  4. congrats 07---how did your son do? Thanks. "JR" threw an inning in relief to get some work in. 2K's, 1BB, 0 runs. We are playing two games today in the Blinn tournament. AC just started against Seminole.....leading 2-0 in the 1st. Corey Benavidies (?) ( Friendswood ) is starting on the mound for Angelina. Richard Hepworth ( Round Rock) hit a 2-run HR. AC will play Grayson County following this game. Both of these teams are ranked in the top 20. Kendall is slated to start the 4:00 game on Sunday against Blinn. AC also plays Wharton on Sunday @ 1:00. No games on Saturday. I still cannot get over the fact that you are a beancounter. Ha Not the mold sorry but WOW Anrold see any action? LOL...Never judge a book by it's cover. ;D Unfortunately, Arnold was scheduled for a MRI on his elbow....earlier this week. I have not heard anything on the results yet. He threw behind Kendall last Friday against Alvin and pulled himself out after about 10 pitches. This kid has a some terrble luck and bad breaks this year. He got sick earlier in the fall and missed 2-3 weeks...now this. I spoke w/ his parents quite a bit last Friday. Good people.
  5. I don't think so Tim. OK, so who is Tim Tebow Tim Tebow of course... Come on man...you know Tebow.....Lazeeks' man. ;D The man crush of the 21st century if I've ever seen one. How's everything been eagle? I haven't been on the boards a lot lately. Exams and homework keep me tied up. Doing well. Exams and homework...I remember those days. Good luck.

  7. Yes he is still here, hope that he sticks around a few more years. I would imagine that BH will do all they can to keep Coach Toon around. He has done an excellent job with BH basketball.

  9. Maybe we can do like the YMCA and not even keep score............just kidding.
  10. Region III 4A Lamar Consolidated, Brenham, Friendswood, Barbers Hill, Austin Macallum, and whoever wins 20-4A. I like Vidor w/ Trae Hester. 3A Bridge City.........possibly Orangefield w/ Felts and Statum.
  11. Wow ! Haven't even played one scrimmage yet and you are accusing the dads of ripping the coaches. Truth be told, the only "ripping" or negatives I've seen on this thread are from kids or players.....not dads. Thanks for your insightfulness.
  12. I was asked how I discern a good from a bad one. Why don't you tell us how to do it if you know so much? Do you truly believe that nobody should question a coaches judgment? Sounds like you are the robotic fool. ps---I never asked for credibility in your eyes. Means nothing to me. and, I'm sorry that you can't tell the difference between a good coach and a bad one. :D Westend I'm with you. Why is this issue so hard for some to understand ?
  13. The doubleheader between the Galveston Whitecaps and the Angelina Roadrunners scheduled for 1:00 today has been moved to tomorrow. Still @ Angelina @ 1:00.
  14. BH 14 - BAY CITY 9 A lot of offense in this one BH had 5 long balls peterson 1 Lyday 1 and Henscey had 3 big night for the left fielder. The pitching looked good Peterson, Burdett, Rocha all had good nights the under classman struggled but it was the first game. The middle infield turrned 3 doubleplays overall at solid first outing A very solid start to the season. BH ended up winning the game 14 - 9. BH's top 3 pitchers, Peterson, Burditt, Rocha, (in no particular order) all looked good giving up 3 earned runs in 6 innings, each of them pitching 2 innings. Blaine McDonald, and Cole Young both pitched well in relief in their 2 innings of work. The hitting and fielding were both highlights of the game. The defense turned in 3 double plays with Carmona and Clifton up the middle looking very sharp. Colby Henscey had a diving catch on a ball in the left center gap. Jake Ponder had a very solid game behind the plate with no passed balls, several very good blocks on pitches in the dirt, and throwing a couple of runners out at 2nd on steal attempts. Matt Peterson and Alex Rocha both had solid games at 1st base with several good digs. At the plate Colby Henscey led the way going 3-4 with 3 HR in consecutive at bats (2-run, 3-run, and solo shot) and 7 RBI, all 3 homeruns were to the opposite field on outside pitches, 2 to straight away right field and 1 to the right center power alley. Tyler Lyday also hit a crushing 2-run HR to straight away center and Matt Peterson hit a HR to the right center power alley on an outside pitch. BH had several kids with at least 2 hits on the night. Correct me if I forget someone, Henscey, Lyday, Ponder, Carmona, Peterson. BH had at least 17 hits on the night. BH plays again Friday evening at home against Bridge City. Nice write up RIP! I don't remember Eagle07 giving such detail ;D ;D LOL...I've passed the torch to good hands. P.S. It's alot easier to keep up with all of the stats when your kid ain't on the mound. ;D ;D Excellent start for the Eagles.
  15. BH @ Bay City is still on as of now...Should be starting any minute.
  16. Excellent post...I couldn't agree more about early age select. I read an ad just the other day looking for players for a 7-year old for a select team. IMO, there isn't such a thing as a 7-year old "select" player. Mine started select at the age of 13 and that was w/ a low cost more local team...before he was recruited by one of the true "select" teams. Your post and the last one by zoneman make some very valid points. I guess we were fortunate in a way, in that mine only pitched. We didn't have to show up except the day he was scheduled to pitch.....saving a good portion of the hotel/food expenses. To avoid burnout, usually we took the first month off after the high school season.... and really only played one or two days a week because he only pitched. I think the 6-12 year old all-summer, every-summer "select" ball is just a way for somebody to make some money. Zoneman- You are correct about the baseball 'ship being renewed on a yearly basis. The majority do not realize this. Also, I more than likely didn't make myself clear while "defending" select ball on this thread. When I mention select, I'm talking 14-18 year old players. I'm totally against the younger-aged select. IMO, I do not think there is such....oxymoron I guess.
  17. I'd have to agree with this for sure. Also, the fact that he started out as an All-Star catcher before he was an All-Star second baseman. He was a true gamer.
  18. The NCAA has made significant changes that went into effect this year. The numbers still do not quite compare to football and basketball but they are closer. Until baseball generates the amount of revenue that football does for most schools, it will never be the same. To me, that makes sense. Baseball will never give out the same number of "fulls" as football....there aren't near as many players needed. Mine is a freshmen on schloarship so my research has been done and is being done as we 'speak". Fortunately, mine is a pitcher. As an example of the effect the rules changes have made, I was told a few years ago that Texas A&M had 45 players on its baseball roster...and the highest amount of scholarship any player received was 33%. This year, just from my "small baseball circle", I know of two freshman that are receiving 85%. At least 6-8 players off of the summer team that my son played on received 75+% to D1's this year as incoming freshman.
  19. I pretty much disagree w/ every number mentioned in this statement.
  20. I fully understand...I coached the older kids in Junior and Senior League...but was a League official (President) during my son's younger playing days, and could not coach at all. In keeping with the spirit of this thread, we once had to eject a parent for being rude and ugly...to her own kid! Her daughter palyed T-Ball, and anyone who has dealt with T-Ball knows that it's either, as Bill Engvall says, "herding chickens"...or little Johnny or Suzie making like earth movers with the glove a big shovel. He daughter was one of the latter...she screams from the stands..."get of your a** and play ball"...of course at the top of her voice, and we asked her to please refrain from doing that. She told us that it was her daughter, and she could treat her the way she wanted...We told her..."okay, it's your daughter, but it's our league, so if you can't abide by the rules, you have to leave"...Sadly...or maybe happily...for her daughter, she left with her child. When will some psycho parents realize their stupidity? Some never will. :(
  21. Excellent point. I was going to mention that there are many ways to trim the costs of select ball. In my experience, instead of spending a week vacation at the beach, we spent it in Florida, Arkansas, etc. playing ball. There were plenty of other things to do besides baseball. Most of all ,my son and I got to spend time together before he left for college. The times we shared and the memories will last us forever. As you mentioned, got to see parts of America that I'd probably would not have otherwise seen. We made friends all over the country that we played with and against. Some of the opponents are now college teamates. Looking back, I do not think I would change a thing.
