  1. All games are won/lost along the lines & with turnovers/penalties. That’s like saying water is wet. Still, I think it will be a good game for both squads to tune up & get ready for district. I hope both squads come away fully healthy & ready to go for the ‘real’ games. I like PNG’s balanced offense. LP’s D needs to tighten up. They’ve been okay. But, have given up big plays that have hurt them. PNG has a definite size advantage over LP’s LB’s and secondary. PNG will get to face a physical offense. Their tackling skills will be tested. Neither team will be able to get by with arm tackles. Id like to see both SE Texas teams do well this season. This game should help them both. I’m glad the staffs scheduled it. Maybe next year, y’all can visit the new Bulldog Stadium. It’s looking nice, and will actually be able to handle handicapped visitors with a full experience like everyone else. I will have to watch the stream as my wife has PSP (a rare form of Parkinson’s) and few stadiums can accommodate her needs. But, I wish both teams good games, and good health. Finally, I’ve never done this before, but if anyone has a desire to give to a charitable organization, please consider The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Thanks in advance! (Mods—if the last is against rules, please edit/delete as necessary.)
  2. All I know is Kingwood would blow out both of PNG’s opponents by similar margins (and has proven it against BU), and DP against either would be worse. Klein Oak and BU are both doormats. Sorry. Kingwood will challenge King for the 4th spot this year IMHO, and DP is a perennial PO team. Neither are 6A juggernauts. But, both are solid. Especially at home. It’s a fan board for us fans. I seriously doubt if the PNG staff/players are thinking they’ll roll LP.
  3. On a side note, I’m afraid you won’t see a crowd the size of the last time these teams played—even if the stadium could hold them all. Seems like that game had almost 35,000 of purple & orange if memory serves. I think even the LP fans that can physically travel to games are getting tired of traveling every week.
  4. Pretty similar to y’all from what I’ve seen on video. The OL is good size. Good footwork. D is about average. Secondary—and LB’s for that matter—are on the smallish side to me.
  5. I’ve been saying I’d like to see them use their big TE more and also some quick outs, slants & delayed screens. High pct. throws to get their talent in space and get D to back off a little. A deep chunk is fine every once in a while. But LP’s QB isn’t the most accurate, or have a great arm. He’s a good game manager & typically doesn’t turn the ball over. I’ve seen some of that in the first two games. But, they really need to practice them more in games. Even if they don’t win the game. The game you remember was at Tully in 2011. And yes…Craig James was a one man show. RB, LB & punter. He may get a lot of the credit. But, y’all’s D that year was outstanding. I think that was what was more important for your SC. Stratford was—and still is—a very underrated undefeated State Champ in ‘78 IMHO.
  6. No. I’m sure they were trying to win. What I am saying is, the play selection—while I like it to try to open up the O more—wasn’t typical for this staff when they’re really trying to just pound which is their MO. It almost seemed like they wanted to try different things while the game was early and score was either tied, or within one score. When the opponent went ahead by more than a score, or had gained momentum, LP went back to their bread and butter pounding, scored pretty much at will, and then went back to different plays. The D gave up big plays near the end of both games and put them a score or less behind in both games, and coming from behind with little time left isn’t their forte.
  7. The Deer QB is pretty talented. He must be 6’5 if he’s an inch. Good arm. But, a lot of his weapons graduated last year. Their O isn’t quite as potent. But, they’re still—as usual—a big squad. They do have one speedy receiver who is dangerous. I think his number was 5. RB seems to be by committee. Again, the QB may be their best runner. Hard to bring down. Playing at Abshier is always a tough task. Well coached team as always. Just never really has the speed to compete against the NS’s. They have usually had the misfortune of having to face NS first round. So, they’re usually one & done. Different district this year. I don’t think they’ll be able to beat Dickinson for the district title. But, they should be in the mix for PO’s.
  8. Remember that PO game well. Was there.😬 Also, there is some familiarity between the two squads. Just not the way some are aware of. The Joseph/Berneathy connection goes back to the battles of the mid 2000’s between Katy & La Porte. Both styles of play are still similar to those teams. At that time, Katy had a very large program and enrollment advantage, and put it to good use. LP only won one of those matchups.
  9. I have to be a homer. As far as the game, LP is a different animal than Klein Oak or BU. I’m a little confused on them this year so far as I see a lot of tinkering, and I wonder how much emphasis they’ve actually put on winning vs. staying healthy and trying to find other offensive options. As it stands right now, the QB is still a game manager vs. being an offensive threat in any way. The RB’s are the offense. The D has given up some big plays on trick plays and long passes. Special Teams have been well above average. In both games so far, Ive seen multiple new plays and players. So, I’m not sure what to expect against PNG.. If the pattern holds, I’d expect to see a heavy dose of #3 to the right behind a pulling LG and traps. But, that could all have been done for a reason I’m unaware of. If the first two games were more to work on things, it will be easy to tell early on by the play calling. I’d expect the staff to put more emphasis on trying to win this game going into district play. Hopefully, it will be on Texan Live, or broadcast somewhere.
  10. They’re in no danger of going away from their bread & butter when they only throw 4-5 passes until the last 2 drives. You’re too predictable when you miss on two critical 4th down & shorts because you run 85% of your plays to the right side & your QB isn’t a running or throwing threat. Obviously, I’m an LP fan. But, they do need to mix things up just a little more. There are plenty of options available within their O style. Barnes & Sandolph are very good. But, it’s too easy for teams to key in on them because LP hasn’t established any other threat yet. D just has to watch the LG. I really thought Saenz would be much improved this year after all his starts last year. I haven’t seen it quite yet.
  11. They haven’t looked bad either game. The Border Battle is always unpredictable. Tonight, they incorporated more short passes & even attempted one to the big TE. It was a catchable ball he missed. But, good targeting & good to see them incorporate it. Still haven’t seen many delayed screens—which I think could be very deadly with their run game. We’ll see what they continue to mix in. They did introduce a frosh WR tonight who looked like he could become a very exciting player. Fast, with moves, hands, & height. Will be watching him in future games. Looks like he could become a playmaker if given the chance. The D has been burned by long trick plays in both games so far. Otherwise, they’ve done a decent job of bending. Deer Park & Kingwood both have good sized teams. LP’s OL is big. But, the D is relatively small. The secondary all look to be very short. No worries. Still preseason. They’ve lost 2 games by a total of 10 points while tinkering with the O, and had a chance to win both at the end even with the tinkering.
  12. KWD has a pretty good looking ballclub. They have a nice looking RB & solid QB & WR. LP O is pretty predictable still. Did see more passes that are easier for Saenz to complete. Pretty enjoyable game.
  13. KWD stops LP on 4th & goal at the 4. TO on downs.
  14. Ha! Stepped away for a couple minutes. !!score:21/28/3
  15. LP blocks FG attempt. !!score:14/21/H LP gets ball to start the 3rd
  16. Refs miss defensive holding. Give KWD an INT. KWD ball. KWD then fumbles back to LP.
  17. !!score:7/7/1 LP drives the field. Barnes TD. Saenz hitting shorter/better Pct. passes.
  18. !!score:0/7/1 LP fumble. KWD first play double reverse pass for TD.
