The ''Beast"" is playing safety......
So he's not going to get a chance to play qb?
not unless something happens to force the issue, but that beast would rather play defense and hit people than play QB. After Carson is gone you could have 3 or 4 battling in the off season for the starting spot and all are very capable. I thought Carson threw the ball well and I think he will have a good year. Our offensive line is always a work in progress the first few weeks, but it always comes together.
policy is simple really; the best player plays.
The best player will play QB in the next few years for Nederland and always has under Neumann. Raines will finish out tenure this year. Job well done. Next year, the nod goes to then Sr. White. He's got a nice arm. He's tall and athletic. After that, Smith, accurate passer, good hands with the ball, tall and strong as well. Both White and Smith strong arms on the mound in baseball as well, don't see them getting "looked over" on the gridiron. I didn't see much in the interloper who transferred in, not quick at all, running the ball, not a strong passer, really doesn't perform to Ned's QB standard, kinda shaking my head???? (Guess we just have a crop of QBs if needed.)
That's what I hear as well, QB will continue to be strong for Ned the next several years. These kids are all team players and will do whatever it takes to become better and win for the Dogs. Great season for the Dogs with Raines with the rock! Still think we need some beef on the O line. I think this will help the running game which we help the passing game. JMO. -
Guess what any poster can name themselves whatever....doesn't mean anything. They could be from anywhere, root for any team.... I give my take on this one....Dogs will stand tall in 20 4 A and WOS, if healthy will be force in 3A this season..... Good luck to both.

He's outstanding athlete and could step in if needed. Of course, It's better scoring td's than throwing for them! Go Dogs! Dogs will rebound next week for scrimmage against Dayton. Always see the best when you play WOS~ No worries for Dogs. I do agree about putting a little beef on the Oline (from the defensive side of the ball). I would love to see Malveaux & Pryor getting some series on blocking for our offense, just to see what holes could open up. -
Is the back-up QB as good as Raines for NED?
Raines is our QB this year, barring injury. Raines does a fine job and Ned is lucky to have him. Yes, we do have excellent backups at QB in Nederland (lessons learned) White (jr - Varsity) next in line, Smith (soph- JV) after him. both underclassman are outstanding pitchers as well, they can hurl a football, too. Everything looks fine for Ned at QB. These kids are team players and loyal to the Black & Gold. -
thanks sports fan...
Yeah. Go on believing that league kids can't compete, and those BC kids will keep proving you wrong.
BC kids played select also. Note to you. Also, they are 3 A. Some of the best select players in our area as well as in hs. Glad to know you represent them as well, kelly, wb, now, BC. WHo are you????

westend....the last time I looked baseball is a TEAM sport. Select players don't finish anywhere in district. Again, the obvious is not always so obvious for you. If you are speaking to how select players impacted the district race in 20 4-A, PNG finished first. I know there are several key players (really, more than several) who played select that represent PNG Varsity this year. They are a polished TEAM and deserved to be the Champs. If you are speaking to Nederland, which team are speaking to? Sophomores, JV, Varsity. Select players are on all of these teams and represent their town with class and a respect for the game. I can't really tell what you are trying to say, you talk about Kelly, then say you are from Westbrook. ???? My point, again, select players are starting in 20 4 A competitive teams. Plain and simple.
-
Umm...i .know the obvious is not ALWAYS obvious... 20 4 A, the dogs....really guess your $$$ should have been spent on your education. Would you like our hitting coaches name, personal trainers info, birth certificates, select history, awards won, colleges contacts, and on and on...I can help you out if you would like. Yeah, I didn't think the Gladiators produced 2nd team players, you're right again. 8)

Education is way more important, You're right, 99.99% of those players at Kelly are NOT going to be playing baseball anywhere after high school, I agree, maybe a JUCO is better for some.
My kid goes to Westbrook. 2nd team all district. Good try though.
Gosh, maybe if he played select, he'd made 1st team!
He did. Just not exclusively. Look it up. It's a word.
Yep, I looked it up ... EXCLUSIVELY - played for GLADIATORS, strung along for $$$, forced to play other leagues for playing time. ;)

I was really joking about dad's son's making all-stars...knew that would get yall going for nothing. However, like I said those kids are usually better because the parent puts the time in with them and the parent cares enough to VOLUNTEER their time. Mofo, don't know what district your hs is in??? For 20 4 A baseball, I look across the district at the COMPETItive teams, and guess what, Select players are starting. That's a fact. You can say what you want. But if your kid is hanging out and JUST playing LL, then that puts them at HUGE disadvantage. Slice that how you like, but that is a FACT of TODAY'S high school baseball and beyond. I am watching a replay of 5A State championship game on FOX right now and guess what, I know some of those kids because we have played against them in SELECT baseball. Select lets you see BETTER competition and as far as LL being on EsPn, well I don't know their agreement. But you lose your ability to especially develop as a pitcher when your 12 year old friends are already pitching at a greater distance facing better batters than you. (You know, those dominant pitchers from 46 feet can't move on and pitch the same at 13 years old, let me go ahead and hear how LL is protecting pitchers arm, blah, blah, it's a rouse and doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that????) I am all for community sports but if you are moving on in baseball, make a wise decision for your player and get them exposure that makes them better. Plain and simple, take it or leave it. 8)

ahh, All-stars, my favorite 8) Let me put in my thoughts (as I don't have a dog in this fight). Mofo...select (travel ball) makes you better. (period). You want to play at the next level, I am talking about high school and beyond. Better find you a [s]good [/s] great select team and develop your skills by playing with and against BETTer talent. When you broaden the talent pool you see in a season, you either rise to the challenge or realize you are not as goood as you thought. Baseball is a mind field of "little johnnies" who believe they have "it." ( and 99.9999% don't) I could probably say this with confidence, you have in your lifetime MAYBE have seen one player with real baseball talent and they are not related to you. Little league is a dinosaur, and it's extinction will happen. You can't be driving a Model T on the Houston freeways and keep up with traffic. Little League serves its purpose in bring a community together and giving kids a chance to play baseball. However, if you want to better yourself, you have to challenge yourself. When you go for instance to Houston and play a tournament, you will have a wake up call. There are bigger, better kids than in your neighborhood at home. For the truly talented kid, he will rise to the top. In today's game, you have to realize that your opportunities are limited only by your mindset. We did play select and early years of LL. We opted NOT to jump back in and play LL at 12, I wished they would have. However, the dividends payed off now. They are athletes at higher level than those who stayed home. Coaches love this because they have players who have seen talent as they would see in say a baseball playoff game. All-star coaches are only as good as their players they put on the field. I do believe all coaches son's should be voted in, simply because all year they have had to "hear" it all season long (it would be their payoff in a sense and typically their sons are decent ballplayers because their parent has put the time in with them, as the team as well). Field the team out with the other best players in the league, regardless of who their parents are or are not. After all, who wants to put all that work in only to lose. Baseball is the only sport where the object of the game is to "Go Home." Ben Witherington

why would anyone count ozen out? Png and Ozen, no matter the personnel, are tough. Livingston is my wildcard because I just don't know enough about them. Nederland on top. No question. Vidor right there, too...

Pitching coach for 17 year old in SE Texas Area
You really don't need more pitches. If you can command 3 good pitches, you will be just fine. Would a fourth help, sure, but it's not necessary. If I were you I would concentrate on his velocity, and for that I would say Sam Moore.
Agreed about velocity is most important on fb. Hit the weight room and have a defined routine to strenghten core, legs and upper body. This is important esp during off season for a pitcher. Have a defined plan and stick to it. -

A little rain every now and then and we are set. The way football should be played. ;)
Cool. How about the rest of the school district? ;) ;D
I thought this was about the turf, oh, I forgot yall have morning classes on the turf - singing cherokee and practing the "I" (we all know what that stands for 8)... most from Nederland know why the turf is not holding up..... ;) And thanks for reminding us pngbkid that fb season is just around the corner....i guess now if Ned beats Png(on their own turf), it'll be the turf's shortcomings, better than hearing png's excuse, "oh, we just ran out of time." then, the next thing malfunctioning at Cherokee Station, will be the clocks on the scoreboard..... oh, the fun we will have.....

my2cents....like your support for your Pirates. yes, lots can happen! I don't discount that. I know there are challenges ahead for the Dogs. You never become a champion: without achieving more than you thought you could, without overcoming things you never thought you'd face, without having everyone hate you, whether you deserve it or not, and in the end, rising to the moment no matter what it is or is not, and by doing so, making your critics, your fans as well. You know, trash nor crow taste good. (not that I would know) 8) Go Dogs!

i can't even touch this one........ ;D

Focused, determined, these kids want to earn everything. I know that next year will be tough but I know they will rise to the challenge. Counting the days.....til we see the lights and boys in black and gold. GO DOGS!!!!!!
Another problem fair cloth has, if the fres. Qb 's dad does not agree with coaching decision he might just move him to another school. Did it once , will do it again.
I think you make an important point. Loyalty is everything at PNG. IMO, I do believe you go with your senior. Also, size of younger guy will be a disadvantage at QB in 20 4A. He will hopefully grow in height in the next year. The controversy is not one that PNG needs. It could be interpreted several ways and I don't see any of them good for PNG. That's the scuttle about this. Makes you ask, who would start something like this? ??? The one thing I can say about Mid-County Football is RESPECT. If you don't have that for each other, you have nothing. WE ARE THE NEDERLAND BULLDOGS!!!! WE WON the OFF SEASON (that's an inside comment) ;) GO DOGS!!!!!

Who Will Be The Best Team In SETX??
thedogs1987 replied to jkbtjc53's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am hearing that Brook only has about 80 kids in spring practice. Sounds like the new transfer program is about to end the run of Forest Park...I mean west Brook.
The Brook lost a great coach in Stump...that will affect #s and morale. New system, etc, etc... To the game vs Brook and WOS, Nederland. I'd take WOS coached by Hooks over a lot of 5A teams, including the Brook. Once again, WOS today minus Hooks, not so sure. To Neumann vs the Brook TODAY, I'd put my Dogs on top in this one. If it was Stump vs Neumann, it would be a coin toss. Dogs, Ozen, PNG, even Vidor would give Brook a run for their money any season. Size is good, talent is better and speed kills and coaching makes a huge difference in hs football and baseball. the Brook lacks a lot of the discipline that the 20 4 A teams have. PA Mem is a tough matchup for any school. They have speed, talent and size. I do miss playing the Lincoln and TJ teams back in the day. Always good games vs Ned. I do believe it would be too much for 20 4A vs PA Mem. If PA Mem took all of their factors and added 20 4A discipline we would be talking about a PowerHouse FB team in our area, year in out.
