1.

Kelly getting back on the winning track did nothing for them! I am still 100% sure they are better than every team ahead of them besides Kountze.
Since the rankings are not comparing apples to apples, they should be based on the 'eyeball' method rather than wins/losses, IMO. Hard to do when there are so many teams to watch for consideration of the rankings. Nobody has seen Crosby or Humble play more than one game a piece, yet their number of wins place them high in the rankings since they were both 15-1 in district. I guess Crosby is ahead of Humbe bc they won the coin flip for the 1st seed! ;D Humble won at Crosby early in district. Crosby won at Humble late in district, so Crosby is AHEAD by two spots. Ozen won at Ned early in district. Ned won at Ozen late in district, however Ned is two spots BEHIND Ozen. Ned also beat Silsbee twice, yet Silsbee is ahead of Ned. Also , HJ beat Ned, yet HJ is behind Ned in the rankings. They don't always make sense, but I realize they are just opinions. Kelly will never have a chance to prove they are better than the other schools bc they won't play this year. Again, way too hard to compare apples to oranges. Now that the playoffs are here, everyone has a chance to prove how good they really are! 8)
Crosby finished second because we lost AT Humble by two points and won at home by 12. Looks like y'all proved their point anyway with an 8 point loss to the 3rd place 20-4a team.
 2. Come on SC, y'all have nearly twice the kids Ozen does. Don't tell me Sharp is all y'all got over there.
 3. Looks like Crosby gets Connally, probably in College Station like we got Manor in the football playoffs. Well, we beat them down in football but 20-4a returned the favor to 19-4a in basketball this year going 3-1 in the bi-district. Hopefully we get a chance to take another 20-4a team out later in the region.
 4. Good job PN-G. That's one of the worst games Crosby has played this year, should have had that one by at least 15. Going to have to play a whole lot better to beat Connally or Huntsville.
 5. I still have more work to do but here's the preliminary watch list. As I told y'all last year when people said I was off my rocker, the initial Texas top 100 has come out for the 2014 class and Tony Brown is the #1 recruit in the state and the first five star from the SETX just like I said he would be. DeShawn Washington is a very respectable #17 and was the best d-lineman I saw last year along with #76 at SC who was vertically challenged unfortunately. [Hidden Content] *Other FBS recruits will be Jordan Feuerbacher (TE) from Kingwood Park who already has a Texas State offer and should be picking up one from UTSA after his junior day on 2-16. Austin Walter (RB) from Crosby has been invited to Northwestern's junior day next month. The most highly recruited pass catcher in the bi-district should be Raelon Singleton (WR) Crosby but Torrey Johnson should recieve an offer also. Aaron Sharp and Dakota Allen (LB) should round out the FBS offers for SC. Garrison Mitchell at Central might also be on some FBS radars too.
 6. I'll just say this. How many people are lining up for that Ozen job. You have disadvantaged kids in dire straits who's only opportunity to change the direction of their lives before reality slaps them in the face is the gridiron. I was at the game he over-practiced for and what I took from it is that the kids played extremely hard for four quarters and there was intense passion on the sidelines coming from the coaching staff. I'm not going to say "if you ain't cheating then you ain't trying" but we used to leave school to practice in the Dome and what do you know, there were other teams there too. I want my coach pushing my son to the limits of legality, otherwise I would feel he's being cheated. I put Nelson right up there with Claude Mathis in getting the most out of kids in a difficult situation. I don't live in the Triangle though so someone let me know if I'm off base with those thoughts, I just know what i saw last year.
[Hidden Content]   So to make it FB related.... wonder how many schools are gonna try and secretly recruit the FB players...  :o
Some of those kids might end up in Sheldon ISD (King) since the district lines are actually closer to Mesa where NF High School (Smiley) is. Makes more sense to bus the kids a few miles down Tidwell vs all the way to Furr where I'm sure some will end up.
I'm on turnaround right now April and half the trailer is from Dayton. Besides the usual Bronco bravado they're not too excited about this season. They don't think they have the right coaching staff in place to put it lightly.
Never left, just been checking on here the last couple of days to see where the kids are going to school. I'm not going to pick with you now because there will be plenty to say with y'all falling back into mediocrity. I'm expecting the usual 4 or 5 wins for the Pirates next year. Look at it this way Pennies, at least you won't have to get your teeth kicked in by those Humble boys again. We're tyring to win a 19-4a title in basketball right now and potentially be 29-1 the last two years in the district so football is secondary for the time being. Since you football team averages more than you hoop squad I'm sure you wouldn't know anything about that. Good luck with no Quirante, if you district is decent this year y'alls season should be over by October.
 10. 1. Summer Creek - deepest team in the district, best qb in the district, get their two toughest district tests (Crosby,Dayton) at home but if the defense doesn't tighten up some then the 500 yards of total offense Crosby put up could come with more points and a 19-4a title for the Cougars 2. Crosby - one lineman lost, two receivers lost, bringing back 8 starters on one of the most potent offenses in the region including over 4,000 yards returning in the backfield alone from the twins. Crosby also has the most highly recruited receiver in the district returning in Raelon Singleton. 3. Kingwood Park - got better as the year progressed and had a very young team. They have one of the top TE's in the state in Fauerbacher returning and don't make a lot of mistakes with their ball control offense. 4. Dayton - everybody says "it's still Dayton" but that may be a misnomer now. Dayton was deteriorating as the year progressed, they got stale on offense and all they yards they were giving up on defense turned into tds later in the year. The old regime is gone and so goes the discipline and maybe the playoff streak. 5. Barbers Hill - Dive plays can only get you so far. I know BH fans think they're defense was salty last year but they still suffer from the same issues that they always have which is no athletes that can pursue/play in space which the game is evolving to. 6. C.E. King - as far as overll athletes go in 19-4a it's SC, Humble, and King. That being said if Price can't put a system or get the kids to buy into it then he might be out of work again in a couple years. Could be hard times for the kid I though was the second best rb in the district in AJ Jeffery. 7. Humble - I still can't believe they're that weak in football. At least there's basketball in which they handed Crosby their first and only district loss in two years. 8. and 9. Porter/New Caney - does it really matter?

Hope you've got a minute . . . . or 16 since it is the offseason. [Hidden Content]
every time i watch this he looks even smaller, he looks like a mini-Darren Sproales.
If you watch the film he actually looks significantly bigger from his sophomore to junior year. His measurable's are very similar to some of the more successful smaller backs when they were in high school. 1. Jaquizz Rodgers - [Hidden Content] 2. Darren Sproles - [Hidden Content] 3. Quintin Griffin - Aldine Nimitz, can't find his high school measurable's but you know how small he was and what he did in the Big 12 especially to UT and A&M. Did well for the Broncos for a while too. There are also guys like LaMicheal James and Ronnie Hillman who had great college careers and play in the league now as well as "the little iron man" Warrick Dunn who played forever it seemed like. If Waymon James at TCU wouldn't have gotten injured this year I think he would be on the NFL radar as an undersized back out of 4a Sherman High School that had similar numbers to Austin. He's going to put on at least 20 lbs in a good college program just like all these other guys did. This kid as well as his brother who I think is the better pure football player are absolutely legit, they're not doing this in Northern Mexico like Wes Danaher or Bobby Gonzalez.

 13.
WOS lost to a team that dominated 3A the point of bringing up the 6 turnovers is to say this. Navasota beat WOS 38-7 even tho we had all those turnovers.  Nobody else they played had more then 2 turnovers.  And they all still got blown out. And if Navasota did that to WOS then is it safe to assume the rest of the Golden Triangle didn't have a chance.? And also Tony has plenty of athletes at ozen.  Also yes WOS has and elite secondary an that helps kids making ints sometime. But some of you guys need to watch the wos kids film a lot of their picks are while they are man to man coverage. Here's SMU commit Jmarcus Rhodes of WOS 6'2 185 cornerback film compare his to Tony you will see Rhodes is a physical ball hawk that plays with passion. [Hidden Content]
The dbs from La Marque actually looked better on the film I watched, at least they could stay close to the receivers and they're rated about the same. I only saw Brown in person once but I was kind of taken back by how well he moved with that kind of length. When you lost by 31 to the best team on your schedule you can't throw in Bridge City stats to make up for it. Rhodes' numbers may look better but Brown did his work on PA Memorial, Vidor, Nederland, 3A-D1 champ Stephenville, and did the best job I've seen on potential Big 12 rival Realon Singleton who goes about 6'4" and nearly 200 lbs, the same kid who the next week looked like Randy Moss against state semi-finalist Manor's dbs. Brown is rated a lot higher than even Earl Thomas who cam out of Stark so unless you think the current WOS dbs are better than Thomas you shouldn't even make an argument 'cause the people that do it for a living think Brown should be better than them all.
 14.

JT is older than Brown! Give the guy some credit! You people amaze me! You have No idea how college football works! smh
I played college ball. But since you say JT is older then Brown I'll go this route compare Browns film to Deionte Thompson the sophomore safety from WOS this year. And I can promise you his film is better then Tonys. WOS just got a transfer from Ozen and the question was asked could Tony Brown play for WOS his response was "not in the secondary, probably rover or linebacker"
Tony Brown is an All-American db but can't beat out a sophomore in the secondary? The same kids that were roasted by Navasota? TB plays in an area where we don't have many pass heavy offenses so he's not going to get those big int numbers down here. He's pretty tall for a corner, has elite speed, and is very rangy which is excellent for batting down balls while you're out of position. Recruiting now is as much about what you do on the summer camp circut as it is on the field. Brown has a possibility to be the first five star (ESPN) I can ever remember from this region and I don't believe guys that pay their mortages by ranking and recruiting these kids are going to take a chance at ruining their reputations with a kid on a 4-7 team from Beaumont, TX. This is the type kid that Brown, Saban, and Sumlin only expect to be on campus for 3 years if he stays healthy. I've said it on several posts before, "this kid will be a millionaire by the time he's 21"

If you're not African-Amercan and your daughter walked in with a kid with dreadlocks and said she wanted to marry him and didn't play qb for Baylor then or the Skins now how would you feel? Probably like the girl's Dad I used to date at South Dakota State that referred to me as everything but my name. One game I had 16 carries for 145 and 2 tds on our rivals North Dakota State and afterwards someone asked Mr. K, "hey, doesn't your daughter date that guy that plays rb at state". I guess after that he was cool with it because he sent me VHS tapes of the new combine he bought and how it operated for some reason. Rob Parker wasn't that far off with his comments, that's why ESPN didn't initially suspend him. Those comments especially fit down here in the SETX, I'm 29 and most everything I've been taught or absorbed over the years was from older gentlemen (black and white) that passed down the ways they think.
Nice way to get your faded athletic exploits on the board Courgar.  So how does it relate?  Parker went off and deserves to be suspended and then fired.  Where does it say anywhere that so-called TV Sports Journalists can make derogotory comments about professional players?  What gives him that right?  And especially to throw the race thing in there.  I'll be 75 next month and I was born and raised in Texas.  That more than likely makes me a racist - not that all Texans are.  I've consciously tried in recent years to adjust my attitude and I have made some progress.  I know that things are different in the world and in Texas now than they were when I was growing up.  One must adjust to the times.  But I personally get set back by the stupid activity of the " Parkers" and analyses like yours.  I won't be around as long as you will, but I will still try to improve my attitude for as long as I'm here. 8)
Sorry if you think I was saying anything that happened to me to because you think I need some glory from my past or for that matter live vicariously through my sons, absolutely nothing of the sort. As usual I was giving a pertinent example that was taken out of context. Funny you think Rob Parker is out of line now but at 75 your still TRYING to change. I have no idea who you are but I can tell you were raised in a house where blacks weren't referred to as black and you just recently started trying to refer to us as black. Your calling me stupid for my analysis but yet can't spell the word. I bet given the opportunity you would "accidently" put a .243 center mass on Obama 'cause you think he wants to take away guns but yet still feel bad when someone can walk into a movie theatre or elementary school and commit mass murder. Have you adjusted to that? Of course not, that's why whenever you're around your buddies it still sounds like 1960.  Like your moniker says, you "usedtobe" a racist so don't get on your high horse now to try to make a point you didn't give a d*** about for the first 74 years of your life. As far as I'm concerned you can point your moral compass in a different direction 'cause there's a roadblock over here. *I'm glad your still here though, that way I can show my sons how it "usedtobe". Hopefully you're not here much longer so you and your conglomerate don't have to TRY to adjust anymore.
Well Cougar, you reacted but you didn't make a whole lot of sense in my opinion.  I didn't say anything in my post about "vicariously through your sons."  I didn't know you had sons.  Also, I was raised in a house that called Blacks "Negroes" with a capital N.  That was the prevalent and accepted identification at that period in history.  The people of color had not yet become "Blacks" nor had they evolved to "African Americans."  So what is your point there?  Check the dictionary: analyses is the plural of analysis.  It was the tense that I intended to use because had I used analysis it would have restricted my reply to your response.  I intended to have my response cover all responses like yours, hence the plural analyses.  On the gun thingy - I don't own a gun now nor have I owned a gun in my adult life.  The only gun that I ever owned was a 22 single shot that was a Christmas present when I was 14.  I don't remember what became of that gun but I know I don't have it now.  I don't know why I need to contact either school that your second thought pointed out.  Must have something to do with Parker but your point wasn't clear.  Elaborate if you need to and then, if there is any merit to it, I might contact the schools you mention.  With my age thing I was trying to confess some of my shortcomings.  Since you apparently have none, you did not recognize my response for what it was.  Cougar, we can keep this going - but you are ill equipped in this battle.
That's a decent explanation, I didn't know unicorns still existed though. It says "colored" on my Dad's birth certificate from the late 50's and "negriod"on my Mom's from the early 60's so I'll give you that even though it's extremely hard for me to believe people born 50ish years after reconstruction in the segregated south referred to blacks with words that started with N and didn't end in a consonant. These books and documentaries could be fiction though. I'm also more than equipped, my upbringing has allowed me to become more than average travel wise and my bachelor's degree in something other than kinesiology at least says I have the wherewithal to form an opinion that shouldn't be labeled "stupid" because it's not in line with yours. Just because you're nearly three times as old as me doesn't mean you're three times as wise, I turned 18 in the early 2000's and probably have a better feel for what pre-adults think. That decade could have completely changed the landscape though. I think what I was trying to say about Sumlin RECRUITING not coaching in my earlier post was clear, at least the people who've read my earlier work will understand it. I'll just end with an example, if Mack Brown and Kevin Sumlin switched places RSJ would have stayed committed to Texas like he was before Sumlin got the job, same with Thomas Johnson last year. It's not the SEC man, the top kids would rather go undefeated and play for a national championship and Texas has always offered that over A&M and still does. No matter who the coach Texas has always had and always will have better overall recruiting classes than A&M, that's why when Texas goes 10-2 they get the top recruiting class in the country but A&M goes 10-2 and has to take 18 three star kids. A&M will never have the talent pool Texas has but now Sumlin is getting those high end kids that were all going to Texas and not developing but still going to the NFL and it's not because of the tradition. That's all I'm saying, I'll be done on that note. *Thanks moderators for not locking the thread. Goes to show non-idiotic statements can still be accepted, even if it is just offseason reading material. I promised my better half I would just check the recruiting news until the season started so that's what I'll TRY to do, just couldn't help  myself. Still to this day SETX is the only message board I've ever posted on, darn near feels like a locker room.
 16. By the way usedtobe, if you don't like my views you should write a letter to the Texas A&M Board of Regents or for Rob Parker, the Ivy League Columbia University Board of Regents and asked them to change the cirriculum per YOUR views. . . . Last time I checked both schools were still teaching history.

 20.
As if Cougar14 bubble wasn't already busted, Coach Sumlins wife is white. Dang Cougar, better do better research man. That theory isn't working. ;)
Burst my bubble? Charlie Strong and Turner Gill's wife are also white. Not sure about Joker Phillips or Alan Embry but what does that have to do with anything? Unlike most of the posters on here all I do is research, that's why I get pms all the time that say "good research" or a parent asking me for an off the record opinion even sometime giving me very personal information about their kid. They say the resaon Turner Gill didn't get the Auburn job and Charlie Strong turned down the Tennessee job was because they had white wives and weren't going to be able to recruit in the SEC. I never brought that up because I don't think that was necessarily true. This is what Kevin Sumlin dealt with growing up early in Alabama and the reasons he left.[Hidden Content]. It's even more of a recruiting pitch to say hey, "I know what it's like coming from the South and having to go to school where you don't necessarily fit in." Do y'all think behind closed doors when he's talking to these kids parents it's all about the 12th man or yell practice? Y'all are off your rocker. He's recruiting kids from places that were some of the most segregated in the country. If so I guess you believe over 70% of minorities voted for Obama because he's a democrat? My parents make well over that $250k mark where the taxes are increased and both registered republicans but still voted for Obama, I'll give you one guess why. Not saying he's the best candidate but when given the opportunity people's minds can be swayed by external factors that are apolitical and the same can be said for Sumlin in the football spectrum. My 12 year old son is almost 6' tall, 140 lbs and bench presses 165 already and can touch the nets on a 10' goal but my 6 year old just beat him in a 40 yard dash. I say that to say one or all three of my sons will probably get football scholarships just like Dad and all three current cousins that are of age and playing FBS football or have FBS offers. Even though the A&M board of regents gave me my economics degree in '06 UT was still the school of choice for me to send my kids to just like two of my uncles and one of my cousins that is currently playing for the Horns . . . . That was until A&M made a hire that shifted the Texas recruiting landscape. *I know most of y'all will read the article and say this stuff happened a long time ago but you're old enough to remember it vividly, some of you were probably part of the "Seperate but Equal" doctorine so I don't expect you to understand and you probably never will. I'm sure y'all would have been right along with the group watching Emmit Till also, but hey, the Aggies are relevant again and that's all that matters.
 21. Cedar Hill is playing Katy for the 5a-D2 title with less than a 50 student enrollment as SC. If SC area is growing they could actually have a higher enrollment. Hopefully for SC Georgetown wins state so you can say y'all would have won had it not been for them. Can't use the 5a thing at all anymore though.
First of all I think people believe I think he can coach because he's African-American, I believe nothing of the sort. He can coach because he's worked on staff's with Dana Holgerson and Bob Stoops. Sumlin is an ex-linebacker who is looked at as an offensive guy, the transition is from his ability to absorb knowledge along the way. That has nothing to do with being black. My whole point is recruiting. He can convince four and five star kids from the inner city and other places with high minority populations that College Station is their fit when the can either choose from Austin, Baton Rouge, Atlanta, or LA. If it's the SEC and all the great competition why does the UT recruiting class still blow A&M out of the water after barely being .500 over the last three years? A&M has 33 commits (15 four star, 18 three stars) while Texas only has out 35 total offers (12 four star, 1 three star). This means no matter A&M's record in recent history that what they've been able to recruit is so poor that over 20% it is replaceable with mid-level high school kids. The same kids Texas say only two in the whole class are worthy of a scholarship offer. Texas went 5-7 and for most of the year had the #1 recruiting class in the country, A&M went 9-3 and grabbed 3 four stars. I think y'all are overstating the move to the SEC. I think Sumlin would get those same kids if A&M had stayed in the Big 12 and maybe even more because he could appeal to the kids that wanted to play more games close to home where their families could see or against old high school foes and teammates. If the Aggies went to the Pac-12 A&M fans would be saying the same thing about their recruiting. We recently had the retirees come back to work for the Christmas party and I saw one of the old guys I used to work with that now lives in Caldwell. I can't post the terminology he used but to paraphrase he said, "man I know we're winning but now we're getting the real good kids and I think it's because of that coach." I have cousins at Kansas and Texas that both said they would have went to A&M had Sumlin been there, I also have another  little cousin that's one of the Texas Top 100 and currently has an offer from Rice but says A&M is now where go over anyplace removing Texas from that spot. 17 of the current 21 males in my family of age have played or will play college football so I'm going to assume some of my 7 sons and nephews will play also. A&M has replaced Texas at the top of my list and many other dads I know with similar situations and it's not 'cause they play in the SEC. I could just be old school though, I do turn 30 next year.

PS WILL SOMEONE ON HERE MAKE A JOKE PAGE ABOUT OTHER TEAMS
They already have, soon as they lost. If you're going to take time to write a letter to the editor about jokes on a football forum you should probably preface it with a question of why nearly 40% of your schools enrollment can't pass the state's standardized tests. If your feelings are hurt then take SETX sports off your favorites list 'cause I'm sure the kids care a lot less about a joke than you do.

Newton keeps being singled out as an exception to all these other reasons. Why? What makes them different? What does Newton have that others don't that trumps the problems being discussed? Shouldn't other programs be able to study why and emulate the program in ways to produce the same type result? Far as I know there is no Voodoo involved. I don't see dead chicken carcasses or blood scrawled words on the facilities. There has to be a reason that Newton has been able to produce consistently year in and year out and other programs do not. It's not money, that's for sure.
Newton has 3A talent that plays in 2A for one thing. They have an established program and tradition that didn't change for 36 years under Coach Barbay. W. T. was under Barbay long enough to continue on without missing a beat, just like Coach T at WOS. Consistancey and continuatey at both these programs.
Then why don't more schools attempt to emulate these programs? Nederland has now had their coach and program for many years and are having some success. Do people understand how difficult it is to win a state title? It took Coach Barbay 24 years to get his first title at Newton as head coach. Most programs will not stay with a coach that long. Thank goodness Newton did.
I know money and facilities are the reason people think we don't win championships down here but I believe it's coaching and systems. North Shore may have the most talent in the state with some of the nicest facilities in the area, all that equals one title and David Aymond still has a job. Jimmy Dickey kept his job at Crosby for years because of the talent he fell into, never mind the continous exits to La Marque. I know some will say it was talent but I'll beg to differ. It's not a coincedence some of those coaches can go to Pearland and have success. My better half went to Dallas Skyline which is one of the most dominant programs in the state. The team plays in a garbage stadium that seats about 1000 more people than the schools total enrollment. Bunch of inner city kids from nothing in South Dallas but yet produce All-Americans and make yearly runs deep into the state playoffs. Commerce High School won two 3a titles with kids from conditions I wouldn't wish on my enemies. Euless Trinity wins titles with kids from not much better circumstances. The determining factors in both of those teams title runs are Steve Lienweaver. The school that just took out Crosby, Manor, has some of the worse socio-economic numbers I have ever seen and they're one game away from playing for a title. They have an excellent coach though, just like Skyline and Desoto. There's a lot of non-affluent places around here, especially in The Triangle so we make money excuses for losses but it's coaching x enrollment divided by participation that makes winners, not a bunch of money. Look at BH, well funded little town and just now got their first playoff win this year. People need to stop looking past the white elephant in the room.
It is what it is - won't matter much what Tony's level of happiness is.  Go stir something in the Kingwood area. ::)
I'm sure Tony Brown doesn't care much about an all district award. He'll have an All-America award next year along with several million dollars in his early 20's. Kid is one of the top few db's in the country for the 2014 class.
