1.
What difference do you not see in the NCAA and the UIL.    Third time now so pay attention ....... Zero UIL infractions or acusations.  And the 'numerous' infractions on the college level happened once ALL at the SAME time ..... Dude.............look....... Just cause you didn't get the job the first time ....... Lol. And now still couldn't get it the second time (with out Langston in the mix ) don't mean you have to live the rest of your live worried about someone else's.... There are probably some good doctors you could talk to...... But I'm sure you would have to go outside of trinity for that
More insults and trolling. Typical around here it seems. Get the job? Sorry I'm not in the sports profession at all, and never have been. Like I said though, Trinity is a town of 2,500 people, so you could say we've met, repeatedly. UIL and NCAA are two different things, yes I know. In the world of college sports, though, rule violations that can result in getting a coach fired, as in this case, are really a comparison of various types of apples, not a case of apples and oranges. Did he violate rules and policies? yes. Did get get fired for it? yes. Did the college itself admit he violated rules and policies and was fired for it? Yes. Trying to change that, and the obvious documented end to his UCO employment for violations, to different wording like "UIL" is pointless and irrelevant. "He broke those rules but not these"? Seriously? The man broke the rules, got caught, got fired. Then took a demotion down to High School ball, broke more rules, got caught, moved on. End of story.
 2.
Why are you so angry with Langston, he is no longer a part of your life?  I saw him when he played here in Beaumont and his work ethic as a student athelete was quite impressive.  Forgive him and let it go.  Seriously
I don't hate the guy. As I said he talks a good talk, and makes himself extremely likable. However there are 2 major faults with him. 1) He doesn't play by the rules, and this has gotten him in trouble more than once, and gotten the schools he worked for in trouble. 2) He seems to have used a couple of local high schools here (Groveton is the seat of Trinity County, a few towns to the NE) as temporary stepping stones to just tread water and collect a check while continuously seriously looking for something bigger, never with it in mind to actually concentrate on the school at hand and it's best interests, while at the same time training competitors athletes a couple of towns over as well. It would be one thing if the guy had come in and been temporary from the get-go, and did what he could with what he had available until he had to go, but the underlying intent was deceptive from the start, the training of competition was a bit undermining at best, and as at least one of those athletes was the son of a school superintendent of the competing local school it was a bit of a large conflict of interest, and the local coaches who are "permanent" and who could have been in place on a permanent basis from the start ended up out of the job and sitting on the sidelines until after he came and went. As I said he is likable, friendly and talks well, and his assistants have always seemed to worship the ground he walks on. But, while I won't go so far as to say he is or is not an outright cheater he doesn't seem to be a "clean" act either, and ended up wasting time, money and energy for more than one school system. He has some people talking about him like he is the best thing since sliced bread, but his actual record of both sports wins and rule violations disagrees with that. I'm sorry I rubbed you the wrong way, but when someone calls for locals who actually know and experienced Langston firsthand to say something, and then complain and insult when they do, then I understandably take offense at it. Now maybe a college level position was what he has been aiming at all along, since he got fired from UCO. Wouldn't surprise me if it was. Maybe he will straighten up and play by the rules and do well. Don't know and only time will tell.
 3.
Soulja, don't bother  ;). He's a troll. True 'people' of Trinity that took the time to speak TO the man, instead of speak ABOUT him, knew where he stood as well as the truth.  Again, zero acusations or infractions by the UIL.  How come trolls think that if THEY type it it makes it TRUE. Lol.              The 'trolls' of trinity,.......well you see the pointless, timeless readeric this ONE spews. Home today........  Childhood bedroom, Mama's basement
Seems like when someone comes along with facts which disagree with your little clique they must be a troll. Ridiculous. Zero infractions or accusations? I know you can type into Google or else you wouldn't be online, so since you are too lazy or too biased to do so, here's a few tidbits for you:
Central Oklahoma president Roger W. Webb has announced that the university's football coach Chuck Langston, has been fired after five years at the helm of the program, amid NCAA investigation. "This was an extremely difficult decision for me because I have enjoyed my relationship with Chuck Langston," Webb said. "However, for the future of the program, I believe a change must be made." The football program faces several NCAA rules violations, which all occurred during Langston's tenure at UCO. On Nov. 2 UCO agreed with several rules violations that the NCAA had found during their year long investigation into the football program. UCO came to the conclusion that they had failed to exercise institutional control and monitoring in the administration of its own football program, which are considered major NCAA rules violations.
UCO itself agreed that there were violations, and stated so [Hidden Content]
Chuck Langston's short tenure as football coach at the University of Central Oklahoma has been marked by cheating of every conceivable sort. The NCAA finally got wind of it, and punishment has now been handed down: Two weeks with no working. At full salary. There is one thing he'll be required to do. "He will be required to study NCAA rules and regulations," says a campus spokesman. Local Oklahoma news outlets assure their readers that despite this glitch the team's pumped. Ready to roll. And after all it's amazing how quickly a serious punishment can clear things up. "I am extremely proud of all of our coaches and athletic programs," says the university's president. "And I have every confidence that the football program is now on the right track." Coach Langston will be back to running things before you know it; and, having refreshed his knowledge of the rules and regulations, he'll direct a nice clean program from here on in.
University Diaries, 30 Aug 2007 [Hidden Content] Speaking of players, Ryan O'Hara, who played under Langston as QB at UCO:
Ryan O’Hara:  Chuck Langston (U. Central Oklahoma) was not much of an influence.  He was fired my senior year for NCAA violations.  Mike Stoops at U. Arizona was a great deal of help because I learned a lot about defenses from him.
] While the guy may well be likable, and talk a pretty fair "good-ole-boy talk", unfortunately that doesn't mean much when you get down to the b&w, real, and on paper figures. His last 3 seasons with UCO resulted in less than 6 wins per year.
his final three teams failed to win more than five games, going 3-7, 5-6 and 4-6.
[Hidden Content] His record at Groveton was the same - less than 5 wins per year, followed by his time here in Trinity, where he again had less than 5 wins per year. So "get his career back on track"?? He hasn't had it on track in more than 8 years now! The last time the man won more than 6 games in season was back in 2004! EIGHT YEARS without more than 6 wins per season. Freshman players have graduated with doctorates since the last time this guy won more than 6 games in a season. Speaking of lack of manners, yes there was rudeness - when the first thing said was "why should we believe you folks--ya'll probably dont even have a Wallmart. (sic)" that is rudeness, ignorance, and trolling in itself. Lovely example of the ignorant trolling, with even a bit of racism thrown in:
I take it you dont have Chinese restaurants in Trinity also.  Wow--must take a long time to order take out. So Sorry we not have Chinese food here.  ::)
Your mother must be so so proud! Don't like the facts and figures? Great, must be wonderful inside your unrealistic thoughts. Want to get rude about it? Kiss off. There is one good thing about his going to Lamar - it makes for great odds on what college team will finish the season with less than 6 wins, so if you have some money to lay down that would be a good bet. Unfortunately I don't think the bookmakers will be taking bets on that one, since they wouldn't want to lose their money.

 5.
Ok your a newbie so we can give you some benefit of the doubt.  But why should we believe you folks--ya'll probably dont even have a Wallmart.  So your economy relies totally on imports and then you run them off.
We do not have a Walmart, and never will. We would not let them come into the town and run our local businesses out of business, though they have tried many times to move into Trinity. So we therefore do not rely on imports like someone who shops at Walmart does - after all Walmart goods come from China. We have our own local businesses to support, and in the end that supports local community and the USA quite a bit more than those idiots who shop at Walmart and ship all their $$ to China like good little sheeple. Of course that isn't the topic at hand is it? Newbie? I've probably got kids older than you, with better manners to boot. Why believe us? Let's see...I dunno...we have firsthand experience of this guy working for our school system...unlike you
 6. Since you mention asking someone from Trinity, and mention our town on Topix, I thought I would oblige you. There are 2,500 of us in total in Trinity. Here are a few of our voices, which is actually a decent percentage of us considering our town's small population: From our local Topix, June 7, 2009:
He is just like any other Coach he has his picks. He takes the same two students home with him everyday. I guess he thinks that they will be a great accesorie to the team but what he does not know is that one might be moving to Houston, but he thinks he is going to be around. Yes I agree everyone deserves a second chance but he totally screwed up when he violated the NCAA rules. He is trying to be a hard ass but he will ease up just like everyother coach. Langston is nothing but a cancer to the program. We should have gave Droddy or Hill the chance and not Langston.

Langston has zero experience in coaching high school football.

just becasue he violated the NCAA rules. Everybody makes mistakes im pretty sure you have made a couple of mistakes in your life.

Certain young men want be given a oppurtunity to play. Something to do with their past problems. Certain demands had to be made and if they didnt perform no football. Isnt that a UIL restriction? I thought Langston believed in second chances. He got one!!!!

UIL is very specific on what you can and cannot do within an athletic program. Many of the things I have heard are going on are violations of UIL athletic policy. Requiring athletes to attend summer workouts is a violation, requiring them to come twice a day is violation, rewarding athletes with parties and prizes for participation is a violation, opening up the summer workouts for seventh graders is a violation. Check out the UIL athletic webpage.
He seems to have this little rule violation problem doesn't he... January 2009, Trinity Topix:
Chuck Langston is on probation with the NCAA until 2010. He was the head coach of Central Oklahoma University. He violated many NCAA rules. The football program at Central University as well was put on three years probation. All you have to do is search on MSN, Yahoo, Google, ETC... It will tell you all about the recruiting violations this coach performed. How can the superintendent and school board even consider this guy. How can this guy be what's right for Trinity. According to one source Langston is the superintendent of Trinity son's youth basketball coach. Maybe thats the connection. The question is, is this what Trinity needs and wants? Somebody who has a history of cheating or somebody who is honest and going to lead the kids of trinity in the right direction.
answered with:
You answered your own question. Someone who cheats, or somwone who is honest. This is the United States of Trinity! Cheaters always win here. So do not be surprised if someone who is on probation does get the job. That's the problem. Trinity has a bad rep due to people that dont care. But what about the people who do care? Who want a better Trinity? Trinity should want someone honest, not someone willing to teach the kids that winning is everything.
and...
Assuming this is the same guy - yeah, there are quite a few articles on the internet. Surely this hiring is just a rumor???

How can you not know you are violating rules and regulations. Right is right and wrong is wrong. There are no excuses for doing wrong period. If he was non knowingly doing wrong then he would have won his appeal with the NCAA.And by the way Groveton football is not Groveton football anymore. (since Langston was there)

Taking a postion in groveton as the JH PE teacher and a assistant coach would be a demotion in my book from a College Football Coach especially a Head College Football Coach. So if no one else would hire him for a AD job , I am just assuming due to his wonderful resume of numerous NCAA violations and the fact that he cannot coach at a NCAA school til 2010 then why are considering him at all????? Move on we have many great coaches to chose from . I dont want my sons or daughters athletic career tarnished by a cheater in NCAA terms. I also teach my kids morals and those are not in my book of good morals.

Your exactly right THE BOTTOM LINE. We don't want another hand me down Groveton coach, like Hill. I guess hiring someone with his record shows what Groveton's character really is. If they hire langston, he will be gone in a year or so, and the good coaches that are here now will be gone too, and the cycle will start again. We will have a bunch of coaches that could care less about our kids, and looking for a new AD.

Let the school board know how you feel. If you have kids in THS dont stand for this. IF this hiring of langston takes place i will pull my kid out of trinity.

why is Rice's kid and other kids from Trinity in a basketball program coached by Langston in Huntsville instead of supporting and building the programs in Trinity. Just wondering?

The last thing we need is a coach with a scandalous background as our ad. You can't tell me that a college coach suspended from the NCAA,that now holds a Jr. High coaching position, is the right man for the job. Someone is defending his character on this blog when the man broke numerous NCAA rules. That tells me enough about his character and decision making skills to run a successful program. Trinity doesn't need another problem. We don't need someone we can't trust and that has been decietful in the past. I'm sure he is likable but I have read enough articles that I find it very hard to have respect for Langston.

This guy broke NCAA rules, and knowingly did so, and was found guilty of doing such. Yes, I understand the "morally challenging" side of his story. Poor college football players asking for a little cash under the table as help, and I can understand that it would be hard to want to say no. I also believe that college players should be paid a little, but THEY ARE NOT. You know what happens when a coach of faculty member does such? Those "Paid" players go tell their buddies back home, and here goes the easy recruiting, or should I say "cheating". While it would be nice for coaches to be alowed to give players cash for food, free rent, etc.... it violates NCAA rules, and rules are there for GOOD REASONS. This guy from what I have heard is a nice guy, and yes, in my opinion he diserves another chance, but he has about 100 other places in East Texas alone he can also try so don't ask me to feel sorry for him.

Mr Langston was not only sancationed on charity acts He was also paying JUCO tuition for players, not scholarships. Also the surgery was that of non-player that he was paying to get them on the team. High School has insurance for players. THe NCAA has rules just as God has commandments. A lier and cheater is still just that. Even the preacher would not condem that. Forgiveness was given to all but does not mean that we have to hand over our children to that individual and allow them to be a major role model in their lives. I have raised my kids with high morals and goals just as you, I will continue and expect just that. Langston as a person for face value maybe the best man in Church but he has made mistakes that I do not wish my children to be part of. Yes a state championship will be nice when it is our time, life is not about the rewards it is about what you have give back then the award will find you.
As I said, there are not many of us in Trinity, so more than 25 pages of the above should tell you a bit about how our town felt, and feels, about Langston, then and now.
