Maybe some high school coaches and ADs, some not all, should be asked to sigh a contract stating that they will pay for your kid's college education if they abuse their arms...worked for me. ;)
Good game by both teams. Error free game. Both played hard. The way baseball should be played. Kness (Sr) pitched for Dayton. Good pitching won over hitting tonight. Hitting will improve as season goes on. Congrats to both teams.
Sounds like a good one..... Congrats to BH on the win ! -

Read some of the comments bh people were making about gage his first year then all was forgot when he had a good regular season in 2011.
Respectfully disagree. If it were all about wins and losses, Don Price would still be at BH. I'm not knocking the guy, he had a good run at BH. It was time to move on for several reasons... that I will not get into on here. I think CE King made a good decision in hiring him and I wish him the best. I'm also not calling you or anyone else out, but it gets old hearing "advice" about it from people on the outside. Just my two cents.
If it wasn't bout wins and loses Flanigan would still be at Crosby.... IMO if Gage can't deliver some playoff wins, he will be gone like Price and Flanigan from Crosby (((Although Flanigan DID have some playoff wins, and STILL got run off.
So maybe it is more than just wins and losses....you lost me. ;) -

Just wondering what you guys think. Brook has it's first district game Wednesday, where presumably they will throw their best pitchers. They will also want those guys available next tuesday for our second district game. That leaves us throwing everybody else for 4 games over three days. As thin as brook in at the pitching rotation, this probably means calling up JV guys. What we end up with is a glorified scrimmage, with kids missing substantial school time(which some need) on thursday and friday. My question.....Is this a good idea to schedule tourneys as district is starting? Just seems like we would be better off with a couple of scrimmages this week. maybe it's not a problem for teams with a lot of pitching depth. Are we the only ones thin enough at pitching to make this a problem?
You cannot discout seeing "live" pitching (even if it's a JV kid) and getting AB's. IMO tournaments are more for the hitters than the pitchers. You do get to see some guys on the mound, in game situations, that you might need down the road. You also get to see how those young guys react to the pressure. As for missing school, at some point these young people need to learn responsibility, as well as, how to utilize their time. What a better way. Baseball teaches SO many life lessons.
Amen, brother ! I tell kids this everyday.

They have played a really tough schedule so far which will only make them better at the end of the season. If they can get it figured out offensively, they should be fine for conference.
I bleed Orange. Honestly, this year's team doesn't look very strong to me. Hope I'm wrong.
No offensive production....I agree with Pats, this team doesn't seem to have the pitching depth to suceed at small ball like they usually do..I am not impressed with the Horns at all. :( :( :( Usually known for a strong pen, is that the case this year or just not being productive offensively?
-
So, some of you are saying that it's OK to throw 165 pitches as long as it's late in the season and the game has some meaning to it? What's the difference in early or late season if the pitcher is in proper shape? Why does it matter if the game has meaning to it? If you are truly concerned with the player, it won't matter when the game is played or if it has meaning or not!!! Like others have said on this thread, most of you are caught up with the number of pitches instead of the quality of pitches. PITCH COUNTS are a guide. Not something written in stone.
I'm saying 165 is wrong for a variety of reasons....health at the top. I stand by my opinion that you ain't throwing well if you throw 165 pitches over 7 innings...gonna be a long season if you do not have someone else to throw.
-
I thought another poster had accurately ended this discussion. You ain't throwing could if you throw 165 pitches....simple really. 165 in February, meaningless game, cool weather, etc. is inexcusable. To quote Westend...."165 ! "

My son was going to a throwing coach and some of the things they did will surely hurt their arms eventually. 165 pitches. If you throw 165 pitches in a game , you are not doing that well in the game. To me 165 pitches in any game for a pitcher is too much!!!
Bingo ! We have a winner ! 165/7 innings = 23.57 per....not good at all, especially over 7 innings.
