  1. I heard they have someone, but don't know who yet.
  2. This is exactly the way to handle it. These Kids need to fight their own battles not the parents. The coaches will respect it and usually respond. This is what the good coaches are wanting from their players. It's called "Growing up". And it is great for a parent who understands this to attend practices and watch the coaches working their magic.
  3. As a former official, the ends of the court do matter. The personality of the refs matter. A good officiating team will be aware of this and adjust. If they don't it can change the whole game and the outcome.
  4. Stappert is alive and well in Spurger. He has two premium players with the Whitaker boys. If he can get some shooters Spurger will do well. Don't think they will win against BS. HD and Spurger will be a real battle.
  5. The best player to come out of SE texas was not from Ozen or any 4A or 5A but from lit-o-bitty Woodville. The size school has absolutely no bearing on individual talent.
  6. He will be a great asset to HD, and will make a big difference in the district they play in.
  7. C'mon COOP quit with the Vick jokes. ;D
  8. SVille would beat PNG--the crowd would be huge LaMarque would be a great game Lufkin would be a dogfight(Sorry Mike Vick) ;D
  9. Don't know if I would put Spurger in the top 10. But they will be an improved team next year with the younger Whittaker(sp) on the squad.
  10. That's why it takes a special person to be a high school coach. Most of us just would not put up with it. The successful high school coaches have support from family, and are usually great people with high morals and standards. The coaches that cave to pressures just don't last long in this line of work. You can get fired faster for caving in to pressure and losing than bad coaching, especially if your a new coach.
  11. Having coached and being married to a coach, I and assure you that any coach who caves to any pressure will not have the best team available to him/her. In small districts this is the difference between winning and losing. And my pet peeve is the parent that doesn't care about winning or losing just playing time!!
  12. Would like to thank Kountze and Silsbee for the tournament this weekend. There were some great games and everyone had an opportunity to get as much basketball as they wanted. It was really good to see the refs getting some excercise ;D and training. We had 3 games in 5 hours and I can assure you that will expose any weekness that needs to be dealt with. Thanks again good job.
  13. I have attended quite a few of my kids practices. But have NEVER addressed the coach about anything he/she does. There have been times when a coach would ask for my opinion and I would give (alway prefacing it with, "you are the coach not I") it. The parent who tries to get his/her child playing time by whatever means is hurting the program and missing an opportunity to educate their kid about the "real" world. Our biggest problem here is parental meddling. Most of the times it would be better for the parents to stay away. And that is a shame. I coached my middle son untill he was 13. He always made "all-star" but when it was said I was the reason why, I gave it up. He continued to excell without my involvement (thank God) and had a successful career. All of you guys are making valid points. It is a tough subject expecially in the small school and small town politics.
  14. Scheduled games for Friday in Silsbee 4pm Kountze vs Lumberton Silsbee (white) vs Hardin 5pm Vidor vs Warren Nederland vs Anahuac 6pm Cathedral vs Sislbee Big Sandy vs 7pm West Hardin vs Buna Kountze vs
  15. Sorry DawG. Travis Swanson and Trey Jennings both will play the 5. We have not had a 5 all summer. We have not played any set defense other than man (well, maybe a 2/3 on occasion). We took Kountze to overtime in KOUNTZE with local refs and without a defense scheme. Ask your coach how much he thinks you will win by. There is no doubt it will be a good game and either team will be able to win, I can assure if you overlook Warren there will be "Whaling and nashing of teeth in K-town". The most important advantage Warren will have is they are no longer intimidated by Kountze and they know they can win.
  16. They probably purposely waited until DickieV had a position before they resigned. ;D
  17. I can appreciate that. It will sure make it rough on WH and HD. Coaching is a hard life and you have to do what's best for the family. I wish them both the best of luck. [move]Where's DickieV when you need him?[/move]
  18. WOW what's going on in that part of SEtex.!
  19. I would have to go with Brown. They all can penetrate but I think Brown has the best outside shot.
  20. Great coach, fine man and smart. Good luck coach!
  21. What does Vidor have coming back? Any info will be appreciated.
  22. I know, you are right. The evadale tourney usually has HJ and EC. and Zavalla is supposed to have some 2 & 3A's. We have had a hard time getting 3A's to play us. We are playing Lumberton tonight, will be missing a couple of players but it should be a good game.
  23. All I am saying is with no football, a very active coach and experienced returning players BS is ahead in the learning curve. The same with Spurger.
  24. I don't know why Warren isn't in the BS tourney. Last I heard we were going to be in the Spurger, Evada;e and Zavalla tourneys. OH, topdog, I can assure you that Warren isn't running from kountze, quite the opposite we look forward to our next meeting.
