SETX High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point results
BLUEDOVE3 replied to Indian88alum's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
D1 meaning low mid-major, right? There is a difference you know. You could take a HJ player and sign him up to play at Midwestern or Eastern New Mexico (maybe?). But a Uof H or Memphis..nope! -

That would at least give them more time to find another applicant -
Hamshire Fannett dropping to 2A???
BLUEDOVE3 replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Uh, I believe Kountze and East Chambers would have something to say about that. Too bad I can't make any comments on this thought. Several people from East Chambers know me who are on the forum and I wouldn't want to predict anything within the 2-A district. ;D But that would be a good scenario for HJ, because they would have us out of their district at a crucial time when our ballers step into high school ;D -
IT WAS A FOUL! ;D

And this is why it's so important to have daddy to keep 'em in line. Yeah Dove, God knows MY daddy kept your butt in line!!! :D Yeah, and your grandmother lived about 3 blocks from me too.....sheez! My sister was *good* friends with coach's brother at one time........ Oh man let me stop. We're almost related :-X But you were a little whipper snapper (I've been in S.E.Texas too long..talking just like'em) -

grades and exposure... honestly i really dont matter what school he goes to if he cant be coached I agree, this is why I said yesterday, discipline will be the key to this young man's success. I've seen him in the gym numerous times and he does have an effect on the younger people. There were times when I wanted to go over and talk to him but it's my understanding he has a lot of older people already talking to him. I think he has a good heart. The key is finding the vehicle that works best for him and his comfort zone. I remember Stephen Jackson from Lincoln heading to Oak Hill Academy. I had the attitude that why is he going to Oak Hill? Can't he be successful at Lincoln? Sometimes, kids need to get away from their distractions in order to focus on more important things in their lives. -

Obviously more proof and worry that the HJ program is heading towards rebuilding their program within the next few years, or possibly sooner 8) -

I think the kid WILL get his diploma. He's just possibly delaying it for right now. -

Okay, this opens up another discussion as to why D. Frank would attend a prep school? Grades? Exposure? Extra year to develop? -

Ah, I was trying to allude to this matter yesterday about prep schools and getting kids from the *hood* to attend. Will a kid like D. Frank have the discipline to attend your school? I hear rumors the kid doesn't attend classes on a regular basis. I think the kid has too many distractions and maybe too many hangers-on. But he will need to figure it out for himself. Rules baby! -

And I predict ain't no kid leaving. When you're use to country living it's hard to give that up for the city lights when you're not use to them, plus immaturity. -
Joubert would fit right in with Ozen. He was always the 2nd choice anyway, behind TW

I don't see a problem with the way it's being handled. It's not like they have to go out and recruit. The kids are going to play for whoever they choose, because they will pick a good coach. Ozen has a crew of ballers coming through there for the next 4-5 years for sure. -
You can't please everybody. If BISD would have approved Saveat, then you would have have the other side say he got it because of his name and not his qualifications. There are some quality coaches who have applied for the position. They want to make sure they have the right fit to take them to the next level. But they are living in la-la land, because the road to Austin stops at 1-10 & Northwest Freeway (610 west )

Oh okay, Hamshire Fannett Little Dribblers have never lost to HJ High School
-
Actually, it would seem preferable to be neither shot or shot at. Dove, have you ever been the victim of a shot? In order to keep from getting shot at *OR* shot, I will refrain from any other comments. Please refer your derogs (*shots*) at Dickie V

See, tis better to get shot at than shot!

I REPEAT. I SAW the game played between Central and HJ at HJ and HJ WON. Deal with it. i repeat i played from 96-99 and hj never beat us Okay somebody is lying and I want the truth. But it is very hard for me to believe that HJ beat central in a regularly scheduled game of basketball.

What? How could it possibly be "dirty" money? The financial assistance is given through an outside agency and the school only provides the paperwork. What about the paperwork? Is it dirty? ;D No, it is not dirty either!! BLUEDOVE, did I answer your question? I take the heat off of you by coming back and THIS is the thanks I get!!! :D And I do appreciate it. But sometimes you gotta push the buttons to keep the enemy focused on your comrades. Tis better to get shot at than shot! -

Now that we have a local coach on his way to work at a major prep school in Houston, I was wondering about the game plan *our* coach plans to employ within his program for attracting inner-city youth ballers. And I'm speaking directly about the students who may be from a single-family home with mom, marginal academic success, but a gifted athlete. What will be your selling points in trying to convince a kid and mom to attend your school? Remember you have to factor in all the social behavior that comes with this process. For example, a kid having to walk to the bus stop in his neighborhood (jacket/tie) and hearing it from his homeboys in the neighborhood that afternoon. He will still face a lot of distractions fromwithin his own peers.

It's always hard to accept *change*. Sometimes *change* is good. Actually I've been kind of playing devil's advocate with this thread. One reason was because I was wondering if this kid was like a certain kid out of P.A. who has become somewhat of our poster boy for academic failure. I just can't picture a high school student-athlete dropping out of school unless his grades are already poor and he's not college material.
