Baytown Sterling (3) @ La Porte (52) - FINAL

Any PO games are important as it gives the young men who will return at least another week of experience. That’s one reason successful teams remain successful. La Porte had their 25 year consecutive PO appearance run end a few years ago. Up until that time, all the young men were getting extra reps, practice, and game time that built up experience for the following years. The experience snowballs.

Being new to the district, still somewhat new to 5A, and seeing a highly likely logjam at Seeds 3 and 4 in 8-5A D1, does anyone know this year’s scenarios? Head to head? Points? Coin Flip? Any info on what the schools agreed to?

LOL… Many NS fans aren’t old enough to remember when they were everybody’s Homecoming game. It really wasn’t that long ago—to me anyway—either. -

We can agree to disagree and be good. 👍 What O LP was running 2 years ago had no bearing on Friday night, unless PAM was studying 2 year old film, and scouting in a Time Machine. To make it more accurate, let’s say PAM’s run D was horrible against LP last night. LP’s pass D was horrible against PAM last night. (Or, we could be positive and say PAM’s pass game kicked butt last night, and LP’s run game kicked butt last night.) Y’all probably won’t like that I believe KWP’s style/scheme this year is more suited for PO football outside in the elements in Texas either. I don’t know what they’ve done before as I never observed. But, this year, their team is more suited to it than PAM IMHO. Is what it is… Since y’all both should make the PO’s, I will root for both. Just what I do. (Also, still hope LP can make it back.) -

Ha! Haven’t talked to BDC in a few years. Busy with grandkids, parents, etc. We do still send Christmas card. I do remember the no hand shake game. I was there. -

IMHO it will take LP a couple of years to get back to where they were. The powers that be had some strange calls on the program & staff. Let’s just say new supers seem to like to make their own marks—sometimes without fully knowing the town’s culture yet. They seem to be back on track now. But, the last couple of hires—pre Berneathy—did set them back. PAM has always had the talent. But, I agree. It took KH to get them to play more as a team, and use the talent. It’s a good rivalry to build back. -

The timing of those TD’s was critical. The fumble recovery for TD followed by one of PAM’s stops of LP, and then another PAM score was 2 score swing. The 2nd return for TD by PAM left LP no time on clock in the 1st half. PAM’s run D is as atrocious as LP’s pass D. KWP will present PAM a balanced power O & a solid D. They match up size wise with PAM well. (PAM had some good size young men.) As I said, I’d be torn between y’all’s squads right now. KWP actually shut down LP. PAM really didn’t. Not sure LP had 250 total yards against KWP. LP had that in the 1st half against PAM. -

Actually, I’m assuming PAM does score. Then, LP scores right back. I don’t have the stats. But, I believe PAM had 1 TO (INT), punted 1x, and had no TO on downs. LP had 2 TO (1 fumble for recovered TD, 1 INT), punted 2x, and had no TO on downs. Yes. The PAM QB was—I swear—95% completion rate! LOL Same token, LP carved up PAM’s #1 ranked rush D (with backup RB’s) like a Thanksgiving ham even with 10 in the box. So, we’re missing the stuffing & sides. PAM supplied the winning gravy with the KO returns. The difference was 20 points. PAM had a fumble recovery in the end zone for a TD, and 2 KO returns for TD’s. There’s your point spread. That takes nothing away from the PAM win, and LP has only had this staff on board since late February. They’ll keep improving. The upcoming classes are looking like there’s some solid talent coming up. Again, Good Game PAM! It was fun to watch except for the boneheaded LP Special Teams play on KO returns both ways. (PAM had LP’s return game figured out after about the 2nd KO. No idea why LP kept giving yards to try a fake.) -

No. But—outside of Special Teams screw up’s by LP tonight— this was a score for score game. PAM did well, and won in the often overlooked special team category. But, they didn’t really stop LP any more than LP stopped PAM. KWP—on the other hand—just methodically smothered LP on D, and surgically cut them up via ground & air on O. I didn’t get the same feel from PAM. PAM seems more finesse. In a finesse vs power matchup, I’ll take power 8 out of 10. Just me. -

Good game tonight PAM! PAM vs KWP will be interesting. Both have very good QB’s. PAM has speed advantage. KWP will manhandle PAM in trenches & a strong power game. Not sure who I would favor. I’d lean towards KWP because I don’t think they will allow special teams plays like LP did tonight. PAM will have to fight for every inch. -

Neither team is stopping the other. But, PAM has 2 KO returns for TD’s & a fumble recovery for a TD. I’ve got dibs on the over of 100! 🤪😆 On a side note, LP should just save clock, and give PAM 6 whenever they kick off. Never seen such a thing… -

Week-7 Port Arthur Memorial at La Porte Predictions 10/7
OlDawg replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
Yep. Definitely made a difference in the game. But, it’s part of it. Attrition happens. Dawgs will have had a week now to come up with options. Big loss though. Hope he recovers fully & soon. -
Week-7 Port Arthur Memorial at La Porte Predictions 10/7
OlDawg replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
You mean the District’s leading rusher with total yards & YPC? (That’s about 100 YPG & 8 YPC). That’s my understanding. I noticed he only had 5 or 6 carries against KWP all in 1st half. After that 53 yard breakaway TD run early, I seem to remember seeing him with the ball no more than 5 times. Don’t remember seeing him on the field at all 2nd half. -

If people can't attend the game, I highly recommend the LPSportsnet YouTube channel over Texan Live or NFHS. I've used both now, and LPSportsnet is superior quality to both of the others with HD, instant replays, clock, down, distance, you name it. Basically, like a normal broadcast game on any network. Besides that, it's FREE! LPsportsNET - YouTube -

Week-7 Port Arthur Memorial at La Porte Predictions 10/7

Ha! That was quick. You hardly had time to leave the stadium.🤣🤣 By this time of the year, teams are known and are either improving, or staying somewhat stagnant. The KWP game--which the Panthers were CLEARLY the better team Thursday night--notwithstanding, LP has been steadily improving with a much higher ceiling available. KWP's senior laden leadership at key positions, execution, and gameplan made the young LP squad look pretty inept. LP is a better squad than they showed. That being said, with youth comes inconsistency. I feel sure the coaching staff have already had the young men move on and focus on this game. We'll see if they can rebound from the KWP disaster. If they can, that will show me a great deal about the boys, and the approach of the staff. Now that that's out of the way, this game will be won/lost in a very cliche' way for LP. Fundamental execution with minimal/no penalties. Win the TO battle. Control the clock/slow the game down. Stop the big play. I think you'll see a much different LP squad Friday night at Bulldog. But, that's because I think their upside is still pretty high, and the coaches will have them mentally ready. We'll find out if my faith is warranted on Friday. -

La Porte looks lost. Although, I missed the first quarter. Thanks for posting about the refreshing! Ha! I was still stuck on 14-6. -
So… I know you’ve watched the HUDL vids. What’s your prediction? Looks like the offense KWP is running is a perfect fit for #2. I couldn’t find a roster. But, I’m pretty sure I saw he was an experienced senior.
