Teresa Weatherspoon Classic December 6,7,8

who's in this tournament? -
My brothers played against Terry Teagle. When he was in San Antonio where they live, they would get free tickets to the game. A story of a small town boy making it big, how great. Oh by the way, my brothers team I am certain was the one loss on their schedule that year.

Burkeville at Joaquin Game Thread/Joaquin wins 52-0

Howard, Are you the former coach or a disgruntled ex player or fan? -
I think so because the non-district schedule is not very tough and there is usually only one legitimate district challenger. I think this hurts the development of the team's mental toughness and this is needed to play schools like WOS & Carthage. Playing a tougher non-district schedule will payoff for the Dawgs.

..Thomas Tyner shatters Oregon state records on birthday, runs for 634 yards and 10 TDs . .By Cameron Smith .PostsWebsiteEmailRSS .By Cameron Smith | Prep Rally – 3 hours ago ....Email .....What's the best way to celebrate an 18th birthday? If you're Beaverton (Ore.) Aloha High senior running back Thomas Tyner, you run for a state single-game record 643 yards and an absolutely astounding 10 touchdowns in a single game … then watch as your team's defense scrambles to hold on to an early season win.

Mixed-Up Priorities (p. 12) in the latest Sports Illustrated reads: You chose the wrong Sign of the Apocalypse (Scoreboard) last week. At a time when schools across the contry are struggling, Carthage (Texas) High's new $750, 000 JumboTron seems far more outrageous than an Oklahoma City school district's rules barring non-Oklahoma sports teams' apparel. Richard Temkin, Farmington Hills, Mich. Are their priorities mixed up?

Some people just have not learned the very basic principle of human decency; if you don't have anything positive to say, just keep your mouth shut! -

I think the Burkeville football program will be much different this year and in the near future, they will start to win again; this year they will make strides in terms on team discipline, preparation and in student participation. -
A WINNER; A FIRST CLASS PERSON, TOP RATE COACH, AND HE COMES FROM A GREAT FAMILY. HE IS A WINNER BY ANY DEFINITION OF THE WORD AND I WILL BE ROOTING FOR HIM ALWAYS, BOTH PERSONALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY.

Jasper/ Hires Dickinson from Huntington

Dickinson to serve as new Bulldog Baseball Coach It appears that Kelly Dickinson, who now serves as baseball coach at nearby Huntington, will fill the seat recently left by the departure of Coach Shawn Mixon, here at Jasper. The Assistant Superintendent of the Jasper Independent School District said that after reviewing the applicants for the job, Dickinson was selected for the position. The announcement came following the regular monthly meeting of the Jasper Independent School District on Monday evening. Mixon, who took the Bulldogs to the State Finals and came back with a trophy in 2007, announced earlier this month that he had decided to move his career to Woodville where he will serve as Head Softball Coach. Word is that school leaders are still pondering over who will serve as the next superintendent of the district, replacing Dr. Jon Whittemore, who also announced this year that he would also be leaving the district. -

From what I am hearing, they have made a solid hire/recommendation and are revamping the staff with some quality additions. -
I think the numbers Yates have, and the fact that many of the Houston schools tend to specialize in a certain sport, greatly reduces the chances of a SETX team getting to the "Big Dance". The kids in those area have greater opportunity to compete and develop their basketball skills on a year-round basis. There is only one area team that I believe has the Houston-type talent to compete with anyone, and it's located North of Silsbee.

The STAAR test will result in changes that are reflective of this article because of the difficulty presently being experienced by Texas students on the latest Social Studies test. Because this exam is at a much greater rigor and with a completely different emphasis than the TAKS asssessment, these scores have fallen significantly. With this in mind, new pressure will be put on districts to emphasis teaching over coaching. However, I remind you that we all know that the bulk of a teacher or coaches salary comes from teaching, and my thought has always been that since we get paid a lot more to teach than coach, we should take a tremendous amount of pride in doing it, and doing it well.

Blame the coach, it's the most convenient thing to do. When the child grows up and has no sense of right or wrong, no work ethic or self-discipline, then who will you blame?

The neutral person could be the principal, assistant supt. or someone else in such a capacity. One poster mentioned that football and AD belongs together because of the money. My response is that the UIL strictly prohibits incentive bonuses or pay for such, so why should it matter how much money that sports brings in; unless that is being considered incentive pay. Also, I always wonder why the football coach who coaches only 10 games (barring playoffs) gets paid a lot more that other coaches who coach thirty plus games a year. Unless, you're looking at the money the sport brings in, which again, shouldn't be considered by UIL standards.

Ager or Isaacs, I expect both to end up there in some capacity in LISD.

ALL sports programs and athletes should be allowed to perfect their sports during a particular season; this is the most fair thing you can do for student-athletes and parents. Why should the football coach decide what the basketball and baseball coaches do doing their season. Who is the expert? This is why I believe the postiont of AD should be neutral, and that this person should not be head coach of any sport.
