  1. Well if I am not mistaken Ponder was all district as a sophmore at 3rd so I think that he can play anywhere but that is just me. I know that he knows what to do better than anyone out there he has been there since he was a freshman. I was at every game the last two years...Ponder is more than adequate at 3rd. He's just another option. You've got Baker, Ponder, Lyday, and another kid someone mentioned earlier that was not on the varisty in '07 and/or '08 that all could see some time at 3rd.
  2. That is a very solid defensive lineup. Pitchers stay healthy and get some hitting ( which I think BH has this year ) and this team could make a good run. Best of luck !
  3. I don't have an underclassman--my kid is a senior--and plays for Dayton but I have followed BH baseball for quite some time as you have one of the best programs around--I know several of BH underclassmen very well and some of them are exceptional---I will however support BH baseball unless they are playing Dayton That's what I'm talking about. ;D Diamond J give me a call when you have a minute.
  4. or you could move Ponder back to 3rd and put Lyday behind the plate...the luxury of having a couple of option there.
  5. well "coached"?? BH will be lucky if they can work past the "coaches" and make them a mute point... to be honest the "coaching" is what has led to the downfall of many of the better classes who have come through Wow! I don't think I have ever been put into a position to defend a coach ;D ;D (Ususally I'm riding them during football). I think the Baseball coaching though is good, BH's baseball program has been pretty dang good over the past several years and I don't think that happens on accident. Unlike football the baseball team compete's not only in our district, but in the playoffs as well. Last year was a huge dissapointment as we had the best pitching in the state IMHO! Don't know the particulars ,but last year had a lot to do with chemistry and just plain over pitching our stars for the hope of recognition! We can't bring back last year, so we must move on and hope that the coaching and players can bring back the chemistry! actually if you look in the past the baseball coaches have done little to nothing but ride the talent they were GIVEN... if thats coaching we need to call webster.... a good coach wouldnt have over-pitched Hales last year leading to his inevitable fatigue... the kid was just plain exhausted by the time the playoffs came around Ok...I'll say this again. The coaches DID NOT over-pitch Hales last year. Yes, at the end Hales threw w/ a 'dead" or injured arm but it wasn't from being overused. Hales made his one weekly start every week...nothing more, nothing less. Thamm and Silva basically split the other weekly start. Hales threw around 80 innings for the season...hardly being overthrown. Hales and Thamm threw 75 each in '07 w/out a problem from either. Thamm and Silva both threw right at 40 innings. Kelley threw about 25. The "Hales situation" , for lack of a better term, was from an injury or lack of preparation, or both. As far as this year's chemistry being better than it has in a few years...do not agree. Last year's chemistry sucked. From a player being allowed to do basically whatever he wanted at practice to 4 pitchers ( one of them mine) who couldn't get along to save their lives. In '07, you would be hard pressed to find a team anywhere, any sport that had better chemistry. The makeup of the '07 team was unbelievable...a bunch of buddies playing ball together and the results showed. Lack of hitting was the primary reason for BH's exit from the playoffs in '07 and '08.... and leaving men on base. In the '07 Regional semi-finals against a very good Montgomery team, BH left 20+ men stranded in 2 games. That's not going to win you many ball games. In '08, BH lost because A) a key player sat on the bench due to a lack of grades, Hales pitching w/ arm that was obviously not at 100% for whatever reason..EXCEPT from being overused, and C) about three players who hit .400 for the season, hitting .200 during the series against Bay City ( one of them mine ). There you have it.
  6. I predict BH to win the district title. If the new pitchers stay healthy, BH could win a couple of rounds in the playoffs.
  7. and it wasn't raining for a nice change.
  8. 1. LCM 2. PNG 3. BH 4. Vidor 5. BC 6. WB 7. Huffman 8. Nederland 9. Orangefield 10. Buna
  9. It was the implication that BH can't go nowhere with out the "Big Four". But we are definitely going to miss the 'Big Four' and their sticks Yes, many forget that they could hit also. Hales and Thamm @ .400. Silva hit 6-7 HR's. Hales (1B) and Thamm(OF) were also Honorable-Mention all-state on the Texas sports writers list.
  10. The Hill struggled last year out of district with the "Big Four" unless you count the first round buy. Pitching wasn't the problem. Let's just say....errors and academic "issues".
  11. I have to agree that Blinn will be one of the top JUCO's in the nation this year. Angelina did not play bad. Pitchers made a couple of mistakes that hurt them. Play @ Temple on Wednesday.
  12. Yes, he had a good outing vs. Blinn. Heath is a walk on that made the team and has looked really good on the mound. Looked good Saturday in middle relief.
  13. Confirmed batterymate assignments for doubleheader against Blinn tomorrow starting @ 12:00. Game # 1-- Trey Rackel ( RH/soph/Mayde Creek ) starts on the mound w/ Chris Jones ( fres/A & M Consolidatd ) behind the plate. Game # 2--a couple of locals....Kendall Thamm (LH/fres/Barbers Hill ) on the mound w/ Jake Rowell ( soph/LCM ) behind the plate. Good luck Roadrunners !
  14. I think he/she was really asking about an injury....just the wording was a little odd. Wrong. DaBears was trying say Jake did not throw well in high school. He has referred to this before in posts at the time Jake was being recruited. His throwing is much improved now. He worked hard on it in high school and has worked hard on it since. DaBears is no bear. He is should change name to DaCubs. Has been disrespectful before and will be again. He needs to get a head baseball coaching job down the road. He has all the answers. Got it. With that said, Jake will be catching "JR" this year @ AC....makes me a big Jake fan.....among several other reasons. From what I've seen, ain't nothing wrong w/ Jake. Bright future for this kid. Talent, big heart and desire, and just a good, level-headed young man. Maybe 'JR' should "hang" out w/ him a little more. Go 'Runners !
  15. Well if you learned what a ball and strike was maybe we would LOL. You know I'm joking. I don't know....if did leave BH off of his list. I know you go old Eagles come on this board and all but since we do not Umpire them I just do not have a feel. I think I should have included them in the always solid list. No way I would Dis The Hill ;D ;D ;D Man, I'm just hoping some BH baseball parent/fan picks up my torch. We're JUCO now. I thought Mustangs32 or RIP09 would take over.....startin' to wonder....otherwise the team stuck btw. Houston and GT gonna get left out. ;D Enjoy the upcoming season. High school practice tomorrow, Juco openers on Saturday. It's here ! BTW, who you calling old ;D

  17. I think he/she was really asking about an injury....just the wording was a little odd.
  18. He also played all summer in the MINK league with the Clarinda, Iowa A's. Jake is doing just fine.
  19. Might turn out to be the Smesny kid from Dayton............Ponder from BH ain't too bad either.
  20. No doubt. Angelina will play San Jac twice this year, both single games. Monday, March 16th and Monday, April 6th. San Jac is in the South zone and Angelina in the East...then we will not see them until the conference tournament. I'll be in Lufkin on Saturday...will check out the tribute/memorial you mentioned about your friend's son. I keep meaning to ask my son about it, but my mind doesn't seem to remember everything these days.
  21. Losing Bounds does indeed hurt. Poor kid has had his share of injuries. His loss really hurts because he could play ss, 2nd, 3rd, outfield, and pitch.
  22. I agree. Most of the BH kids just finished up playing 3 weeks of doubleheaders at Baseball USA. This team has the potential to very good. The new pitching has looked good w/ Peterson, Burditt, Mitchell, and Rocha. This year's team will probably be a better hitting team overall than last year's. I see them taking the district title again this year.
