You Southeast Texas guys kill me! You said the same thing about Billy Tubbs coming back to Lamar. "The building will be filled now." Oh Please! Winning will be only thing to get fans into the stands. But I guess I have to admire your hope and feelings from the past days long-gg gone. -
Dang, thats what I've been saying but I guess Mama always have more bang than daddy. Thank you!Thank you! People will come to see winners.Heres a suggestion. Try and schedule more D-1 schools in the future. Thats a good start.

Dickie, I was taught basketball by one of the best (your dad). D. Frank is good. I'm just a little bias against Ozen and it's history with their guard play. I think Frank and the Ozen system does Frank no justice. Anybody can play in that system, but I think Frank is like a race horse. The boy will shine when you take him out to run and create for himself.
-
The jury is still out on D.Frank. I've never been impressed with any of Ozen's guards. I think most of them have been good high school players in a system that hides their flaws.Their weaknesses are especially exploited during playoff time....hehehehe!The Brain has a point. All you have to do is get in his face and he can't deal emotially with the pressures of the bump and hit defense
-
Oh okay, the Hoops 17 & under are good this year.
-
Which Hoops team (grade?)
-
I predict D. Frank has hit his growth spurt ;D
-
Lamar would be a good fit for any true baller. D. Frank is the real deal and I usually don't give props unless it's the real deal. Frank played in the Ice Breaker in Houston. Dickie, have you heard any pros or cons about the Ice Breaker this past weekend? The kid is definitely getting exposure outside the Bmt. market.
-
hahahah! Dickie, are you reading my mind-dddd?????? Sheez!!! You are truly a guru.

Hmm? I seem to remember that the offer came later after no serious bites from the major D-1 schools came through. A lot of these kids need to realize they are not D-1 MATERIAL AND STOP LISTENING TO bad advice from their advisors..........................
-
I use to watch Luke play at Finnegan Park in 5th Ward of Houston. But what was your dad's name ??? ;D

That is real talk Teamfirst... Mathews did really well at Tennessee State and was on the verge of a Pro career but his height caused some concerns being only 6'7" at a small college. John Mertz from LCM came back to Lamar but couldn't crack the starting line up.... I have noticed a number of kids that comeback and tryout after all is said and done but Lamar needs to sell that campus and all that growth to these area kids... Over a four year period Lamar could pick on or two Jewels and work on them... Kids they recruit from Sophmores..... Too many of our kids leave the area and have decent college careers elsewhere... Edward Garrett, McNeese; Skip Jackson, Texas State; Hancocks (3), NWS, all wound up at other Southland Cnference Schools... They could have been good for Lamar and the AREA dID THESE KIDS APPLY AT lAMAR? Did LU ACTIVELY RECRUIT THEM? Lu wanted Donoho (sp?), but the kid wasn't interested at the time. C'mon now, like most kids, they are wanting to play at the big named schools. And I'm talking about the super-athlete. If for example D. Frank maintain good grades and scores, there is no way he will look at playing at Lamar. Thats reality. Now if you are talking about the kid in high school who had decent skills, then thats another story.

OK this will be fun!!!! '90s and 2000s

Hmmm? That second team may be debatable with the Houston guards -

Wow! Out of all the players and the few schools in the area, you would think there would be some categories with several names debatable for induction. Now does this show the lack of talent in the area or not? SOC ah-hem! ( State Champs) would never have this problem SOC's is in the Metro-Plex dude... Cut the bull... I just tried to name the best that I remember... So there are guys out there that are just as good... Like I said someone needs to do there city or expand on my pics! Look dudess(?), you missing my point about what I said about Beaumont. The SOC reference was in jest. And I still say, with all the players that have came through, there should be more on the list, or does this show a lack of competitive competition in the area? -
I have to agree with Horn. There are some athletes coming thru H-F and in a few years will really enhance the program

Lamar officials aren't dummies. They realize they can't recruit/compete against the big D-1 schools for GOOD TALENT. The problem is that many of us don't know what GOOD TALENT is. Just because a kid scores 30 points a game in high school does not mean he can play at the next level. I remember back in the day when Lamar would recruit players and their press releases would sound like a player was all-world from his high school. But I began to wonder if the kid was all-world, then why was he signing with Lamar. I use to wonder if the player profiles were somehow "doctored up" to present a rosier pix of the player (s).

Hmmm! You had a kid from HJ back in the early 90's (?) and I think his last year LU made it to the NCAA and played Duke (?). Attendance didnot rise because he played at LU. But back to Donahoe. He's a good example of a player who is/was good but not for a major D-1 school, which was probably one of the problems in his case. Everybody is not a major D-1 just because you are a star at your local high school. There is nothing wrong with the LU's, SFA's, etc. to play ball and get a degree. You are talking about Kenyan Spears and he was not the star but that was the year Lamar had the most local talent playing for them... They had Thadeous Holden and Louis Arline both of silsbee playing... The season wasnt like this one... Lamar got hot at to start the season, went cold and finished seventh to in the Southland then won it all... They were led by 6'8" Landon Rowe SF... Both Holden and Spears started and the area was there at every game... They had some of there best years of attendance during that time... The program was virtually new to the Southland... They had just left the SunBelt in '98... You solidify the arguement more that they need local talent there for fan base and the fact is that they compete well too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only Southland Tourney Championship included three home town kids... And go back to BB Davis and Gulley and you got the last time they were ultra competitive and a sweet sixteen birth.... With LOCAL TALENT Lamar was at their best! Here's a trivia question: Where is Kenyan Spears now? Isn't he still an assistant coach at LU? wELL at least we know how much you keep up with the local LU basketball ;D
-
Dang, finally someone with some common sense on the subject. Back in BB Davis days, recruiting was much easier. Now, kids have to shiw some sort of academic progress along with bball skills.
-
It's not the reality of the game fellas. You're living in a dream world or staying in S.E.Texas too long. Get out and read a major newspaper, watch the national news, etc, etc, bah-hhhh. If you are a good D-1 player, you are most likely NOT to attend a school like LU. These guys are looking at places & competition way beyond what schools like LU offer.

It has nothing to do with local talent. I've seen the same complaints for the last *&^% years. Lamar has a full house when they play teams such as Texas A&M, Univ. of Texas, Univ of Houston (get my drift?). It ain't got nothing to do with local talent and attendance. Name a local talent who brought fans to the stands? C'mon people, people love winners.
-
People need to respect my team. We won State and I knew we would from the beginning ;D

G-R-A-D-E-S.....He will not qualify academically for D-1 at graduation...He will have to go to JUCO, and there is nothing wrong with that, if he goes there, handles his business, and moves on...We must stop making kids feel like D-1 is all there is...Go to college (D-1 or D-21, matters not), GRADUATE, and go to work...That should be the emphasis, NOT what schools are LOOKING at him..Because at this point thats all they can do is LOOK, because he is not yet qualified. Whoa...whoa...I thought you had to have good grades to go to Ozen DickV. You know since it's a magnet school and all. They only accept kids with high GPAs and in good academic standing right? Personally, I wish the kid all the best and hopes he signs with Lamar. I think it would be a good fit. Plus he could help his home team get back to the top of the mid majors where they belong. Lamar is in a mid-major conference? Wow!

Well, Hamshire-Fannett's 7th grade won District this year. Maybe they can give the high schools more than they can handle for next season
