They do a District MVP, Offensive MVP, and Defensive MVP, sometimes a Specialist.
So couldn't all three of these get an MVP Honor? If so, the "who's the best" conversation is kinda a moot point. That is a lot of MVP's. Do they honor the Most Valuable Mascot/Cheerleader/Twirler/Tuba Player/etc. as well?

Given the format, wouldn't coaches just vote for whomever "hurt" them the most? If I'm from Cleveland, I know that Edwards rushed for over 300 yds...Cummings didn't...DeBerry passed at will all night including late in the fourth quarter (sore subject). I also know that Edwards ran the ball for four quarters, Cummings didn't rush much or at all in the fourth. Does this play into my decision or should I cast my vote to the Dist. Champ? Also, wondering if there is only one MVP? Do they do offensive MVP...defensive MVP...etc??

They dont give the super bowl mvp to a losing team player do they?? Bottom line is you always have teams that dont win district whining about why this is the way it is. Anthony Brooks threw for the most yards in the greater houston area his junior year and got second team AD. I thought that was wrong at the time, but in hindsight I believe that Team achievements should go hand and hand with ind. achievements, and he probably got what he deserved.
I know for a fact our coach voted for Brooks that year. But, I get what youre saying.
Talked to an old timer (retire coach) last night at the jr. high game and posed the question to him about "x" number of picks for each school. Said there were no quotas so to speak, but that coaches only nominated players from their team, but couldn't vote for their own players. Don't know if this is common practice for all districts, but makes things seem more fair in my eyes anyway. Thoughts?

Having been in both spots (playoff bound and cellar dweller) in the past few years, let me pose this question. Should teams that don't make the playoffs be awarded "x" number of spots on first and second team all-district, even if no one on the team could have started anywhere for any of the playoff teams? Just curious as to your opinion(s).

Want to make a few comments about the Coldspring / Shepherd game. First thing is Coldspring is a very good football team and I will give them that. However, they showed no class by placing a large banner on their bonfire pile that read, "Shepherd Sucks". All of the parents, grandparents and younger siblings of the Shepherd Junior High and JV teams viewed this as the pulled into the Coldspring stadium. Then the vidieo of thier pep rally was worse. Shepherd may not be the greatest team in the district this year but they do have class. When Coldspring came to the Pirate Stadium they were met by signs in tribute to Coach Barbay's father as well as the entire team meeting them in the middle of our field for a moment of silence also in his honor. So yes Coldspring did when the game in points but Shepherd was far above in class.
Is your whole town gonna be ok? You have some immates in your skewl to pal and we witness that two years ago in a BB game. Dont get on here and play the pope.
And wasn't there some vandalism of the pressbox in Cleveland two years ago during the week Cleveland and Shepherd played? Painted in blue. Musta been those classless people from Coldsprings painting blue stuff on our pressbox!! Mystery Solved! Tell Shaggy and Scooby we can head back home now. Thanks SRP1!!

*HJ vs. Coldspring Playoff Game Thread/HJ ADVANCES!!!!*
hum-babe replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
11-9...Yes, errors by both teams in this one. From all the 'classy' comments from the fine people over in 21-AAA, I didn't this was suppose to even be a game? Report I got was the lefty got knocked off the hill after two innings. Doesn't sound all that overpowering to me. I'm guessing H-J is hoping that Sweeny will kicked around like Coldspring did. (Just waiting to see what the excuse is going to be as to why H-J didn't pound CS in game two...Surly a team from 22-AAA didn't just put up a good fight) -
H-J vs. Coldspring Predictions?
hum-babe replied to braves81921's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Not sure about who is the ace...but a lefty threw against Jasper in the Woodville Tournament. Don't know his name or who's who, but the lefty kept Jasper in check during that game. -

I'm guessing that it's the same guy that spinachfarmer is talking about, but they threw a lefty against Jasper in Woodville that went to extra innings...I think Jasper won it 2 or 3 to 0. Don't know about their defense, but seems like they have a little bit working for them taking Jasper to extras. Can't find much else on them. -
*Ozen 7 Lumberton 6 Final/Comments*
hum-babe replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
first off...i'm not from lumberton, nor do i have any allegience to the place. i simply thought that your post was assinine. class or no class, if you run the score up on someone, expect the same in return. ozen would have shown "class" in basketball, maybe the whole thing is avoided....i don't know, maybe not. what i'm saying is...do unto others... -

Are you suggesting that a new thread be started about the JV score??? If so, then the Lumberton fans have every right to do that. You can ALWAYS "pull off the dogs" in basketball...freakin' go into a stall!!! You beat someone by 60-ish in basketball, you got to take your lumps when you get 'em. What goes around comes around. Heard a coach once say if you don't want to get beat bad...get better. -
Not bad for a 4A school playing in the weakest district in 3A ball...Great job Kingwood Jr...enjoy it while you can. Can't wait to see you up here with the big boys next year!!!
-
the score i heard was 10 or 11 to 2 coldsprings...not positive though. who pitched for liberty??
-
k-park is third in basketball...c-springs beat 'em and cleveland beat em twice.
-
Oh, good! More predictions! Now who's going to get credit when this doesn't happen???

Splendora v. Liberty predictions/Splendora Wins
hum-babe replied to tenor_guard89's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I've been waiting on you pplaya. What no bold predictions??? I'm still waiting on you to give someone some credit to anyone who's beat y'all. I'll hold my breath to see if you give splendora any props when they win...again (as my last post stated), I'm really hoping y'all can win out so we can meet again. I mean, God forbid, the panthers lose. -
Cleveland v. Liberty predictions
hum-babe replied to tenor_guard89's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
hey man...did u even look at the box score to this game.???? well...i was there and liberty drove down the field in the start of the third quarter like there was no tommarrow...then in the last five minutes of the forth they drove again and scored, what i would call, the winning touchdown..Liberty played hard for four quarters...just like they always have..I really dont know of anyone that would dispute that...???!!!! SO IF SOMEONE COULD EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THE LIBERTY PANTHERS DONT KNOW HOW TO FINISH A GAME...BY ALL MEANS...SHOW ME UP!!!! DONT TALK ABOUT HOW THE LIBERTY PANTHERS DONT WORK OR DONT FINISH A GAME.....because u will be WRONG.... THA SENIOR HAS SPOKEN... -
not sure about the sources...liberty got beat 42-6 9th and 34-8 JV
-
sometimes it comes down to how well the teams are prepared by the coaching staffs. not saying one is better than the other...just saying that the one that comes into the game with the best plan AND makes the best adjustments turns out the winner more times than not. if the athletes even up...it comes down to how they were prepared...should be a great game.
-
let's not forget that coldspring also scored 44 points...seems like they scored at will against diboll as well. hadn't seen anyone score that many points against coldspring in the last couple of years. don't know about the defense, but the offense seems to be on track. #20 went for over 250...seems like they've got some things going right over there. offense could carry them for a while...i don't know. after seeing the liberty/diboll score...i've got to say that coldspring has the upper hand in the district. BUT can they play with the splendorosa's "big boys"...we'll see.

* Needville 4 Bridge City 3 Final/Game 1*
hum-babe replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
get and read a rule book. the white lines are not what is considered when talking about being out of a baseline. the baseline in a straight line from the baserunner to the next base. as he rounds third, he's not going to stop and make a 90 degree turn. his momentum will carry him into foul territory. that's when the baseline is established. and as we've already stated, he has to legally avoid the tag...that's what he's doing in the picture. so no, he should not have been out... -

looked at the pic...the kid CLEARLY is trying to leagally avoid the tag...doesn't initiate malicious contact. i don't know how this play is even an issue. i wasn't at this game an have no ties to either school...sometimes you just get beat. sounds like on thursday night, bridge city just got. doesn't mean they are a bad team, they just lost the game. -

"By the way, have the rules changed recently? In high school ball, the runner from 3rd MUST SLIDE when the catcher is making a play at the plate. Needville's runner came in straight up and ran into Casey (who was clearly making a play) on one of those runs they scored. According to the rule book, that should have been an automatic out and no run awarded. That one play would have given BC the win 3-2." -
