From what I saw in HJ, they are turn over prone...I mean they turned the ball over against Ozen like it was HOT! I know they turned it over like 20+ times, but in their defense it was the first game after the Christmas break, but I thought then that Silsbee's pressure would really bother them....I think this will get ugly at Silsbee by the 4th....Silsbee by 17.

We were ACTUALLY discussing the "magical" move in at Central this summer, due to some AAU charity work, but you brought up beating Ozen, so I thought I would put things into perspective for you somewhat. But, you're welcome...

Lets see...State Championships, Ozen 1, Central 0 (side note Ozen started varsity play in 1999), State Appearances Ozen 5, Central 2 (side note Ozen started varsity play in 1999), From 2000-2012, Central did not get ONE VICTORY against Ozen...NOT ONE....It's OBVIOUS which program has some catching up to do! LOL

OK. This MAY be the case...It just looks very funny from my point of view...I've been around this a very long time, and it just does not look right, that's all...FYI, there is a guy in Houston named Frank Rutherford that takes in kids from the Bahamas to give them a better life all the time too...I'm just saying...Been there, SEEN that...

I'm sorry brother, but that stinks to high heaven...Seriously...AAU Coach just HAPPENS to want to take a 7'3" kid in, because he is such a "good guy"? Again that is SO SUSPECT...Sorry, I just call it like I see it....Would he have received that same phone call if the kid were a 5'6" African kid that could not play basketball at all? I think not...I smell MORE than a rat! lol

Ok, so is it safe to make the assumption that he was PLACED AT CENTRAL FOR ATHLETIC PURPOSES? Its a simple yes or no question and I am sure we all no the answer to that. If the answer to that is YES, then HE'S NOT ELIGIBLE. Simple.

Houston, is an entirely DIFFERENT scenario. Its in a much larger city with many more schools in closer proximities to contend with. Where are this kid's parents? Did they move here? By Central? NO. I'm just saying that there are definite red flags with the situation. There would have been if the kid ended up in Houston at Yates too!
-
I am saying that it was no coincidence that this kid landed at Central HS in Beaumont. He was PLACED there...Kind of like how Hardin Jefferson just stumbles upon players with Beaumont addresses...LOL
-
Truth of the matter is, the kid didn't just MOVE into the north end of Beaumont, Texas with his family and was just ZONED to Central High School...He was PLACED there and everyone knows it. Don't act like whatever district coach was not in within their right to protest such a move. I'm just saying. Lets just be real here.

Your team's WORST LOSS! GO!
Dick Vitale replied to Dick Vitale's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Losing by 102 IS a HORRIBLE loss, and being that HJ won state that year, seems like it was no upset there...I am talking about UPSET Losses. -
As a player, coach, or a fan, what has been your teams WORST loss ever? Meaning a team that you had NO BUSINESS losing to in the first place....And GO! I would have to say as a player, my junior year at Houston Madison, after beating Houston Worthing THREE times that season, by 27, 25, and 28, we lost to them in the regional tourney by 1 point in 2OT! 89-88....I can still PUKE today thinking about it! Then they get POUNDED by 40 by North Shore, who goes on to state and loses to Duncanville...What say you?

Atwood's game winner propels Central to 53-51 Win
Dick Vitale replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Its all about perspective I guess, because I have really never been THAT impressed with Atwood....Don't get me wrong he is a big part of any success they will have, but I think Nijal Pearson MAKES THEM GO. This is from last year to this one. Again, maybe its just from the games that I have seen. But to suggest that these guys that you know is more knowledgeable than me, (you didn't say it, but that's the implication) simply because of a difference of opinion is just not accurate. Its just that. Two different coaches' opinions. From what I see, Pearson is the guy, and Atwood is the "other" guy. It really has to do with team roles, more than overall talent or ability. -

Atwood would not score 30 without the threat of Pearson getting to the basket, drawing fouls, and scoring. Nijal FINDS those guys and gets them easy buckets...He has a "Lebron" type role on that team, if you will...Not comparing him to Lebron, but that's kind of what his role is...Score, set the table, dominate when he has to and lead. Atwood is a good player, but I still think HE compliments what Nijal does for him and that team. -

I don't think Central has much more in the tank other than what I have seen. Nijal Pearson is a one man wrecking crew. He GETS it done. Atwood is a pretty decent compliment to him, and the rest of them are just ok. They ARE very tough and resilient, however, from what I have seen. Ozen has really good pieces and when they are clicking they are pretty darn tough to beat. -
Atwood's game winner propels Central to 53-51 Win
Dick Vitale replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Because I SAW them actually DO these things during the Gamble Classic. Central is really not very good. They are formidable, but they are certainly not the juggernaut that some on here THINK they are. Ozen played RIGHT in to their hands in the 4th quarter. Central is a gutsy squad, and their toughness got them over the hump, because both teams really played horrid, until the final 4:00 minutes or so of the game when adrenaline and desperation kicked in. -

If they are playing fast paced, Comeaux healthy, Boyd being more efficient, other guys play their roles, big guys NOT shooting 15 foot jumpers, (I really didn't get that), focus on TEAM rebounding? YES. Maybe not 15 points better, but definitely better...Ozen looked GREAT in the Gamble Classic...They looked AWFUL Tuesday night. -

Dick Vitale replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Should have never gotten to that point...Ozen had a 12 point lead, and could have opened up an even larger cushion. SHOULD have...But I digress...Both teams have a long way to go, and as I said, they were less than impressive looking last night. -
Beaumont Central 53 Beaumont Ozen 51/Final
Dick Vitale replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Nijal made PLAYS, yes he did! When he wasn't scoring, that kid was dropping great dimes, he rebounded the ball well, he defended great, and made big free throws....looked like he was in control of his team and put them on his shoulders to force that comeback. I totally agree. -

Beaumont Central 53 Beaumont Ozen 51/Final
Dick Vitale replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Exciting finish to an otherwise yawner of a game. John Comeaux was CLEARLY THE best player on the floor tonight for both teams and he was hurt....Boyd played horrendous but kept putting it up and came up big toward the end. It was less than impressive performance by both teams, but the rivalry factor made it into a barn burner in the end. -
