  1. Thats good! Man if this kid only knew how many young players look up to him. He's already a "role model" in his community.
  2. Dickie V, I'm like your uncle son. Don't dispute me 8)
  3. Actually, some coaches only handle the paperwork. Don't recruit nor involved in a lot of coaching to the players. WHAT? No DOVE, that guy would be the Director of Basketball Operations...He cannot travel nor be on the floor in games or practices, but he coordinates travel and handles paperwork...There is not a staff in AMERICA, that will allow a coach not to recruit OR coach...not happening. I personally know a coach who sits on the floor but handles the administrative portions of the D1 team. They do teach in practice. In fact, me and the coach discussed this same topic this past Friday.
  4. Tony Branch! Dickie V, weren't you in the 2nd or 3rd grade when Branch was coaching here Nah jut joking, but I agree with your Tony Branch statement. Thats a whole new thread to deal with ....

  6. I think you raise some valid points here. The LB's is a good introduction to basketball for the boys. But you have to implement competitve summer programs for the boys. And there are several "elders" ;D in HF who take the time during the summer to get the guys in area tournaments. I hear there is an open gym in the summer but I'm not sure. If not, the coached definitely need to make this option available for players.
  7. Just curious but what schools were after Ang. She put up a lot of points in her district.
  8. Dickie! Dickie! Dickie! Do you honestly think a bona-fide D1 player with looks from UT, UofH, Memphis,Kansas, etc, etc, will attend Lamar because his high school coach asked him to enroll ??? Stay off the sauce
  9. Central was fine last year too!
  10. We could invite him to S.E.Texas apply for ass't coach.
  11. Lamar was getting "dogged" in the Sunbelt and the expenses and LOSING didn't look good on the balance sheets. Enough said!
  12. Staying in the Southland is like putting Lamar on the crack pipe. There was a study that came out a few weeks ago that said this area has an inferior view of it's self. The people in this area feel Beaumont should never better itself, Houston and Austin deserves anything new and innovative. That we are not worthy of any considered good. So there is loud voices screaming to keep the status quo. You can see it on this forum, you can see it in the Jefferson county leaders, you can see it when you look at the history of Lamar between 1970 to 1999. Thank Goodness Dr Simmons and the Legend is not of that mnindset. I may be having a senior moment but I seem to remember Lamar decided to go back to the Southland after several years of playing with the big dogs in the Sun Belt.
  13. Yep, I'll have to agree with your assessment.
  14. The Dove is always on the winning side
  15. Granger played at TSU some years back and obviously wanted to be back at his old school. Retaliation from HISD coaches? In what way? Retaliation in not sending their kids to TSU, encouraging other options..Yes I know that this would be a crazy thing to do, because they are only hurting kids potentially, but people can be something else you know.... Oh okay! Yeah I could see this happening if those kids had other offers to choose from.
  16. Actually the coaches would be in the area because of the Kingwood Tourney.
  17. Oh okay, you're a Jag fan. Sometimes bad news is hard to take.

  19. I personally know a few people you mentioned in your thread and without trying to be too one-sided, I think Granger knew the situation at TSU but never took into consideration the gamble he would be taking. Especially with Blackwell being on the hot seat for so long. After the President was fired, Blackwell's days were limited as AD @ TSU. Granger should have at least tried to get something in writing at that time. For those of you not familiar with some names, Blackwell was a former running back with the Cowboys and K.C. Chiefs.
  20. It's possible they look at the schedule and the player's talent.
  21. I've often heard grumbling from loyal supporters of SETex sports how many players are overlooked by the local recruiters. My question is this: Does the SETex region have the talent pool to support a Senior Showcase for the graduating seniors. The Showcase would be approved by the UIL and NCAA for attendance by D1 & D-11 coaches. Like anything else, there are pros and cons. Some thoughts.......................................Comments are welcomed * The event would have to be scheduled around a major event ( i.e.Kingwood Tournament). * Players would be All-District selections only or nominated by a college coach * Could Beaumont sustain such an event based on the location? * Maybe include Louisiana players?
  22. Just got in my updated reports that Wheatley will have one of it's tallest teams compared to yesteryear's. This will obviuosly have an affect on the two Beaumont schools as they duck- n- dodge their way through Regional play-offs this coming season.
  23. Actually the weather forum was exciting compared to high school basketball right now
  24. WOW! I went to the weather forum and watched videos of lighting hitting objects. SETEX Forum HAS EVERYTHING. Well at least it was more exciting than the NASCAR forum ;D
  25. I like the H-F program because you have some dedicated individuals who teach the game to the girls at an early age. But you're right, volleyball does interfere with basketball :'(
