach. I believe basketball is somewhat of a rhythm sport and you can't get into a "rhythm" just in the fourth quarter. It has to start in the beginning (first quarter) and continue through the end of the game. Yes, you have to allow room for error and yes you also have to correct some errors but I don't feel that one turnover or one bad pass or one foul or one missed shot is a reason to pull a player. If the broadcast is still up you can watch the Silsbee vs HJ game and see that there were numerous turnovers just in the first quarter/half on both sides but the "rhythm" set in and players settled down and got it together. I really hope a "change gon come" SOON at HF. Believe it or not the HF teams can hang with the best of them.
I think that if HF would have played some tougher competition before district it would have helped them out some. Take Legacy for example that is undefeated in district play HF will need to play some tougher competition if they want to compete with Silsbee & HJ List of a few teams HF played before district: Liberty Deweyville Tarkington Deweyville Buna Milburn Academy Sabine Pass Vidor It is hard to get in a rhythm when you are going up agianst something you have never seen before
Interesting point you make! I also felt HF's schedule was weak but maybe there is a reason why , and only the coach can probably answer this question.

Now if he had a lot of seniors on the team this year and was doing this poorly he'd definitely be gone at the end of the season.
I agree, he's not going anywhere after this season. -
