Does anyone know if Silsbee or any towns closer to this area will be having fall ball? Not Vidor, Groves, and this area.

Information for Bleacher Bum 2007' Spurger's 13-14 year old boys went undefeated in the Regional Tournament with one win w/Evadale & 2 wins w/Hardin. They went undefeated in the National Tournament until the Championship game. They beat Slocum, Normangee, and Quitman. Cayuga which had lost their 2nd game in the tournament had the better game in the Championship game and Spurger came away with Runner-up. The boys also had played the following teams to get ready for these tournament and came away with wins in all games ( Beaumont twice, Hampshire-Fannett, Bridge City, and Twin County). 2006' This group of boys had placed first in the Regional Tournament in Hull-Daisetta with a win with Hull, Evadale, & Hardin. In school ball they went undefeated as 7th graders and the following year undefeated as 8th graders. And 1st place in all 4 tournaments in their Jr. High years. 5 of these boys will be freshmen this year Shain Rawls, Chase McGallion, George Whittaker, Forrest Anderson, Tanner Hollier -

Spurger has a point guard coming up with the youngest Whittaker that plays a lot older than what he is. He will help them tremendously with his handling skills and his shooting. I predict as a freshman he will average 6-8 points a game. He will have very strong defense and the biggest feature of his game will be that he will create open shots for the outside guys. -

Whittaker's little, but bigger brothers name is GEORGE Whittaker -
I think that a lot of people are going to be surprised this year with Spurger. They will be better with the freshmen joining the squad and the returning players. Yes, I know freshmen, but these boys will make a difference. Just wait and see.
-
Yes, don't count Spurger out at all. Spurger should be stronger this year. They should have atleast three freshman joining the squad. Yes I know "freshman", but the boys are very hard working, skilled players. They played summer league in Woodville w/ the JV and Varsity team. It was a different game than Jr. high and Little Dribblers, but I think they'll make a difference this season. They have 3 returning Seniors, 3 Junior, 2 Sophmores. Go ahead make a commit on this!

yes, I agree to a point. Our team played Buna and Silsbee in regular season ball. Silsbee did it to us, the girls really didn't like it, but went on in to their dug out. It may be in good intention, but when you lose a game sometimes you just want to shake hands, good game and get away from the other team. ( Not have them follow you to your dug out and sing to you ) On the other hand, we also played Buna in regular season and a coach, one of the same for the 9-10 year olds all-star team, seemed to like to play dirty ( told her player to run over our short stop if she got in her way ). That didn't go over good at all w/ our coach. Coaches w/ bad attitude, bad sportsmanship, and dirty play is passed to the players.

You must not know anything about the 8th grade boys @ Spurger. This team didn't get to play any of these teams in their Jr. High season. But on the other hand they played Hardin twice in the Regional Little Dribblers tournament this year. They won both times and they played them last year for Championship and beat them last year as well. This team went to Nationals Championship w/ out losing any games. They played Slocum, Normangee, Quitman. In the Championship they lost to Cayuga. For the tournament Spurger and Cayuga both lost one game. Little Dribblers tournament are not like Little League tournaments. In Little Dribblers the Championship game the winners are the Champions and the losers get second. In Little League tournament if you loss in the Championship game and it is your first loss then you play another game with that team. This little dribblers team also played the following teams to prepare for the Regionals and Nationals: Hampshire-Fannett, Bridge City, Twin County, and Beaumont twice. They won them all. In Jr. High they went undefeated in 7th grade and then in 8th grade. They placed 1st in all of their Jr. High Tournaments. These boys are looking forward to high school ball next year. I know it will be a big difference than jr. high ball, but they'll do fine.

9 yr. old all-star softball tournament
cma123 replied to cma123's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Started off in Silsbee and finished up in Kountze. I think this was the longest tournament every between 2 teams. Two rain outs and rescheduled, 1 game that toke 2 days, and the last had to be moved to another location. Final score for this one was Silsbee 2 Lumberton 13. Congrats to Lumberton on their championship. Silsbee girls best of luck on the 9-10 year old tournament starting the 23rd. For the 3 South Tyler County girls that played with Silsbee ( #1, #5, & # 15) good luck to ya'll in the 9-10 year old tournament also. -

Good game until the 5th inning. 1st Silsbee 4 Lumberton 0. 2nd Silsbee 6 Lumberton 3. 3rd Silsbee 6 Lumberton 6. 4th Silsbee 7 Lumberton 8. And then came the 5th where everything changed. Silsbee let 9 runs in and only had one out. Silsbee switched their pitcher and catcher and had 3 more runs come in. Lumberton helped out and got a player to step off the base on 1st making it the 2nd out and then one stepped off of third base which made it the 3rd out. Lumberton had scored 12 in the 5th and Silsbee came in and scored 4. They went into the 6th around 10:10 -10:15pm with the score Silsbee 11 Lumberton 20. Silsbee switched their pitcher and catcher back to their original starting positions. Silsbee pitcher walked 3, 3 k's and no runs in. Lumberton pitcher walked 1, 3 k's and no runs in. And the game was finally over. What had started out a pretty good game end up not being good at all for Silsbee. Silsbee's 1st pitcher had pitched a total of 173 pitches and the 2nd pitcher 21. Lumberton's pitcher had pitched 139 pitches. Silsbee travels to Lumberton tonight @ 7:30 -
The tournament starts tonight, Monday, 6-11 in Silsbee @ 7:30 Silsbee plays Lumberton, then Silsbee will go to Lumberton 6-13. If the teams are tied up on Wednesday, they will have to play Friday, 6-15 back in Silsbee. Come out and support these girls and when or if you do let me know what you think.

SPURGER SR. BOYS headed to Levelland
cma123 replied to cma123's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This group of 8th graders did not loose a single game during their 7th grade year or their 8th grade year. The only game that was lost was (as 7th graders) they did not play up with the 8th graders. They played as 7th graders and won and the 8th graders lost. This game was with St. Anne's or All Saints at the first of their season. Their were only a few times that they played as a 7th grade team. They normally played up with the 8th grade. Pretty soon they will be playing summer league basketball and getting ready for their up coming 9th grade year. -
Everyone but #5 Jacob Sheffield & # 00 Tanner Sheffield. The team should have some freshmen joining them, including Whittaker's brother.

SPURGER SR. BOYS headed to Levelland
cma123 replied to cma123's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
We really want know how good until we get to Levelland. As of now they're lookin' pretty good. 7 out of the 10 are off our jr.high team, which also placed 1st in district (no loses). They also placed 1st in both jr.high tournaments they played in. The total points for our jr.high (8th grade) season was Spurger 786 to their opponents 273. They played the other schools listed to get ready for Regionals. Beaumont gave them the best competition out of all. They played them twice with wins both times. Also wins with Twin County and Hampshire-Fannett. The boys play great team ball, shooters, big presense in the paint, battling rebounders, defense, defense, defense. If you heard anything specific about these boys, let me know. -
Congrats to Phillip Whittaker and Tanner Sheffield!!! Congrats to P.Whizzle on All-Region also! Will miss you next year Tanner. Great job to all the teams and guys on their awards. Does anyone have any comments about what Spurgers Varsity may look like next year?
-
The team took 1st place on March 17th in their Regional Tournament held in Evadale. They beat Evadale once and Hardin twice in order to advance to the National Tournament on April 4th. Thanks to the following teams for the scrimmage games before our Regionals: Beaumont, Twin County, Hampshire-Fannett Now the work will start for the parents to raise money for the trip. BRISKET LUNCH @ FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH in Spurger Sunday, March 25th from 12:30 till 3:00 Eat-in or Take-out

9 & 10 year olds playing 14 year olds ? -
Sorry, he just came out on fire and it was hard to deny him playing time for this reason. We are so proud of our entire team. 8 came straight from JR.high ball, one 6th grader, and one 7th grader that has never played. We have 2 out sick at the present time. Our starting 5, which was also the starting 5 for our JR. high team are the only ones returning to the Regional Tournament from last years Senior L.D. team. Hope we can get everyone well and ready for next weeks Regional Tournament in Evadale.

Update. Another good game for the Spurger Senior Boys. A career high for our point guard with 26 points. Everyone had alot of playing time and played a good game. We appreciate H-F for coming to our place for the game. Tomorrow night we go to Beaumont Marshall Middle School.
