The Cards may need to evaluate the program so they can return to one of the elite teams in the conference.
UNLV, READ THE ABOVE VERY CAREFULLY!!!!
How is liberty looking? Kinda surprised Fitzwater is on Varsity! Nothing against him really, just i didn't think he was physical enough for the varsity game! But obviously the coach knows something that i don't!
I was impressed with one player Liberty had on their team. The big fella! -
Livingston's fresman group is pretty salty. They only lost one game in two years (and I'm talking about blowouts in their wins) to a junior high in The Woodlands that feeds into College Park and that junior high hasn't lost a game in 4 years. They have traveled every summer together and have won numerous tournaments together at the highest levels for them. They have competed in some national juniors tournaments as well. The point/wing player traveled with a Nike Hoops team out of the Angleton area last summer. He will probably be starting on their Varsity this year once he gets back from an injury he suffered early in football. That group has size, length and speed with plenty of basketball skill. They will cause some noise over the next few years because the grade behind them is probably just as good as they are. But, we will see how it works out as everyone matures out over the years.
I know the kid you're talking about that plays with the Hoops. Doesn't he play for the 14u (8th grade) Hoops? Good player. I'm not too familiar with Livingston's program they will will be a force in a year or two.
I agree, with you Blue. His stock has fell. He didnt have that good of year last year and an ok summer. He needs a real big year.
wow! You just made me realize that I didn't hear a word about him during the summer like previous summers. And I'm sure he played with a team this summer, right? I heard S.E.Texas Allstars' coach took a coaching job, so I'm assuming that was the only true summer team that got exposure from this area. If so, this really became a disadvantage for the kids in this area. -

It's a building process. You have to put the pieces together and it's not overnight. Thats why I keep repeating that HF can go to State IF they begin the planning process now. From Little Dribblers ( need to change name) thru middle school, there has to be a communication line with the high school coaches. It can be done but not overnight. And here is another issue that I've seen one other person bring up that I will mention again. Your better athletes are being recruited by other schools!! Off the top I can think of nearly 6-7 athletes who have options. C'mon coaches. -

Frank will need to have a good year to get back under the radar again and handle his academics. I predict prep school after this season for him. -

DeCarlos will probably end up having to attend a prep school after this season if he wants to continue to achieve at the next level. His stock has fallen in the radar services. -

Respect is something you earn. If we want respect, we need to earn it on the court. We do that by being competitive and beating some teams we are not supposed to. Once that begins to happen, the respect will follow automatically.
And the sooner that basketball players are allowed to practice their chosen sport more instead of doing "football like" preparations, the sooner the likelihood of achieving the above comes to pass.
Stevie! This is really becoming disgusting. I'm agreeing with you again!!!!!!!!!! :D -

Lonestar Sr. Superbowl Prediction
Hopefully HF learns from this. They are notorious for counting on one or two players to get the job done. I witnessed this first hand last year when they came to Nederland to play basketball. Maybe this is why their high school teams are not as strong as they could be. They always have great youth talent, but, they seem to disappear at the high school level. Those one or two great players in youth can't get it done by themselves at the hs level. The rest of the group, who didn't get their time or credit at the youth level, have given up by the time they get to high school or they have transferred to other schools. If HF wants to keep their talent for the long haul they better make sure ALL players get their ample time. I'm sure this football team got their fair share of playing time, but, it appears from this thread they counted mainly on this King kid. The youth are our future and we need to invest in all of them.......the great and the not so great. The not so great generally turn out to be a great surprise down the road. Don't overlook any child or you may loose them in the future.
First of all, you are making some very good points but let me add on to this convo. Yes, there are kids out there who are naturally gifted athletes pre-middle school days. And yes there are late bloomers. The problem with the gifted athlete at a young age is that they may not be taught to challenge themselves for the next level because it's always been too easy to score a basket or run a touchdown pre-middle school and middle school. Kids WILL CATCH UP! They will get big, bigger fast and faster. So basically, both groups have to work just as hard to continue or achieve success. The late bloomers must realize that they may have to work harder to reach that next level. You have to instill in them that it will take dedication and hard work to achieve goals. In other words, both groups don't have the time to rest on what happened in yesterday's game ;) -
