  1. Let me clarify my comments. I have no problem with students/players coming from Houston, Dallas, etc. I just feel LU definitely will need some local flair. If LU ever brings back football the fans have to realize they never will be a major force like the big name schools. You look at schools such as the University of Houston and SMU and have to realize they are not viewed as powerhouse schools and they have the facilties and monies that LU can never reach/touch. LU has to compete at a McNeese, SHSU, SFA type level. If you look at those schools you definitely see local players. Whereas they may not be playing on New Year's Day they are still successful.
  2. Whereas that is true, Lamar has a habit of going overseas etc to get kids in other sports. My intention is not on disrespecting those students but the community at least needs to know or have possibly heard of some players. Lamar promotes itself as "our" community university so they have to show it.
  3. Whereas Dayton and WOS will be a good game the hype will be about game 1 of the Beaumont Bowl.
  4. My main concern is the o-line play. Jeremy should do well when he settles a bit more. These young kids could be special.
  5. So is this AEP assignment a carry over from the end of the school year (May)or missing the end of last fb season (November '06)? If he still needs to finish from this previous year I would be surprised he is even allowed on the field until after his assignment.
  6. I was told #26 is Chris Barnes a soph. I was extremely impressed with is play. He was solid on both sides of the ball.
  7. I left the Silsbee/Nederland game more confident in the qb play. It was good to see Roundtree step up and play hard with the 2nd string qb duties. There are some outstanding sophomores playing for Silsbee this year. I believe the Barnes kid will be a force. I was somewhat disappointed with the o-line play. Ned's def was getting in the backfield pretty easy. It wasn't bad for a start especially from the young kids, but there has to be more consistent blocking and tackling. Nederland doesn't appear to have too much speed. They definitely will need to protect the ball. The short passes were pretty spot on and the def looks big. If there is a drawback I would have to say their depth. I could definitely see a difference between 1st and 2nd string.
  8. Hopefully the weather cooperates and the heat stays down.
  9. Hopefully it is better than their tabloid type reporting.
  10. Yep, last i heard it would be a controlled game. I anticipate some sloppy play early this season until the young guys get seasoned. I plan on going Saturday.
  11. 2 years ago Kirbyville should have won but in their infinite wisdom they didn't believe in punting. Going for it on 4th and long on your own 20 or so yard line was stupid. In regards to fluke wins. Kirbyville was destroyed 3 years ago and last year. That nonsense of the buses showing up 2 minutes to kickoff and all of those trick plays was ridiculous. In 30+ years of watching hs football I have never seen the local police, sheriff, and DPS have to walk to midfield and almost take a head coach.
  12. Unfortunately that is the attitude of this area for any sport or activity. If UT was 0-9 they'd still have fans in the seats.
  13. What has Kirbyville's practicing schedule been?
  14. If they ever get it back I predict 2012. Going to take at least year to get the field and facilities in shape. It will take awhile to get a staff organized. It will take another couple of years with a head coach in place to get recruiting etc. I know this is a professional team but Houston had Capers on board for a couple of years before they had the first snap. I can't imagine a prominent figure would be willing to sit in an office for a couple of years before his team even suits up.
  15. So we have really high expectations from some and now a lower. This definitely will be a young squad and could be a boom or bust season.
  16. Folks could always add a twist and post their schedules with wins and losses. Let's really stir the pot.
  17. Initial reports were Donovan will be released for the 4th game. Still got to play it safe coming off a head injury however.
  18. Jasper Silsbee WOS .....but this district will probably be dismantled in February.
  19. The tendancy is for the schools that seem to get the most talk usually get tabbed overrated. At this point most of the posters from the 4A district seem to be from or at least discuss Nederland much like most of the talk in the 3A district revolves around Kirbyville.
  20. Yes......there is wood. It is right over on the sideline next to the water cooler. Better watch out, those splinters can be mean.
  21. If in fact you are a player and your number is 24, you have greatly done yourself a disservice. Not only would I anticipate your coach getting you to settle down on these boards, but you have labeled yourself to be served some punishment by the opposing team.
  22. Last season he said he wasn't a player. So which is it? ???
  23. I do not believe he is in school therefore no number.
  24. Has Kirbyville created a few more trick plays this offseason or something?
