La Porte (0-1) visits Turner Stadium to face the Mustangs (1-0) Thursday night at 7 PM. LP is coming off another hard hitting Border Battle against Deer Park at Abshier that the Deer won 25-22. Kingwood spanked Clear Creek 29-0 in their matchup. Kingwood is used to playing the best of the best as they’re in district with North Shore, Atascocita, and Summer Creek. They regularly finish 4th in district. But, in any other district, they’d have a good shot at consistently being district champs. It will be interesting to see if the LP coaching staff continues to use this game as a practice session for the passing game—which was pretty inept last week—or, if they actually focus more on the running game. Special Teams for LP was a definite bright spot for the Dawgs against the Deer as they almost broke every return for a trip to the house, converted 2 point conversion, and had solid punt return coverage.

I’m glad they’re working on the passing game in predistrict. Yes. You want to win. Especially this game. But, being more proficient passing for district play & possible playoff run is more important in the long run. We know what Barnes & Sandolph can do. The passing game was horrible. Saenz was off all night. They need to continue to work on it. They didn’t even attempt a pass to the big TE, and I didn’t see much to the RB’s in space. Still too many low pct. deep balls. Need to incorporate more mid level and let your athletes work in space. Glad no major injuries.
