@Dick Vitale, It is obvious that you have never watched by nephew play because if you had you would realize that he fully gets the concept of team ball. That's why he averages alot of assist. There are others on the team who don't quite get that concept so maybe someone should talk to them about it. I have seen instances where players have had to walk up to certain players and tell them that they need to pass the ball more during the middle of the game. That is ridiculous....As far as him being a sophmore, I don't care if he was a freshman if he deserved to be on the team, then it is a grave injustice for him not to have been selected. My family does not quitely sit by and accept infractions, we are taught to question and defend ourselves appropriately. i have done it on my job with much success...As far as stats are concerned, they must only look at point per game. I can't fault the coaches who chose the team if they were merely looking at that stat. Anyone who knows the game of basketball understands that it is more then about points scored per game. My nephew understands how to take high percentage shots, while someone eles who scores more ppg may have the shoot first mentality irregardless of what the defense is doing. They may average more points, but their shooting percentage is low. It is unacceptable to shoot the ball when you have 3 people guarding you. It is apparant that they did not look at any other stats because my nephew averaged a lot of steals and assist per game. If one person shoots 33% from the field and another one shots about 60% but averages less points then who really is the better player. I take comfort in the fact that college recruiters know what to look for in a player. They can recognize players who play within the flow of the game as opposed to those who have a natural propensity to shoot the ball no matter what which can actually work against the team..I will close my saying "no weapon formed against him will prosper" and in the end I think he will be a winner... My sister has had people texting her all morning telling her how unjustly my nephew has been treated. -

Yeah it is a team game. I think my nephew understands that concept as opposed to some other players. -

How would you know if my nephew's feelings are hurt or not? You don't live with him or talk with him frequently. -

Yeah try explaining that to a kid who has hurt feelings now. All the hard work just to be looked over. That's a hard pill to swallow. -

So my nephew should be happy in spite of the fact that he was unjustly ignored. I am not understanding how they chose the teams. What are they basing it on. -

I think they took the other team too lightly. They didnt play as well against them defensively as compared to how they played against us. -

I didn't know that a school could petition to be dropped down to a lower classification.

What happened? What did Lavega do differently against miller as opposed to what they did against us. -
I am thinking that it is Person. I am not sure though. I think that he is saying that people are making all sorts of comments about what they shoulda, coulda done, but the fact of the matter is that the kids were the ones on the court. We don't realize how good Lavega really is because we did not play them. It is easy to sit on the sidelines and say what you wouldve done in a particular situation. It is different when you are actually playing the game. I have a lot of respect for him. He actually put the game in perspective.

It is refreshing to know that there are kids out there that know how to win with dignity. They couldve been rubbing the win in our players' faces. They couldve taken their shirts off and taunted the crowd. They couldve done the "stanky leg" or the 'wooble" dance at halftime, but they chose the higher road. I have alot of respect for those guys.

In 1988, the Lady hawks, the team I was on lost their only game of the season in the state championship game. We lost to Brownsfield, who had a then unknown player named Sherly swoopes. Everyone expected us to win state, but we didn't. The following year after losing 3 starters we won the 1989 state championship when noone thought we could. Ramona Jones and I, Tisha Bosha, were the only remaining starters left. Don't count HJ out just yet, because anything can happen, it did for us...

La Vega's chances at state title

When they played HJ they ran a defense that I had never seen before. I described it to my friend who is a basketball coach, she said it is called a triangle and 2. There were three people in the lane in a triangle formation and one person was playing man to man on Zjori, another guy was playing man to man on Shawn. She said that it is a "junk defense" that you run when you feel there are 2 people on the team that you can't stop from scoring in a traditional man to man offense. It was effective.
