Can you imagine being in Greg Neece's shoes for a day? Just for kicks, it is 8:00 in the morning and you have just poured your second cup of coffee. You take a bite of the breakfast sandwich #5's Dad dropped off for you yesterday. You are putting the final touch on your pre-game speech "Wecome to Homecoming; Excuse Us While We Whip Some Butt!!!". The phone rings.
You have been selling your program for 6 plus months. Using all your strength, you have made great progress. Pushing and pulling to get the young athletes in the 7th and 8th grades to see the benefits of being Anahuac Panthers. Parents are sure that you care about their sons and daughters. You answer the phone; maybe it is "Nigerian Nightmare" informing you that he has a conflict and will be late for unit meetings. Or maybe it's someone from your "Pony Express"; calling to assure you that the mail will be delivered rain, snow, sleet, or hail. Wouldn't either of those have been great calls.
Imagine a parent on the other end. You can hear the uneasiness in her voice as you are informed you that inappropriate language is being use in practice and games. The mother gives you a list of words being use and directed at the kids in your program. These terms include, moron, retard, stupid, idiot, dummy, imbecile, loser, dingbat, ignoramous, and lamebrain.
Now, you are quite aware that we have special needs students in all of our programs. We are a very diverse community. We want a high level of participation, and we want athletics to be a safe place for our student athletes. How would you feel? What would you tell the parent? How would assure the mother that this will not happen again.
I am a friend of the program and Gegg Neece; and he approves of this message.

This is a unique district. Once district starts, you must treat every game as a playoff game. EC is the exception, there is so much parity that every game has playoff implications. If you are not thinking playoffs, you are cheating your kids. Low aim, not failure is the crime here. If you can get your kids to do a little more, you can get to the playoffs.

You’re 100% right about that. Hopefully the Buna kids won’t be distracted by all the Homecoming activities. They’re fixing to be out in this heat riding on a float..well a trailer 😂 I’m sure they’ll recover by game time seeing how they’re young. It will be interesting to see how the games tonight and how this district plays out.

I'm given a hard time (because I am Foster's crazy uncle), but I am very serious. There aremm too many coaches who get to mid-season and quit on their kids. Kids today need coaches who would rather fight than switch. Your team is 1-3, so you want to start whining and want switch teams. This is your team, your kids; keep fighting. Let your kids know you care, find a way to be successful, try to make it fun. Wouldn't you rather fight than switch? I just believe that those people in Anahuac will pull together and make this one of the most successful Octobers in a number of years. If a team is in their way; they are in trouble.
