Well I started the thread but the conversation about AAU coaches kind of morphed into the topic...There is only one problem..I DON'T KNOW YOU, DUDE! So how do you figure ANYONE is talking about YOU? Get a name for yourself by continuing to do your deed in your community as you say you are....Apparently you've not been around the major scene long enough to be recognized or to even realize that yes there are some ROTTEN AAU coaches out there, just like there are some good ones...Stop being sensitive...No one knows you....Keep doing what you do, if its making a difference, and honestly, being UNKNOWN in the AAU community might actually be a good thing. Good Luck to you. -

If I may....AAU is the DEVIL! :D (Thought I would get that out of the way) There are some very good AAU coaches and programs, there are some very good high school coaches and programs. On the flip side there are very bad ones as well, on the AAU side AND the high school side. You cannot say who is BETTER necessarily for recruiting because its all relative to who you are talking about. EXAMPLE; I think HJ's Clay Davis knows how to evaluate high school talent and knows how to push his kids in the right direction and can communicate with college coaches about kids...I don't trust EVERYONE'S evaluation on kids, but his I do, and have. There are not MANY AAU coaches who give accurate evaluations...They are usually just about pumping up "their" kids in order to gain personal recognition in the basketball community...There are some AAU guys that are serious about helping kids AND know the game well enough to really help college coaches seek out the right fit for their programs...But I must say that THAT number is FAR LESS than the high school coaches that are qualified and can and will actually help their kids play at the next level. I must be honest..Southeast Texas does not have many high school coaches anymore out side of the obvious ones that promote their kids and programs, especially like it used to be. Thus the influence of the AAU guys has been greater in SE Texas than EVER....Solution? HIRE MORE BASKETBALL GUYS on the high school level and less guys that can coach basketball "too"......BUT, thats another conversation for another thread! ;) -

Thanks a million, fellas! I guess my buddies will ALWAYS tie me to the Golden Triangle when asking about players! This kid is a good one from what I hear. I hope I can help him to get an opportunity on the next level! Thanks again! -
I have a few college coaching friends of mine inquiring about him...what do some of you guys think?

On THAT note, the truth is that high school kids CANNOT GUARD man to man for the most part. Smart high school coaches KNOW this and will often change up defenses in order to keep opponents guessing...I do not REALLY like zone defenses, but I TEACH them because I would never want my guys to see zones and become like "deer in headlights"...The key is to play a variety of zones, and emphasize the importance of staying aggressive while playing them and not get relaxed. If Nederland played man for 32 minutes they would not win a game...But at the same time with all of Central and Ozen's athleticism, if they played man for the entire game, they would struggle greatly as well...Pressing by some schools (i.e. Silsbee and Yates) can disguise the fact that kids don't really guard, but if teams stay in presses too long, most of the time they will eventually get adjusted to them and they will no longer be effective or AS effective...Just my two cents.. 8)
Central will win State this year. They have all the experience and talent to take it all this year. All theyhave to do is show up for the games and play.
The only way this happens is if David Green leaves North Shore and returns to the Central sideline...and we know THAT aint happening! 8)...Talent will win a few games, but in order to win the big one, you must have someone on the sidelines that knows how to get it done.... ;)
-
On paper it SHOULD be Central in a walk...I just don't know though, because that program is just so unpredictable...I think Ozen will be in the hunt as well...(MAN, that sounds so funny..."in the hunt") Jordan Hunter is a class all by himself in 20-4A...He and Wilridge, who has confirmed that he is staying at Central....Honestly, knowing Coach English, he will have Nederland ready for a run at the district as well.

New Lumberton Boys Basketball Coach
Dick Vitale replied to bball2011's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Let's see. Lumberton was one game from making the playoffs this year (prob much better than most predicted), and the coach gets fired? He has also done a good job building the under levels of the basketball program. Coach Wueller has put them in contention to be playoff contenders for the foreseeable future, and he is replaced by a girl's coach with no experience on the boy's side? Sounds like a good 'ole boy network hire to me. I hope the AD will hold himself to the same standard that he has Coach Wueller.
Lumberton has been to the playoffs ONCE in 44 seasons...ONE TIME! ANYTHING that the AD does would be an improvement. Perhaps they NEED someone in there that knows the community, and will attract more players..Wueller, I am sure, did all he could do, but if you can't make the playoffs with FOUR teams going...At least ONCE....It may be time for a change. -
Planes, Trains, and Elevators.....Always another one coming! ;)

You do not set a ball PICK, you set a BALL SCREEN....You do not set a back SCREEN without the ball, you set a BACK PICK....The CORRECT term IS screen and roll, however, it has been watered down and said incorrectly so much that PICK & ROLL has been accepted as the correct term... ::) ::)...Amateurs... ::) ::) ::)... ;D
-
A pick is OFF ball, a SCREEN is ON ball.... ::). Really? Is that supposed to be trivia? 8)
