He's another member of the SUB CLUB He had some excellent players for 2 years in Lumberton. His play calling was horrendous in Vidor and he dismantled the offense .
-
Slot T teams pass the ball 2 percent of the time . Spread teams run a pretty balanced attack , about a 50/50 run/pass. No comparison. If they could just do a straight drop back or some more quick passes when its open that would be nice. Dont always have the time for 3 fakes , then for the qb to turn his back to the line and run backwards then turn around to find the receiver. They are usually covered by then
-
It has to be the version of the slot-t that we used to run. Not the version we've been running since DuBois left. The passes cant be all play action passes though
-
If the Slot-T just absolutely has to be the offense that Vidor runs then there is none better that DuBois. Yes I do wish they would have weighed all options and that they are more than capable of running a different style offense. It just gets so damn boring watching the Slot-T year after year but if it's going to have to be the offense then Dwayne is the man. Crueder or the current OC would be a disaster

Congrats !! The future of Jasper football is looking bright with the Crumedy hire. I'm extremely happy for the Jasper folks -
What makes a good vs. great coach?
Mr. Thornton Melon replied to Bobcat1's topic in High School Football
Maybe sometimes schools with bad traditions settle for losing coaches or schools settle for losing coaches and that starts bad traditions. Like Vidor -
I agree 👍

Or Toby ?🙂
-
DuBois knows more about football and is a better coach. Mathews is more of a politician and knows how to make the right people happy.
-
LCMs coach is a high calibre coach. They weren't going to get better even if they posted it and they knew it. Vidor didn't post out of fear that a good coach may apply
-
They still should of had the job posted somewhere other than just the VISD website
-
Unless they don't open the job and hire the very best available applicant. Then more should be said
-
He graduated From Bridge City High School in 1986. Assuming he graduated at 17 yrs old he would be around 54 yrs old
-
This was Vidors chance to turn the corner but instead they chose to think inside the box. You can think outside the box or be stuck in the box. Mathews had to remain in control of the programs future even though he is leaving and hand the job over to his buddies. Politics has always been his strong suit , thats how he kept his job for 24 years with a losing record. I mean to not even post the job on the THSCA.com to attract more outsiders. Who knows, might of got some good candidates. His stranglehold on the program will remain tight for years after hes gone.
-
Heck no. Mathews would never hire a great coach , it would kill his legacy of mediocrity . Plus a good coach would want to bring in their own staff and that would break up the lumberton/vidor coaching familia (AKA the sub 500 club). Which would mean more workload for Vidor Supt. Jay Kilgo
-
Only because they don't know how to coach anything else. If they would have invested the same amount of time they invested into the slot-t into any other offense they could've had success in that offense as well . If you consider sub 500 successful. The slot-t will only develop slot-t type athletes because it is designed for non athletes , the drills and every within the system is non athletic.
-
Mathews has the entire community brainwashed into thinking that the Slot-T is the only offense that can be ran. Just because it's the only thing he knows how to coach doesn't mean its the only thing the kids can run Just another way of keeping the Viduh/ Lumberton coaching familia together . Dude thinks he's Jerry Vance and has something worthy of passing down 😂🤣😅😆
-
Trahan the Ex girls softball coach turned OC ? That dude has no idea how to run that offense, he simply emulated what Crueder was doing when he was OC ! Crueders the one that forever changed the offense from methodical to unmethodical. At least DuBois could actually fix what Crueder and Trahan broke !
-
Won't be Creuder. It will be sub 500 DuBois hired by sub 500 Mathews. The tradition continues. Grow a set Jay Kilgo

West Brook and Central were different animals before Ozen came into existence and the BISD talent was split three ways Instead of two ways. Can't compare them! Vidor was larger in enrollment than png and equal in enrollment with Nederland during the time Mathews played them. They weren't bigger schools then us until after a few storms had people moving out of Vidor
-
Vidor was in 22-5A with Beaumont Central , Westbrook, LaPorte, Deer Park, Lee & Sterling up until 1998. They dropped in 1999 , the same year Mathews took over. Its a variable one must consider when comparing before and after.
-
Vidor actually played a lot harder when they were in 5A. They lost their grit after the drop
-
It's not INTERSTATE 10 - VIDOR 0 anymore. Now it's INTERSTATE 10 - VIDOR 5 (and the fans are content with that)
-
Zero playoff wins after the drop.
