*Ozen vs. Brazosport Playoff/OZEN WINS BY 1/COMMENTS*

It's the playoff baby! Ozen hasn't been tested in that weak district. It's going to get tougher. -

The LU basketball have a winning streak and I noticed there was about 4,000 in attendance. There is nothing to do in Beaumont on Thursday nights. Yeah I'll probably attend some football games if it comes back. -

I agree with your statements 100%. AAU is good to gain exposure and prepare for the next level. But this is what you have to be concerned about and I see it often. Some of these kids are good are at a very young age and people are already in their face giving them props. And I'm talking about kids who are not in high school yet. Somebody needs to be there to make sure that kid understand he still has to study, go to school and take out the trash. I also feel a player should keep improving on his/her game, because kids mature at different times. Additionally, there is no way a son of mine is going to act a fool by taking off his shirt during a game without him already knowing the serious consequences he is going to face when I see him next to me. I'll beat that a&^zz! -

Excellent points. Good points! AAU ball isn't designed for development. It's designed for kids who already have skills to go out and perform. I think a lot of coaches fear AAU because of the seemingly constant threat of losing some control over their players. There are some kids who do not play high school ball but only AAU. Now don't get me wrong, all of you have very valid points. -
Wow! At least I have the experience of playing both sports and can compare the two. Both are skill sports. But as far as youth sports, you can hide little Johnny in right field and place him 8th in the batting order to hide his lack of skills, and it won't hurt the team as much. Momma and daddy still thiniking Little Johnny is the star of the team.

Look, if Lamar officials had listened to me years ago, the program would have been back by now. You guys could have had a team of walk-ons without scholarships. Played D-111 and enjoyed football. The last year you had a decent team and your fan base was still weak. -

Wow! Not one time have I brought out any discussion about my kids and basketball on this thread. And I don't think I mentioned that I played basketball ( or did I?), but I did say I played baseball. So I don't think there is anything for me to get over. But back to the conversation. I really do like youth baseball. I just wish it would start in the June and end in July ;D

Barbers Hill vs. LaMarque Predictions?
BLUEDOVE3 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sheez! I know it's going to look like I'm taking up for Dickie, but I don't think he's an internet bully. Ain't no punks in his family. Coach wouldn't raise a punk son. In fact Dickie is quite a character in real life too..hmmm Atlanta, Ga baby! hmmmm? ;D -
I don't watch pro basketball. It's too boring. My only point to this thread is that I get tired of you baseball parents bragging on your sorry little sons about how good they are. It's the kid's last hope because he's not good in other sports. Just watch the game and have fun before you fall to sleep in the stands ;D

The only people happy to see baseball season begin are the parents of the players and the pillow manufacturers. After the 2nd inning people tend to nod off to sleep.

Oh-hhh the seniors. Okay. Well our seniors last year weren't that good. But it is kind of hard for me to swallow that OF does better in basketball than HF, SHEEZ! -
Mike stopped playing ball for years. If he had continued playing ball, he may have done better. But I was also referring to youth baseball. I'm just saying baseball is a good sport for those kids who are not as athletic to play the more serious sports ;D

Good point! Some kids now don't play high school basketball and the college scouts are looking at them. But people need to understand another side of this scenario. There are teams trying to get to Vegas to play in the tournaments there. But end up in some gym off the main highway of college recruiting where nobody see them play. AAU stuff is crap!! Those players are learning NOTHING in the summer circuit and it becomes a pain to the high school coaches to break those bad summer league habits...It is ONLY good that they get to play in the summer time and that is it, but heck, they can PLAY in open gym every day so if you ask me, AAU is a way for the wanna be coaches to attempt to exploit these kids for their own personal gain..Then try to take credit for what that high school coach has done all along..They make me sick!! > This is the reason why I like AAU ball and yes there are some coaches whoo ride the coattails of players, but some high school coaches have been known to do the same thing with their players. I remember asking a very highly successful player last summer what was the biggest advantage for him going to Houston to play AAU? He said because he played so many games under pressure situations and so many different style players, when the high school season rolled around, it was easier for him to play the game. The game is truly different when you play AAU compettion vs YMCA/Rec leagues. -
I use to play baseball and made the all-stars in little league/pony league. Baseball is okay. Basketball definitely has a higher skill level to obtain and far more challenging

Didn't our juniors play OF last year in the Kountze warm-up tourney or am I getting you guys mixed up with another team from that area? nah, it was you guys. I hope OF get the regionals and HF is invited. Better than going over a 100 miles somewhere else just to win ;D -
ARE YOU SICK OF HEARING HOW GREAT BH BASKETBALL IS

I'd like some bragging rights. I am in La Marque Texas about twice a week for basketball. I'd love to brag how good BH is. -

yep! Actually I played baseball as a youth and still love the game. But I've run into too many parents bragging on their kid's baseball abilities, agter failed attempts in basketball.

I predict Hamshire-Fannett will win junior regionals ;D -
I don't know if he is a stud or not but from the way he took control of that last shot, he definitely have some balls for the game. The average kid would have thrown the ball to another player and not accepted the responsibility of winning the game for his team. I'm actually curious as to what he does during the summer. The thing I have noticed about a lot of the big-game players is that they play in a constant pressure cooker called AAU. That kid was in too much control to just play ball in Chambers County.
